Talk:Thieving training
Wall safes[edit source]
Edited that wall safes needs thieving level 50 instead of 25 for training. Don't know why, but wall safes had "25+" as a listed level requirement in the training section 188.238.202.144
Heist[edit source]
I Think the guide should have a section on heist, as it is easily AFKable if you boost, and can easily surpass the exp gained in any other method, albeit in bonus exp (if you boost). WoHenRe (talk) 22:35, April 27, 2014 (UTC)

More information needed[edit source]
This page needs more information added:
- XP rate for monkey knife fighters at level 70 to confirm if they are better than coshing volunteers (work out when they become better if they are not better at level 70).
- XP rates for pp at level 90 and 91.
- XP rates for dwarf traders at level 90.
- XP rates for elves <99.
- Information about playing minigames for bonus xp (if any are worth doing).

Also needs information about crystal mask. At 75 theiving with crystal mask exo outfit and ardy cape 3 master farmers are no fail.
(Iron Archer (talk) 15:41, September 7, 2015 (UTC))
- Changed methods to suggest dwarf traders as crystal mask greatly increases their XP rate. Methods <90 that can be combined with crystal mask may still need altering.

Crystal mask[edit source]
Added information about using crystal mask & light form. With level 99 Thieving:
- Traders (using crystal mask but not light form) - 70,675/15m = 282,700
- Traders (using crystal mask & light form) - 223,713/30m = 447,426
- Traders (using crystal mask & light form, exoskeleton, abyssal lurker, ardy cloak, legendary aura and black ibis) - 405504/30m = 811,008
- Elves (using crystal mask & light form) - 173,564/25m 15s = 412,429 (VoS Meilyr & Trahaearn, thieved from best four clans + part way through 5th when 1st clan could be thieved again)
- Elves (using crystal mask & light form, exoskeleton, abyssal lurker, ardy cloak, legendary aura and black ibis) - 161,539/24m = 403,147 (VoS Hefin & Amlodd, thieved from best four clans + part way through 5th when 1st clan could be thieved again)

Alternate method for lv 15-41[edit source]
Perhaps add a section for levels 15-41 for players who dont' want to hop servers constantly to find one that hasn't already been opened? The actual EXP rate is much lower due to the number of players attempting to use the wiki's ONLY recommended way of getting from level 15 to level 41, which is a very large gap from the eyes of a low-leveled player. Alternate methods usable when doors aren't an option would be much appreciated.
Fevix (talk) 07:17, November 3, 2015 (UTC)
- Hey, there's no alternative method here because there's nothing else that's very good for training at these levels (as far as I know). However if the thieve's guild is that crowded we may need to mention another method anyway. You could continue training at baker's stalls, but that's a lot slower than opening the doors. Apart from that, you can start pickpocketting female H.A.M. Members at level 15 and male members at 20 or warriors at level 25. You can also start blackjacking outside the thieve's guild at level 30 but you need to have completed The Feud quest. If you try any of these and they turn out to be a good alternative for training, let us know and we can include them in the guide :)

- I wouldn't be the best researcher for this kind of stuff. I'm a more casual player, I'm not one to write down findings. That and I'm already at about 35 Thieving, so, unlike someone who's at 15, my chances of successfully pickpocketing H.A.M. members are higher, so I couldn't possibly give an accurate XP/hr for a level 15 pickpocketing those.. Fevix (talk) 14:18, November 11, 2015 (UTC)
- That's fair enough. I'm already past these levels myself as well so I can't test anything for them either, but I hope the rest of your training goes smoothly :)

Bakery stalls[edit source]
After an item has been stolen from the stall, the player must wait 3 seconds in order for the shop stall's stock to replenish before they can steal from the stall again.
I think this is wrong. I'm doing the bakery stall in Taverly, and the wait time is less than a second. Benjaminikuta (talk) 05:04, September 4, 2016 (UTC)
- You are right, I updated this page and Bakery Stall to remove the mention of 3 seconds. Thank you :)

Coshing Volunteers and Pyramid Plunder[edit source]
It states:
Players who wish to gain experience quickly but are unable to access Ape Atoll should continue training at coshing volunteers until level 81 Thieving. Stealing from coshing volunteers can give up to around 180,000 experience an hour with level 81 Thieving. Okay, but whats the point of giving me the xp rate AT lvl 81 if thats what i am going to? And by reading another post below \|/ someone disproved this xp rate as being possible
At level 81 Thieving players can start training at Pyramid Plunder to gain around 157,500 experience an hour, slightly more than that which can be gained from training at coshing volunteers. But wait didnt you just say coshing volunteers were 180,000 / hr? Am I bad at math? why was this not fixed sooner...

