Powered staves are a class of magicweapons that typically possess a built-in magic spell that can be used regardless of the spellbook the player is using. The built-in spells give no base experience and grants the player 2 Magic experience per damage dealt.
They are typically charged with runes or coins to automatically fire magic projectiles. Unlike other Magic weapons, they cannot be used to autocast spells. In addition, they have an attack speed of 4, faster than other magic weapons, which have an attack speed of 5. The Tumeken's shadow, however, has an attack speed of 5.
There are two identical "Accurate" combat styles on powered staves. This is because prior to an update on 21 February2019, the game did not store the combat styles of the previous weapon equipped, and would attempt to move to the same position where the style was located (ex. Having the Rapid style on a bow and switching to a spear would result in it being on the Swipe style).
This proved to be an inconvenience when switching between the powered staff and another weapon, which would often force the staff into the Longrange style due to it being on the same position as the Rapid style on ranged weapons, and forcing ranged weapons to the Accurate style if players switched back to the Accurate style on a powered staff. Forgetting to switch the styles back to Accurate on a powered staff would give Defence experience when a player, especially One-defence pures, did not wish to gain due to being on the Longrange style.
This was remedied in an update on 24 September2015 by giving powered staves an identical Accurate style to prevent it from switching the combat style for other weapons. However, this was made obsolete with the update that gave the game the ability to store active combat styles, and did not get removed.
