XENON Systems, a provider of high-performance computing systems in Melbourne, has been awarded a contract to supply Australia's national Commonwealth Science and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) with an updated Hierarchical Storage Manager (HSM) solution.

The new solution will replace CSIRO's existing HSM system, integrating cutting-edge technology to enhance the agency's data management capabilities.

Key components of the upgrade include Versity Scale Out Archive Manager (ScoutAM) HSM software, PowerEdge compute nodes and PowerSwitch networking from Dell Technologies, with integration services provided by XENON.

The XENON solution uses the open format Versity ScoutAM HSM software, which ensures backward compatibility with decades of existing research data.

This compatibility is essential for preserving the continuity of CSIRO's extensive scientific archives while modernising its storage infrastructure.

The new HSM will enhance CSIRO's ability to manage and utilise vast amounts of research data more efficiently.

The upgrade supports the agency's ongoing efforts in various fields of scientific research and innovation.

In March last year, XENON was picked to Pure Storage's FlashBlade unified fast file and object (UFFO) solution for the Australian Genome Research Facility, to speed up genomics sequencing work.
