Tomes of the Warlock is a quest in The First Necromancer quest series.

Official description[edit | edit source]

Learn more about Rasial from a series of tomes written by a previous student of his.

Overview[edit | edit source]

Talking to Death[edit | edit source]

Death in the City of Um

Engage in conversation with Death in the centre of City of Um. Death wishes for you to uncover the story of Duke Orcus, a Zarosian and former apprentice of Rasial, the First Necromancer. Owing to his distinctive beliefs, Death could not provide guidance for his soul, leaving only fragments of knowledge about him. Your next step involves seeking more information from Dr Nabanik.

Talking to Dr Nabanik[edit | edit source]

Make your way to the Kharid-et Dig Site where you can talk to Dr Nabanik regarding Duke Orcus. Through this conversation, you'll uncover the history of Orcus as a necromancer and cult leader. Following that, you'll receive the assignment to take a restored necromantic focus to Head of Research in the Exam Centre, gaining further insights.

In the Exam Centre[edit | edit source]

Talk to the Head of Research, Dr Engelbert, and present him with the restored necromantic focus. This interaction will unveil a significant revelation—the book is titled the Orconomicon, and it's part of a series authored by the same writer. These volumes have already been uncovered at various dig sites. Inquire about each book to gain insights into their locations:

Your next task involves recovering all of the books.

Visit Aubury's Rune Shop in Varrock, where Aubury will guide you to Wizard Borann at the Wizards' Tower. Speak with Borann on the ground floor[UK]1st floor[US], obtaining the damaged Book of Smoke. Borann will then direct you to the Wizards' Guild in Yanille to retrieve the Book of Blood. Once there, talk to Wizard Frumscone in the basement for the damaged Book of Blood.

The Book of Shadow[edit | edit source]

Journey to the Grand Library of Menaphos in Menaphos Imperial district. Talk to Kohnen the librarian, who will express dissatisfaction due to the book's darkness. As a result, Kohnen has concealed it downstairs on the sundial. Descend to the centre of the library and inspect the sundial to retrieve the damaged Book of Shadow.

Finishing up[edit | edit source]

Restore all of the books at an archaeologist's workbench, requiring a total of 120 ancient vis, 104 blood of Orcus, and 80 imperial steel. Next, talk to the Head of Research to hand in all the restored books.

He uncovers glyphs within the books, and a research project named Nom-Nom-Nom-Nom will emerge, offering you an option to delve into their hidden secrets outside the quest (the research project does not need to be completed to finish the quest). Following this, talk to Death to communicate your findings. It's now evident that Duke Orcus sought out Rasial, the First Necromancer for guidance; furthermore, you've learned that Rasial was once a mortal man and that his tomb might hold the key to stopping him.

Subsequently, talk to Ted at the Well of Souls. Ted will further decipher four passages inscribed in glyphs. These passages contain several incantations, now ready for your utilisation. With these steps completed, the quest concludes successfully.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Upon completion of the quest, the Adventurer's Log states: I tracked down a series of books written by Orcus, a necromancer from the 2nd Age. From them, I learned of some ancient necromancy secrets.
  • This quest and Alpha vs Omega, which was released on the same day, are the first quests (not including miniquests) to require any skill over 85.
  • Despite the fact that the quest takes place after Aftermath, the player still referred to Dr. Nabanik as Azzanadra on release. This was changed two weeks later, on 21 August 2023, where the player is now pointed to the correct Dr. Nabanik depending on quest completion.
