The Iron (Japanese: ブロムヘキシン Bromhexine) is a type of vitamin introduced in Generation I. It increases the Defense of a Pokémon.

At Join Avenue's Market, Iron can be bought in dozens at $99960 each, which equates to $8330 per bottle.
Effect
Generation I to II
When used from the Bag on a Pokémon, adds 2560 Defense Stat Experience to the target Pokémon per use, until it has 25600 Defense Stat Experience. In Generation II, it also increases the Pokémon's friendship a little.
The Iron is consumed upon use and cannot be used in battle.
Generation III to VII
When used from the Bag on a Pokémon, adds 10 Defense EVs to the target Pokémon per use, until it has 100 Defense EVs. It also increases the Pokémon's friendship a little.
The Iron is consumed upon use and cannot be used in battle.
Generation VIII onward
Iron can now be used even on a Pokémon that has 100 Defense EVs or more, allowing the Defense EVs to be raised to the single-stat cap of 252 or the total cap of 510 this way.

Effect
A consumable item that raises the Defense of Pokémon that ingests it by 3 and restores 5 Belly for it.
If thrown, it will grant the same effect as if it was consumed by the Pokémon it hits (it cannot be caught); if it is sticky, it will also deal 2 damage. Iron can be blended into a drink at Spinda's Juice Bar, although it has no special effects.
