Maintain and support the current block schedule at James Monroe High School.
The Issue
By signing this petition, you support the current block schedule at James Monroe High School, and oppose the proposed eight period schedule. The four period block schedule has been in place for four years, and has finally led to achievement. James Monroe High School was named one of thirty high schools in West Virginia as a School of Success for the 2013-2014 school year.
The block schedule proves to be superior over an eight period schedule because:
- it allows more flexibility for students to obtain graduation requirements
- it provides more instructional time and less wasted time in between classes
- teachers have thirty minutes to plan per class for three classes, rather than six and a half minutes per class for seven classes
- it requires less textbooks, which means less spending
Our main concern is, why change when success has already been achieved with a block schedule?
