It is common for brothers and sisters to play fight with each other when they are young.

But when one pair in China let their sibling rivalry get the better of them, it had horrific consequences for this 12-year-old girl.

Zhang Qin, from Liangping, was left with 68 pieces of shotgun shell embedded in her face after accidentally being shot by her brother.

The gun went off and Zhang was hit in the face, blinding her in one eye and peppering her face with little pieces of metal.

Zhang's father rushed her to several hospitals but they all refused to help, saying that removing the metal shots would be very risky.

Zhang has now been left with scarring on her face and has refused to go back to school.

Her father Zhang Kunhua said: 'My only hope is to have her old appearance back, and she could live independently'.

After the accident, her father, was jailed for a short time for holding illegal weapons. He has now been granted bail because of the family situation.
