DEFINITION

News item text is a text which informs readers about events of the day. The events are
considered newsworthy or important.

PURPOSE

The purpose of news item text is to inform the readers about newsworthy events of the day.
 GENERIC STRUCTURE

Main event/newsworthy event (Kejadian inti) : menjelaskan ringkasan berita yang akan dijelaskan.
Background event/elaboration (latar belakang peristiwa) : menceritakan secara rinci mengenai latar
belakang kejadian tersebut. Detail yang harus kamu cantumkan di bagian ini adalah pelaku, lokasi,
waktu kejadian, pihak-pihak lain yang terlibat, dan latar belakang terjadinya kejadian.

LANGUAGE FEATURES
1.) Menggunakan Action Verb.
Action verbs adalah kata kerja yang menunjukkan aksi (action) yang dilakukan oleh Subjek dan terlihat
oleh orang lain. Contoh action verbs, antara lain study, play, run, eat, sleep, dan masih banyak lagi.
Action verbs bisa disebut juga dengan dynamic verbs. Pada news item text, kita akan sering
menggunakan action verbs, misalnya pada kalimat ini:
Ginting and Kevin are playing badminton in Tokyo Olympics 2020.
(Ginting dan Kevin sedang bertanding badminton pada Olimpiade Tokyo 2020).
2.) Menggunakan Saying Verbs
Saying verbs adalah kata kerja yang identik terjadi saat percakapan (saying). Biasanya, saying verbs
akan mencantumkan hasil percakapan antara wartawan atau si pembawa berita dengan narasumber.
Contohnya:
Head of the local search and rescue agency, Wayan Suyatna said that, “So far, 34 people have died
and 16 are still being searched”.
3.) Past Tense (Simple Past, Past Continuous, Past Perfect.

particularly dry weather, and in recent days sent toxic smog floating over Malaysia and
triggered a diplomatic row.
The number of "hotspots" -- areas of intense heat detected by satellite which indicate
a high chance of fire -- jumped sharply in Indonesia on Wednesday, according to the
Singapore-based ASEAN Specialised Meteorological Centre. There were 1,619 hotspots
detected on the Indonesian part of Kalimantan and Sumatra up from 861 a day earlier,
according to a tally from the centre, which monitors forest fires and smog outbreaks.
Kiki Taufik, a forests campaigner with Greenpeace in Indonesia, told AFP there has been
little rain in the past fortnight, particularly on Kalimantan which saw the sharpest increase
in hotspots.

The skytrain, or automated people-mover system (APMS), at SoekarnoHatta International
Airport is ready for operation on Sunday, with tests showing that the train has a capacity of 175

visited the Ministry of Communications and Information related to the blocking of Tik Tok,
Wednesday (4/7/2018) afternoon. In a meeting with the Minister of Communication and
Informatics, it fulfilled the commitment to clean and apply negative content filtering.
Kelly Chang expressed his company's willingness to comply with the existing regulations in
Indonesia. In fact, he insisted at this time has prepared 20 people to do filtering negative content.

respect the culture in Indonesia. There will be a joint program to create children's content with
NGOs and other stakeholders," he explained.
Kelly ensures that his party will make Tik Tok a better platform by increasing relationships with

Indonesia has a significant deficit in hospital beds, medical staff and intensive care facilities as
health experts warn that it is primed to become a new epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic,
according to data reviewed by Reuters.
Health experts say Indonesia faces a surge in coronavirus cases after a slow government
response masked the scale of the outbreak in the world’s fourth most populous country.
Indonesia has recorded 686 cases but the data is seen as understating the scale of infections
because of a low rate of testing and a high mortality rate. Indonesia has reported 55 deaths, the
highest in Southeast Asia.
A study by the London-based Centre for Mathematical Modelling of Infectious Diseases released
on Monday estimates that as few as 2% of Indonesia's coronavirus infections have been reported.
That would bring the true number to as many as 34,300, which is more than Iran.
Other modelers are projecting that cases could rise to as many as 5 million in the capital,
Jakarta, by the end of April under a worst-case scenario.
"We have lost control, it has already spread everywhere," Ascobat Gani, a public health
economist told Reuters. "Maybe we will follow Wuhan or Italy. I think we are in the range of that".
The government says the impact of the virus will not be that severe.
