Many moons ago, I abandoned academia after receiving a degree in English Literature. Nowadays, I write fiction when I'm not toiling away as a copywriter/copyeditor in the healthcare space.

Here are some nice things people have said about my work:

“Douglas Hackle is one of the best writers of bizarre, absurdist work out there.” – Charles Austin Muir

"The best bizarro absurdist in the business.” – Amy M. Vaughn

“He's consistently delivered some of the weirdest, wildest, most well-written fiction I've ever read.” – Arthur Graham

“The head honcho of the absurd, the governor of wackiness, the top dog of insanity…Intelligent and imbecilic, Douglas Hackle is one of the most unique voices in bizarro fiction.” – Zoltán Komor

“…a master of the short story.

However, if I ever do change my nom de plume, I’ll likely go with something a little less, er, masculine (?) than your suggestions. You know, something more along the lines of, say, Joyce Carol Von Hackgasm or Harper Lee Hacksaw McNasty.

Or perhaps even Running-With-The-Night.

Why that? Because, just like Lionel muthafuckin’ Richie, I was running with the night, playin' in the shadows, just you and I, till the morning light...(less)

Why did I go with Hackle? I’m not entirely sure, my tiny little son. But I suspect it might have had something to do with the fact that, like Lionel muthafuckin’ Richie, I was running with the night, playing in the shadows, just you and I, till the morning light.(less)

Quotes by Douglas Hackle  (?)
Quotes are added by the Goodreads community and are not verified by Goodreads. (Learn more)

“Though completely irrelevant to the story, seventeen minutes and thirty-two seconds later, every instance of the word “the” that appeared in this chapter transmogrified into a tiny, blue, pineapple-headed bat that flew away to France to start a brand new life even though they all hated France (except for French fries, guillotines, and that place in France where the naked ladies dance). Regarding the latter, apparently there’s a hole in the wall where tiny, blue, pineapple-headed bats can see it all.”
Douglas Hackle, The Hottest Gay Man Ever Killed in a Shark Attack

“King Kranlin became dizzily aware that day was now indiscernible from night, that selfness was essentially the same as otherness, that all things had become nothing, and that nothing had become everything.
“What’s happening to me?” he croaked.
“I shot you with my deconstruction pistol,” King Derridap said. “An invisible différance-bullet has pierced that well-fed belly of yours. You’re deconstructing.”
Douglas Hackle, Clown Tear Junkies

“TERROR MAN. TERROR FACE. TERROR CLOWN. TERROR CHILD. TERROR MAN. TERROR FACE. TERROR CLOWN. TERROR CHILD.”
Douglas Hackle, Tall Tales with Short Cocks Vol. 4

“It is the uncertainty that charms one. A mist makes things wonderful.”
Oscar Wilde

“Some people never go crazy. What truly horrible lives they must lead.”
Charles Bukowski

“To my mind, a well-developed sense of humor is the surest indication of a person's humanity, no matter how black and bitter that humor may be.”
Thomas Ligotti

“Not-writing is a good deal worse than writing.”
Flannery O'Connor, The Habit of Being: Letters of Flannery O'Connor

Douglas Hackle Oh, yes. I DO know a little something about that. But thanks for thinkin' of me, slice.

Ms. Nikki Thanks, for the friend-vite. Feel free to browse my shelves (did that sound bad?, Oh, well.) for books ideas or if you just want to be nosy. It's all good. I've got a lendable shelf also. If you see something you'd like to borrow, just let me know.

Douglas Hackle I can now finally join the ebook revolution, as I just acquired a new cell phone that's big enough for me to comfortably read ebooks using the Kindle app.

Douglas Hackle Cool. My first interview as a writer!

And should you have as about as much interest in reading an interview with me as you do in lighting your own genitals on fire, perhaps you might want to check out a picture of the little nub that is all that’s left of the extra finger I was born with on my left hand. Such a picture accompanies the interview (scroll down a little when you're there to see it). Freaky stuff!
