I want to thank God for calling me at sixteen in Lafayette, Louisiana. Thank You for seeing me. You have caused me to walk in places where I didn’t think I deserved to walk. My life belongs to You.
Thanks to my grandparents, Alice and Sam, for raising me the best way they could, for living a life that was devoted to Christ, and for believing in me and praying for me. I’m living out the prayers you prayed.
To my husband, Cedric, who, from the time I said I do
has demonstrated consistent faithfulness to God. Thank you for walking with me throughout every project and task. Thank you for encouraging me and understanding my purpose. Thank you for not hindering me in doing what God has called me to do. I love you!
To my daughters, who encourage me to live a life surrendered to and devoted to God, I pray that you will see the importance of first and always obeying. I love you. I want honor Pastor Dennis Lockhart and Hillary Lockhart for creating a foundation of Christ in my life.
I want to thank Pastor Brandon Hollar, Mike McComb, and my professors at Life Christian Bible Institute for teaching and training me. Thank you, Pastor Brandon, for telling me that God will never ask me to do something that He has not equipped me to do.
Thanks to all the mentors and teachers I’ve had throughout my life—because of your obedience and faithfulness to God, I learned to be who God created me to be.
Last but not least, to my family and friends, thank you for standing by me and encouraging me. You have enriched my life tremendously.
Introduction
I’m excited to have this opportunity to write what God has shown me in His living and active Word. I’m also excited to share what He has demonstrated in my life circumstances, past experiences, and daily situations. God is my greatest counselor, my greatest encourager, and my heavenly Father. The reason that I’m alive with a sound mind and a victorious life is because of His great counsel and faithfulness.
In chapter 5 of the book of Mark, Jesus goes with a man named Jarius to see his sick little daughter. On His way, He is interrupted by a woman who touches the hem of His garment and is healed. The little girl dies before Jesus gets to her; the mourners are already present, mourning her loss. It is awesome that our Savior breaks all rules and destroys all impossibility in our lives. Then He took the child by the hand, and said to her, Talitha, cumi,
which is translated, " Little girl, I say to you, arise. — Mark 5:41 The girl got up and walked, alive.
This tells me something about us and God. It tells me that dead situations, things, and circumstances can visit us at any point. Our lives can turn for the worse in an instant because of our own choices or other people’s choices and the people or things that influence us. It tells me that there is nothing too hard for God to do or perform in our lives. There is nothing too difficult—not even death. Jesus Christ can step into our lives and declare life into our dead situations.
The vision of this book is to address the areas in our lives that cause us to live lifelessly. Doubtless, you will recognize some of these things, but there will be others you were not aware of. My prayer is that, as you read this book, the truth will expose the falsehoods in the areas that cause you to live lifelessly; that your heart that is open to God as you read His Word and revelations; that you will open and unlock the hidden, secret treasures that God has placed inside of you.
Woman Arise is a book that will walk with you through every aspect of your life: overcoming your past, having an intimate relationship with God, and walking into your purpose. Women were created to transform anything; an empty room becomes a home at the touch and imagination of a woman. It’s time for women to arise into their God-given identities. Many women are long overdue to truly operate in their full potential. This book will cause you to look within, to uproot the old, and to allow newness to spring forth. You will be encouraged, empowered, and challenged to go to a place God longs for you to be, a place where you know God, your identity, and your purpose. You were designed to be dynamic, great, and powerful in a time when the world needs you the most. Arise, woman, into your God-given position!
Woman Arise is divided into three sections: Arising Out of Your Past, Arising Into intimacy with God, and Arising Into Your Purpose. As you take this journey to an intimate place with God, think about where God has brought you from and where He is taking you. If you are not sure where He is taking you, then let me say that it is definitely a greater place than you can even imagine. All it takes is for us to connect with the heart of God concerning our lives. It is so easy to get comfortable where we are. I hope that as you read this book, you will be challenged to discover that God has so much more for you. There is always more to God. Be willing to step into a new place and to move into more depth in His Word.
Throughout Woman Arise you’ll hear encouraging and empowering words that you can mediate on throughout each day titled Arise and Be Encouraged. I have added discussion questions for each chapter at the end of the book that can be used facilitate discussion in a study group. Feel free to create your own questions to encourage the women you are
