These maps show the geology of the UK. At left is an 1815 map by William Smith, who meticulously documented England’s geology and compiled the first geological map ever produced at such a scale. At right is a somewhat more recent map (I believe it’s from Ramsay’s Physical Geology and Geography of Great Britain, 5th ed., 1878) that’s easier to read.
