Screen visually shaking when editing tables in powerPoint and using windows magnifier 8
Hi all, I am asking this on behalf of my wife. She uses nvda with windows magnifier on her work laptop that is still running windows 10. They are using Powerpoint 2013. She has to look at excel sheets and correct tables on powerPoint slides. When she navigates to the table using the mouse and clicks and tries to edit the numbers in the table, the screen visually shakes and nvda hangs. There is no speech in powerpoint but there is speech in excel. She is using nvda 2024.4. Has anyone experienced anything like this? Pranav

Arabic voice dictionary question. 2
Hi, Hope you guys are doing well. Arabs on this group, do any of you have a voice dictionary that you can send to me via email off list? I have acapela and tiflotecnia voices, but I'm not happy with how many words are being mispronounced. So do any of you have like a custom voice dictionary file or something, and how would I go about replacing it for acapela synth? Best regards, Muhammad.

NVDA & Windows shortcut keys do not work until NVDA is restarted. 12
Thanks Brian. I shall bring up the issue here with the required fresh subject line. I use NVDA 2024.4 in Windows 11 Pro Version 23h2 OS Build 22631.4391 * Issue: When I turn on my laptop, NVDA shortcut keys does not work. Even the NVDA+N does not open the menu. Neither any windows shortcut function, except NVDA+Alt+N. Other shortcut keys work only after restarting NVDA by pressing Ctrl+Alt+N. This happens every time/day the machine is started/restarted. Previously I updated NVDA through the auto update/downloader. To avoid this issue, I tried uninstalling NVDA completely, even deleting the NVDA folder in Appdata/roming too and restarted the PC. Downloaded a new copy of version 2024.4 and did a fresh complete installation. But the problem persists. How can I avoid this issue please? If I have to restart my machine with all add-ons disabled, should I disable all of them in the Add-on store or is there any other simple way? Because selecting the option to disable add-ons in the NVDA menu enables the Add-ons when the PC is restarted. * Additional info: Please note, I used to shutdown my PC after work every time, and even a complete restart did not solve the issue. Have tried the basic repairs too, with no success. Connected to my personal Wi-Fi network with usual settings. Laptop with 32Gb RAM & 1Tb SSD I7 processor. NVDA 2024.4 in Windows 11 Pro Version 23h2 OS Build 22631.4391 Appreciate your suggestions please. Unwanted progress bars speaking 4
I recently got a new computer. The problem I'm having is with Station Playlist Studio. All of a sudden NVDA is beeping and speaking some progress bar from somewhere while playing tracks. This has never happened before so I'm wondering if it is something to do with the latest NVDA. I've always copied my User Config folder from the old computer to this new one so all my add ons and user profiles are the same. Just wondering why this is suddenly happening as it has never happened before and I asked a sighted person to look at the screen while I had a track playing and they couldn't see any progress bars at all--only the playing time and remaining time which are always displayed. Hope someone can give me some idea how to stop this short of setting up a user config just for Station Playlist itself as I've never had to do this before. Thanks.

Getting license for tiflotecnia voices? 5
Hello all, have recently been using the Tiflotecnia add-on, and have been very impressed with the voices quality, and the fact that it still works with window seven machines. Unfortunately, when it comes to purchasing a license, so that I can continue to use it, whoever made this add-on, seems to have omitted to include any details of where this purchase can be made, which to say the least, is rather unhelpful. So if anyone happens to know where the required license can be purchased, it would be rather nice to know please, as that information doesn’t even seem to be in the documentation for this add-on. Simon, the March Merman.

Subject: Exploring Accessibility Options for DaVinci Resolve with NVDA 2
Hello NVDA community, My name is Charlie, and I’m a blind radio presenter from South Africa. I’m reaching out to see if anyone here has experience or information regarding using DaVinci Resolve with NVDA. I’m eager to learn video editing and incorporate DaVinci Resolve into my workflow, but the software is not fully accessible with NVDA, which presents some significant challenges. I’ve seen that some users make DaVinci Resolve look quite accessible, and I’m wondering if there are any NVDA add-ons, JAWS scripts, or alternative tools that might enhance accessibility within the program. If anyone has insights, resources, or advice on making DaVinci Resolve more manageable for blind users, I’d be incredibly grateful. Thank you all for any assistance or guidance you can provide. Best regards, Charlie Blind Radio Presenter, South Africa

addons and speech history 2
Hi List, I am currently running windows 10 pro 2022 os 19045.5011 with nvda 2024.24. I really haven’t done much with addons in the last couple years. Can I pick and install addons from within the nvda menu or do I have to go to the addons store to do this. Rod Hudson mentioned an addon call speech history. I did not see it when browsing the user guide. Is this also found at the addon store? Thanks, Monte Single

