Experience Details
Prepare to go on a culinary adventure in Kyoto and conquer the art of udon and tempura, a popular Japanese meal! Imagine thick udon noodles bathed in a delectable dashi stock, crowned with crisp tempura veggies or succulent shrimp. The broth blends with the flavors of soy sauce and mirin, making each slurp delicious.
But don't just admire it; make it! Under the expert guidance of Nariko, you'll dive into Japanese cuisine headfirst. Together, you'll roll up your sleeves and learn to craft lusciously thick udon noodles from scratch. You'll also master making tempura batter to sizzle up some crispy, golden delights and make a side dish to elevate your culinary skills even more!
We will use dashi (stock) sachet which is easy to use for udon soup. Also we will use tempura flour for tempura batter. Both dashi sachets and tempura flour are commonly used in a typical Japanese home. Learn the ropes of these essentials so you can recreate the dishes (and plenty more!) right in your own kitchen. But here's the best part: it's time to indulge after you've perfected your noodles and tempura! You'll relish the fruits of your labor as you savor your homemade meal.
Nariko, your culinary guide, brings a world of experience and passion to the table. Her love affair with cooking began in her mother's kitchen, taking her on a journey from Malaysia to India and New Zealand. Her joy lies in sharing recipes with friends and students worldwide. Teaching Japanese, she noticed the magic of combining language and cooking, leading her to dedicate herself to both. Nariko boasts an impressive culinary resume, from a patisserie course at Tsuji Culinary Institute to sushi training at the Tokyo Sushi Academy. She's even a certified decorative sushi instructor under the Japan Sushi Instructors Association (JSIA).
If you want more than a regular cooking class, here's a warm, homely experience in a local Kyoto residence. Get ready to create, savor, and embrace the rich flavors of Japanese cuisine.