- Corrected the xp rate for coshing volunteers - it should have been 157k/hr.

Potential method for 78-90[edit source]
I just saw a post on reddit ( https://www.reddit.com/r/runescape/comments/5rha59/an_alternative_method_for_78whatever_thieving/?ref=share&ref_source=link ) and tried it out. With 6% from clan ava, Addy cloak 4 and Priff camouflage set, I get 350k xp and 200k gp per hour at lvl 85. Maybe it could be added to this guide? --Alphachan (talk) 13:31, February 2, 2017 (UTC)
- Hey thanks for pointing out this method. This is a little late, but I finally had time to try out the method and add it to the guide. I think it should be possible from level 65, when you unlock the ability to pickpocket the thugs. Seems like there might be something else to do before/instead of the thugs at earlier levels - I noticed people commenting about ardy knights on that video - but its not possible for me to test at those levels so I just put it down for 65-90 for now. Thanks again,
Isobel

Gnomes at ~75?[edit source]
Does anyone know how Gnomes are at around level 75 with exoskeleton, crystal mask, light form, abyssal stealth etc? I tried Menaphites but they seemed quite expensive in terms of consumables. I then tried Gnomes for a bit and the xp seems to be similar, but they are much more profitable. I don't have the skill to math it out though so I was wondering what other people's thoughts were.173.183.64.187 07:15, March 7, 2017 (UTC)
Pyramid Plunder Removal[edit source]
Do we want to keep Pyramid Plunder listed on this page as a method from levels 71/81-90? There are some who might want to use it as a training method until they get the Black Ibis outfit from it. Especially for people who do not have access to Seren Spells/Prayes. Also, in the level 90-96 section, it says the players should only train at dwarf traders if they are able to use Seren Spells/Prayer, but there's no alternative listed. Looking at old versions, it used to list Monkey knife fighers and Pyramid Plunder as alternatives for that section. --F-Lambda (talk) 05:42, April 25, 2017 (UTC)
- Hey, there's currently 3 methods for 71/81-90 ish: menaphite thugs, monkey knife fighters and dorgesh-kaan chests. Only menaphite thugs require seren spells, and even the two alternatives are a much better experience rate than pp. Since the outfit is so rare, I don't believe that getting it is an efficient use of time unless you are going for over level 99 training. I know that some people might want to do pyramid plunder anyway; the pyramid plunder page contains experience rates and strategy information that they would need, but I no longer its a good enough method to be included on this page. Also elf workers are listed as an alternative for dwarf traders. Hope this helps,

More detail on how to loot coshing volunteers 3 times?[edit source]
It seems essentially impossible to loot coshing volunteers three times without either (1) mouse keys or (2) adjusting the window so that right-click-looting can be done without moving the mouse. This seems important enough to explicitly spell out in the article. I could be wrong on either of those points. What do you think? 5512tyuiop (talk) 17:48, June 28, 2017 (UTC)
- I've been able to loot three times consistently without doing either of those things. Just quick right clicking and moving the mouse. It takes some practice but when you've been doing it for so long you get into a routine jayden 17:50, June 28, 2017 (UTC)
Alternative training for 80+ Thieving[edit source]
For people like me who can't stand Thieving Menaphites or Monkey Knife Fighters, I find Paladins to be a very good method of training. I get around 270k xp an hour with a setup of Ardy cloak 3, the basic thieving elite set (I don't have access to master camo yet), Trah exo set with the gloves of silence passive available, the lowest tier thieving aura, and using light form and crystal mask. I go to the 1st floor (2nd floor for those that don't follow British flooring system) of Ardougne castle and enter one of the rooms that has a chest in them and thieve from the paladins in there, as there is a very high chance one of the paladins will put themselves in a position to be trapped by the chest. Sometimes they do phase through the chest, though.

Elven Clans "Get out of Jail Free" Item Comment[edit source]
There was once an expendable item that allowed you to reset a clan alert and continue pickpocketing. Has it been discontinued, or is it simply hard to find here? THAT 1 CH00B (talk) 17:57, 28 June 2019 (UTC)

Shifting Tombs as an Alternative for Thieves' Guild Doors in midlevelling[edit source]
I feel like the thieves guild doors become somewhat slow, somewhere between 55-57. Thanks to this guide, they've also become pretty contested, since they're server-wide opened instead of account-wide. Shifting Tombs, at tier 1, if you set it to only Thieving as primary (and any as secondary), on a complete run, it yields about 5k xp per run. If we consider that someone can do it flawlessly a run at every 5 minutes, it is 60k XP/hr, while yielding the kinda useful Pantheon Aura fragments. Yes, it requires 50 on a lot of stuff, but isn't it worth it?
