I am a huge fan of opposites attract stories and Scott and Devon are about as opposite as they come. Scott is a self-described geek who crunches numbers for a living. Devon... well, I can't say what Devon does without giving the story away and I won't do that. But I will say that Devon is as far from being geeky as one can get. He's got that HOT bad boy vibe with tattoos and leather while Scott has OCD and wears a suit to work every day. Scott is insecure while Devon exudes confidence. Somehow their relationship works.
Scott's insecurities are at times heartbreaking to watch and I found myself thinking "Speak up already! Ask questions!" but then I realized that had he done so, it would not be Scott and the story would not have worked out as well as it did. And it definitely did work.
It takes a lot for me to give any story 5 stars. I'd give this one more if I could. I loved it that much. This is my fave of the Love Is Always Write event so far.
My first by this author but it definitely will not be my last.

First, I will say that I live in the deep south... born and raised. Second, I will say that the only way you would ever hear a person down here speak the way that Peter did in this story is if they are pulling your leg.... or.... if they are getting paid to look like a hick in a reality show (betcha know which one I'm referring to). Seriously. Sure, we've been known to do that when certain folks make some stupid, stereotypical southern comment. We do it to play into it. Do we really talk like that? Hell no. I've lived in the south for 45 years and have never, EVER known of anyone to talk like this (even in the backwoods). It was horrible. The goofy sayings. It doesn't happen. Again, it's not real. I have always had an issue with southern-speak in books but I can honestly say that I have never read anything like this one before. It's like you need a redneck interpreter in order to know what the hell Peter and his cousins are saying. And I live in the south!
Here's what bugs me the most...... the story could have been good. I fell in love with Hinata right off. He's the child of a very traditional, overbearing Japanese woman. This woman pushes him to the point of him being willing to be ousted from the family later just so he can have a semblance of a normal life. I would have liked Peter had his dialogue and vocabulary not been ridiculous. The story has a slow build-up. I liked all of that. I actually liked all of the story with the exception of what I have already ranted about. I love opposites attract stories. Peter and Hinata are definite opposites. They see each other one time in high school and there is an instant connection that neither is able to act on. The rest of the story spans over a period of a couple of years until they finally meet again. While I felt that that meeting was a tad rushed, I did still enjoy it. But I can't get past feeling like I was reading an m/m version of Beverly Hillbillies.
I know this was a free story and I appreciate the author taking the time to write it and for including it with the others. I could have just marked this as read and been done with it. But I couldn't let this one go. Had Hinata's story been written a little differently, I would have seriously thought the entire story was meant to be a joke....more

It didn't hurt the story as a whole but it did make me drop my rating from 5 stars to 4 as I would have loved to have seen a bit more in regards to the main characters during that time.

Cal was downright rude from the initial meeting to practically the end. He makes it pretty clear that he's not interested but Jordan still pushes. It was almost stalkerish in my opinion. I thought Winston and Mrs. Miller were funny at the beginning but that wore off as the story went on. I think I would like to see this as a full-length story as I feel like it was building to something with Cal that never quite came to fruition.
Overall a nice story but I would have liked to have seen more in regards to Cal's background and why he was as skittish and as obnoxious nervous as he was. Also, Thomas. It is mentioned that Jordan is a single dad but that's about it.