Windows App Essentials 24.11/24.08.4, heads up notice on gradual end of Windows 10 support from the add-on 5 #addonrelease
Hi all, Windows App Essentials 24.11 and 24.08.4 are now available. Both releases include support for upcoming NVDA 2024.4 and localization updates, and 24.11 includes a tweak to handling clipboard history item announcement fix. You can obtain 24.11 from the add-on store, and since 24.08.4 is meant for enterprises running Windows 11 2022 Update (build 22621), you must download it from here: https://github.com/josephsl/wintenApps/releases/download/24.11/wintenApps-24.08.4.nvda-addon IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR Windows 10 USERS: a while ago, I announced that Windows App Essentials add-on will drop support for Windows 10 and added that it will be done gradually. As end of support for Windows 10 from Microsoft nears (October 14, 2025), I am about to kickoff end of support for Windows 10. This process begins in January 2025 with add-on development releases dropping Windows 10 support, culminating in an add-on stable release later in 2025 that will require Windows 11. To give a preview of this process, all add-on development builds to be released in November 2024 will NOT support Windows 10. I will resume Windows 10support from development builds in December 2024 but only for a short time – from January 2025, add-on development builds will permanently drop support for Windows 10. If you are indeed running Windows 10 and installed add-on development builds (version of the form yyyymmdd.0.0), I will provide instructions on switching to the stable release later this year. In short, unless you do need Windows 10 for several reasons, I advise that we begin migrating to Windows 11, hopefully majority of us doing so before October 2025. You can of course elect to pay Microsoft for security updates past October 2025 – Microsoft has not announced cost for Windows 10 extended security updates (ESU’s) program yet. In the meantime, enjoy the new add-on release. Cheers, Joseph

Locked Off-Topic: What happened to the blindtech mailing list? 3
I've been out of the loop for a while, but the blindtech list was often very helpful to me when I was trying to find a tech solution that didn't have anything to do with an interaction between NVDA and another program, but it seems to have either changed address or been disbanded altogether and I am more than a little distressed by this, as I had an issue I was hoping to have addressed by someone there and don't know of any other similar group on another platform which I could take that query to.

Applications Key on Misspelled Words No Longer Brings-up Correction Options in the New Outlook 9
Hi! I am using NVDA 2023.1 under Windows 10 together with the “new” Outlook 2016. Starting with this updated “new” Outlook, if I type the applications key (shift+F10) on a misspelled word within the message body, it no longer brings-up a context menu with spelling correction options. Before the update to the “new” Outlook, it did. Is there a solution to this? Thanks, Richard

News – NV Access - NVDA 2024.4 Released #nvaccessnewsfeed
NVDA 2024.4 Released By Sascha Cowley NV Access is pleased to announce that version 2024.4 of NVDA, the free screen reader for Microsoft Windows, is now available for download. We encourage all users to upgrade to this version. Highlights This release includes a number of improvements in Microsoft Office, braille, and document formatting. In Word or Excel, it is now possible to double-press the comment gesture to read the comment or note in a browsable dialog. You can now use the review cursor selection command to select text in PowerPoint. NVDA also no longer brailles garbage characters when showing row or column header text in tables in Word when using the object model. NVDA can now be configured to report font attributes in speech and braille separately. A new setting has been added to configure the timeout to perform a multiple press gesture, such as the report time/date command. You can now configure how NVDA shows text formatting in braille, and set NVDA to show the start of paragraphs in braille. NVDA can now speak the character at the cursor when performing a braille cursor routing action. Cursor routing reliability has been improved, and support for routing keys in PowerPoint has been added. All lines of cells will now be used when using a multi-line braille display via HID braille. NVDA is no longer unstable after restarting NVDA during an automatic Braille Bluetooth scan. The minimum required version of Poedit that works with NVDA is now version 3.5. eSpeak NG has been updated, adding support for the Faroese and Xextan languages. LibLouis has been updated, adding new Braille tables for Thai and Greek international braille with single-cell accented letters. There have also been a number of fixes, including to mouse tracking in Firefox, and the on-demand speech mode. Please note, after updating any software, it is a good idea to restart the computer. Restart by going to the Shutdown dialog, selecting “restart” and pressing ENTER. Updating software can change files which are in use. This can lead to instability and strange behaviour which is resolved by rebooting. This is the first thing to try if you do notice anything odd after updating. We also have a range of training material in the NV Access Shop to help you increase your skills with NVDA. Start with the popular Basic Training for NVDA in electronic text, audio and braille. math symbols in MS Powerpoint not recognized 15
Hey all, since I receive a lot of PowerPoint slides from the university, I'm right now coming across a problem: The mathematical symbols are not recognized as they should, NVDA just reads things like Letter 1d463, letter 1d435 etc. and my Braille display also doesn't show characters which would make any sense. This happens even if it's just letters that had to be shown. I have MathCAT installed, set it to LaTeX and on the web this works just fine - but not in PowerPoint. Do you have any ideas what to do here? Thanks in advance for any help. Best, Julian

Changing the behavior of how NVDA reads control types (usually at the last and that might be the default one). 23
Hey everyone: Is there any native way to change the default behave of how NVDA reads the controls? For instance, instead of hearing “Computer check box checked Alt+ m”, I’d like to hear “Check box checked Computer Alt+ m”. Any help would be highly appreciated! Thanks & regards: Snehashish.
