[edit]From Middle Dutch richten, from Old Dutch rihten, from Proto-Germanic *rihtijaną (“to right”), derived from *rehtaz (“right, straight”). Equivalent to recht (“straight”) + -en (“deadjectival”) and shows the effect of historical i-mutation.
