Wyrms are limbless monsters which most of them can be found in Gielinor.
When telling the story of the Tears of Guthix, the Guardian of Guthix Juna provides the only mention of these creatures: "The colossal Wyrms, of whom today's dragons are a pale reflection, turned all the sky to fire, while on the ground armies of foot soldiers, goblins and trolls and humans, filled the valleys and plains with blood".
Variants[edit | edit source]
Numerous variants of wyrms exist in both Gielinor and in other worlds. They are not all necessarily related, either.
- Fire-breathing, colossal Wyrms which went extinct during the God Wars, as mentioned by Juna.
- The deepest parts of the Shadow Realm hold the shadow leviathan, a wyrm described as being large enough to wrap around whole worlds.
- Vampyrium is home to the leechwyrm, which grows to enormous sizes and were dangerous threats to even the vampyres.
- There are at least five known types of wyrms on Gielinor.
- Desert strykewyrms
- Jungle strykewyrms
- Ice strykewyrms
- Lava strykewyrms
- The abyssal wyrm that resided in Botany Bay before it closed down
- Other wyrms
- Seizus
- Kyrvat
- Vermyx, Brood Mother, a desert wyrm corrupted by Amascut
- Vermyx's spawn, corrupted by Amascut
Players can also summon the desert wyrm summoning familiar and obtain the pets Freezy or Saul.
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- Wyrms, from the Old English word meaning "serpent", are legendary dragons in European mythology.
- Wyrms are possibly based on sandworms from Frank Herbert's novel Dune, backed up by the fact that they were hard to control, could decimate entire cities, and required highly skilled people to ride them.
- This also seems to be supported by Vermyx being stated to be from the Kharidian Desert.
