New Design Revealed for 2 World Trade Center in Financial District, Manhattan

A new redesign has been revealed for 2 World Trade Center, the final supertall component of the 16-acre World Trade Center complex in Manhattan’s Financial District. Designed by Norman Foster of Foster + Partners and developed by Silverstein Properties, the skyscraper is now slated to stand 62 stories and 1,230 feet tall, down from the 80-story, 1,348-foot-tall scope of the previous iteration. The building will yield 2.8 million square feet of office space and rise from a full-block property bounded by Vesey Street to the north, Fulton Street to the south, Church Street to the east, and Greenwich Street to the west.

Construction Underway at 22 Skillman Street in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn

Foundations are underway at 22 Skillman Street, the site of an eight-story residential building in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. Designed by Daniel Condatore of Mode Architects and developed by Zelig Weiss of Riverside Developers USA, the 70-foot-tall structure will span 115,580 square feet and yield 83 condominium units with an average scope of 1,392 square feet. The development will also include a cellar level and 42 enclosed parking spaces. The through-lot property is located between Skillman Street to the east and Franklin Avenue to the west.

1448 Third Avenue Reaches Street Level on Manhattan’s Upper East Side

Construction is about to go vertical at 1448 Third Avenue, the site of a 39-story mixed-use tower in the Yorkville section of Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Designed by CetraRuddy Architecture and developed by Douglaston Development, the 478-foot-tall structure will span 287,632 square feet and yield 125 condominium units with an average scope of 1,804 square feet. The building will also contain 40,864 square feet of commercial space, 21,224 square feet of community facility space, a cellar level, and a 20-foot-long rear yard. The property is alternately addressed as 170 East 82nd Street and located at the corner of Third Avenue and East 82nd Street.

Linden Grove Senior Residences Wraps Up Construction at 223 Linden Street in Bushwick, Brooklyn

Construction is wrapping up on the Linden Grove Senior Residences, a 13-story modular residential building at 223 Linden Street in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Designed and developed in a collaboration between Blue Sea Development Company and Gilbane Development Company, the structure yields 153 affordable units in studio- to one-bedroom layouts for qualifying low-income and formerly homeless senior citizens. The property is situated near the corner of Linden Street and Wilson Avenue.

Demolition Underway for Two New Condominium Developments in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village

YIMBY recently photographed two sites in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village that will soon give rise to new residential buildings. The properties are both located at the northern end of the neighborhood to the west of Union Square.

New York Historical Expansion Tops Out at 170 Central Park West on Manhattan’s Upper West Side

Construction topped out on April 22 on the Tang Wing for American Democracy, a four-story expansion of the New York Historical at 170 Central Park West on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. Designed by Robert A. M. Stern Architects, the 70,000-square-foot addition will yield new gallery spaces, classrooms, an outdoor courtyard, and a rooftop garden. The wing will house an expanded program for the Academy for American Democracy and also serve as the new home for the American LGBTQ+ Museum. It will also contain a compact storage facility for the Patricia D. Klingenstein Library collection. Turner Construction is the general contractor for the project, which is located on the southwest corner of the property along West 76th Street.

New Residential Projects Progressing Across Williamsburg, Brooklyn

YIMBY photographed five low-rise residential construction projects currently underway in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, which is continuing its boom of new housing developments. The projects include ground-up new construction, a vertical expansion, and the conversion of a former theater. Two of the developments are located within walking distance of the Bedford Avenue commercial corridor, while the final three are all taking shape along South 6th Street, just south of the Williamsburg Bridge.

Redesigned Delacorte Theater Nears Completion in Central Park, Manhattan

Construction is nearing completion on the Delacorte Theater, a 63-year-old outdoor theater in Central Park. Designed by Ennead Architects for the Public Theater, in partnership with the Central Park Conservancy, NYC Parks, and the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, the $80 million project is the first major rehabilitation to the 1,800-seat venue since 1999 and includes numerous aesthetic, safety, and accessibility enhancements. The theater is located next to Turtle Pond at the southern end of the Great Lawn, directly north of Belvedere Castle and east of Shakespeare Garden.

New Residential Projects Completed and Forthcoming in Sunnyside and Woodside, Queens

Following the explosion of development in Long Island City, the adjacent Queens neighborhoods of Sunnyside and Woodside are beginning to follow suit with a wave of new residential projects over the last several years. YIMBY captured two projects that were recently finished, one that is progressing toward completion, and one that is preparing for construction. These buildings are part of a boom in development along Queens Boulevard and around the elevated 52nd Street subway station over Roosevelt Avenue, which is served by the 7 train.

Renderings Revealed for 441-Unit Tower at 48-54 Branford Place in Newark, New Jersey

New renderings have been revealed for 48-54 Branford Place, a 32-story residential tower in Newark, New Jersey. Designed by the Derosa Group for Branford Studios LLC, the 347-foot-tall structure will yield 441 units and ground-floor retail space. The Newark Landmarks Commission recently approved the development plan for the nearly half-acre L-shaped property, which is located between Washington and Halsey Streets.
