Explain the differences between a new and established patient.
NEW PATIENT.
According to Current Procedural Terminology anew patient is one who has not received any professional services from the physician or another physician of the same specialty who belongs to the same group practice within the past three years.
A new patient is one who is not registered as in patient or out patient within three years prior to visit.
A patient may be new to the physician but established with the hospital.
ESTABLISHED PATIENT.
According to Current Procedural Terminology an established patient has received professional services from the physician or another physician in the same group and the same specialty within the prior three years.
An established patient is one who is registered as in patient or out patient of the hospital within the three years prior to the vist.
In this the patient has longstanding relationship with the physician but the patient will be new to the hospital.
