Centenary University Expands Education Degree Programs at Two New Sites
Courses beginning in September at the Florence M. Burd School in Newton and Warren County Technical High School in Washington, N.J.
Hackettstown, N.J., July 13, 2018—Centenary University will add two new professional development sites offering advanced education courses beginning in September. Certified teachers can now register to take classes at the Florence M. Burd School in Newton, which is part of the Andover Regional School District, and at Warren Technical High School in Washington, N.J.
Timothy J. Frederiks, Ed.D., chair of the Education & Mathematics Department, noted that many students begin their coursework at one professional development site, but choose to complete their degrees through a blended program that incorporates in-person and online learning. Once enrolled, education students can take in-person courses at Centenary’s Hackettstown campus, School of Professional Studies in Parsippany and at one of the University’s many professional development sites, located throughout northwestern New Jersey. The University has approximately 75 school districts in its network, with about 10 active in any given semester, according to Frederiks. Professional development site courses generally begin at 4 p.m., making them convenient for teachers’ schedules.
“We have partnerships with many school districts, and in fact, more than 60 principals, superintendents, directors or supervisors—including most of the principals in Warren County—have, or are currently earning, a Centenary University degree,” said Frederiks. “It’s a great professional network for our students, and helps tremendously with job placement.”
Centenary offers a variety of doctoral, graduate and certification programs for teachers, including a doctorate in educational leadership; master’s in educational leadership, instructional leadership, special education, educational practice (online) and reading with New Jersey reading specialist certification; and two graduate certification programs approved by the New Jersey Department of Education, supervisor licensure and teacher of students with disabilities.
