Hi, I’m Gunnar Grey. I write books. I’m a historian, political junkie, target shooter, and retired adventurer and equestrian. I read avidly and post reviews or at least ratings for most of the books I read. Occasionally my poor husband surfaces from beneath a pile of paperbacks, gasping for air… but I shouldn’t bore you with personal issues.

I live in Humble, Texas, just north of Houston, with four parakeets, the aforementioned husband (who’s even more entertaining than the birds), an orange betta fish with no manners, a fig tree, the lawn from the bad place, three armloads of potted plants, and a coffee maker that’s likely the most important item we own.

J.’s Recent Updates

Rune Seeker 4 by J.M. Clarke
"⭐️⭐️ - VERY mid... just so much fluff and repetition, nothing is new, the pace is super slow, all the battles follow the exact same progression, things just aren't interesting anymore. wish i'd stopped at book 3 and left things there."

“First draft blues:
"He tested the stick and glanced at the set handbrake. With his feet he felt the accelerator, the brake, the clutch. Backwards, but otherwise just the same, and comforting in a solid, mechanical way. It even smelled right, oil, petrol, lubricated warm metal, and the polished windshield seemed transparent in the night’s silver flood.”
J. Gunnar Grey, Deal With the Devil, Part One

“For though my rhyme be ragged,
Tattered and jagged,
Rudely rain-beaten,
Rusty and moth-eaten,
If ye take well therewith,
It hath in it some pith.

- THE PRELATES from "Colin Clout"
John Skelton, Complete Poems

“I leave off therefore,
Since in a net I seek to hold the wind.”
Sir Thomas Wyatt

“Fool," said my muse to me. "Look in thy heart and write.”
Sir Philip Sidney, Astrophel And Stella

“I now have learn’d Love right, and learn’d even so,
As who by being poisoned doth poison know.”
Sir Philip Sidney, Astrophel And Stella