I think tattoos are hot on the right guy. And I'm a sucker for stories with kids in them. This had all three. The characters were likable. The story was written well. The author threw in an epilogue so there were no unanswered questions. I hate when books (or short stories) end right when I feel that they are getting started. Thankfully this one was not the case. Everything was wrapped up nicely.
First off, this would have gotten an extra star for the picture alone. Whoever picked that particular photo should get as much credit as the 4.5 Stars
First off, this would have gotten an extra star for the picture alone. Whoever picked that particular photo should get as much credit as the author who wrote Daren to match the description exactly as the picture. I've read tons of books but I've never read one where a photo matched the character as well as this one. Oh, and he's hot!
This was an amazing story. It was much longer than all of the other stories that I have read in the Love Is Always Write event. This was more novel length and I am thankful for that because the characters were allowed to develop over time. Daren is attacked in the bathroom of a gay bar. Sebastian notices him walk in and is instantly attracted to him but he doesn't see Daren again until he finds him beat up on the floor of the bathroom. Saying Daren was beat up is a major understatement. His injuries are so severe that he should have died. Sebastian tries to call for help but Daren is adamant that he not do so because it could get him killed. What follows is Sebastian caring for Daren over a period of months. It takes awhile for Daren's story to come out but when it does it's a big one. Sebastian has to not only nurse Daren back to health but find away to keep him safe from those to wish to do him harm... or worse.
I really enjoyed this. There are so many details thrown in in regards to the care that Sebastian gives Daren but I never felt like it was too much. Those details made the story seem so much more real. It wasn't all flowers and roses. Sebastian is gay but Daren is not. So to see them work toward not only Daren's healing but his feelings for Sebastian as well was simply a pleasure to watch.
While the details aren't displayed graphically in regards to what Daren went through during the attack, you know. Everything is there for you to see without the author shoving those particular graphic and disturbing details at the reader. I for one am glad of that. I was able to see what happened without being forced to relive what he went through in minute detail. The way he was able to get over his pain and his fears because of Sebastian was written perfectly. Sebastian could have walked away at any time but he chose not to.
This isn't the typical m/m romance story. Sure, Sebastian and Daren are together for the most part but you wonder if they are together because they are forced to be or because they want to be. While I loved the ending (it was perfect) I (along with others on here) really wish that there would have been a quick epilogue thrown in so that we could see what happens next. A lot of questions were left unanswered and I seriously hope that the author will revisit this story someday. I would be one of the first people to read it.
Excellent story. I'm so glad I took a chance on an author I've never read before. I will definitely be reading more by her in the very near future....more

Pretty much everything about it with the exception of one thing. Ben and Tyler have been in a relationship for 5 years. A secret relationship because Tyler is seriously in the closet because of his job as a SWAT team captain. In all the 5 years Tyler never told Ben he loved him? Was he just a booty call for 5 years? It's obvious that Ben had told him but he never said the words back during ALL THAT TIME? How many people in the real world stay in a one-sided relationship like that? That was the only issue I had. Otherwise it was a great story....more

Kevin is a tax auditor sent back to his hometown for an audit... the town he left 12 years earlier and swore he'd never go back to. While trying to concentrate on his work he is interrupted repeatedly by the sound of construction equipment outside. He confronts the person making all the noise and it's Liam, a man he knew 12 years earlier but never gave any thought to.
After reading some of the other reviews I was under the impression that Kevin wouldn't remember Liam at all but that is not the case. When they knew each other previously, Liam was a 14 year old boy and Kevin was 4 years older. Liam had had a massive crush on Kevin but Kevin only saw him as an annoying teen. Kevin had made promises to Liam at that time that were really nothing more than a "okay, maybe we'll do this someday". Liam, because of his crush, took everything Kevin said to heart.
I like how they get together even if I thought Kevin was kind of a jerk in a couple of instances (view spoiler)[He stood Liam up for dinner..... even if was an accident, it still embarrassed Liam (hide spoiler)].

I love books where there is a substantial age difference between the two main characters. In this one, Glenn is 41 and Jason is 24. I also love stories that have the enemies-to-lovers theme. Granted, the enemies in this story were Glenn and Jason's dad (former business partners) but Glenn was Jason's enemy by association because he was very close to his father.
I'm not going into a long, drawn-out review of what this is about. But I will say that it was a very, very good story.
Jason's dad was a total bastard. In the beginning he was depicted as a fairly nice guy for the most part but that changed. He hated Glenn for stupid reasons and then went ballistic when he found out that Jason was involved with him. (view spoiler)[He disowned Jason and would not allow Jason to get a word in to try to explain himself. It was just "You're no longer my son. Get out." He not only disowned him but kicked him out of the company that he..... Jason ..... helped make successful. Popping in 10 minutes before Jason was to walk down the aisle to marry Glenn was kind of lame on his part but the ending would not have worked otherwise. (hide spoiler)]

Whit meets Zack who is a new member of his role-playing game. Whit is shy. Zack is not. Whit is unable to even speak to Zack unless it is part of the game and then it's his character doing the talking. What is so funny about this story is Whit's inner dialogue. I found myself laughing out loud many times while Whit was trying to come up with something witty to say to Zack without looking stupid.
This totally had me cracking up. I just discovered this author today and I have already breezed through everything he's written that is listed on here. He is definitely a new fave. ...more
