Another great summer read from Mary Kay Andrews! I loved The Homewreckers. It has all the essentials of a good beach read: secrets, lies, scandal, romance, and drama! This book follows the main character, Hattie as she works to renovate a beach house on Tybee Island (on my bucket list!). She soon discovers the property holds many secrets which she uncovers while doing a reality show about the redo. And of course, along the way is some romance and love thrown in. This is a fast moving, plot twisting book with great characters and location. I love all of Andrews' books that I've read so far and can't wait for more!...more

The Summer Getaway is an absolute beach read. It takes family drama to the next level- this book's plot could be the synopsis for the next Lifetime series. Secrets, lies, affairs, wealth, romance, fights... sometimes a bit over the top, but most beach reads are! I enjoyed this book overall, though, sometimes the characters were on the annoying side. The story follows Robyn and her family as she travels to California while healing after a divorce. She is the matriarch holding the family together and they each, one by one, trot after her. This is a good read for someone looking to escape for a while- with a cocktail and an ocean view!...more

This Christmas novella was a bonus story at the end of The Secret of Snow. I really enjoyed this short story, such a sweet plot line and characters. I want to visit Saugatuck, MI during Christmas now (and I don't live too far away, so I totally could and should)! Also, it sparked my interest in bottle brush Christmas trees- what a fun idea!...more

Denise Hunter has done it again with Mulberry Hollow. I couldn't get enough- or read it quick enough (I mean I stayed up til like 4 am more than once!). Mulberry Hollow follows the story of Avery and Wes who meet when Wes becomes ill while hiking the Appalachian Trail and Avery (Dr) treats him. Of course they have an initial connection that develops over a series of events that bring them close together. This is a story of love, trust, faith, and grief. I love all of Denise Hunter's books and The Riverbend Series does not disappoint!...more

One Fine Date is a cute, quick romantic read. I was looking for just that after reading a heavy book... and it's February- the month of romance;). Overall, I enjoyed this book and it's theme of finding what makes you happy in life and who you are. This is the story of Adrian (a typical serious business guy) and Kari (a flighty artist girl). As you guessed, the two oppsites drawn together unexpectedly. Each teaches and inspires the other to dig deeper into themeslves and how they are living their lives. Though I enjoyed their interactions, I never found myself connected to the characters and their story like I do in other books. If you're looking for a quick, light romance, for say vacation, this fits the bill!...more

The Lost Promise of Ireland is the first book by Susanne O'Leary that I've read, which means I haven't read the other books in this series either... and I probably won't. This whole book was a struggle for me- I struggled to engage with the plot and to finish the book. The main character Maggie is recovering from a split with her partner after over 20 years and two kids together, so she returns to her childhood cottage for the summer to mend. There she reconnects with many old friends and a long lost boyfriend, which turns out to be a dud. But there's lots of good changes in her life resulting from this vacation and she ultimately finds what she's looking for. This book was just too tedious and boring for my taste, I suppose it had potential, it just didn't reach me. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it, but hey, you may find you like it, you never know....more

Sleigh Bells on Bread Loaf Mountain is a nice short holiday story~~~ I received an ARC of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review ~~~
Sleigh Bells on Bread Loaf Mountain is a nice short holiday story that takes place in Virginia's Green Mountains. The book follows the chance meeting and development of Roxanne and Mark's relationship. Roxanne is at a crossroads in her life and she finds that Mark (and Vermont) is just what she needs in her life. This is a book about family, Christmas magic, romance, and being true to yourself... it has a very "Hallmark-esque" feel- and needs to be on your holiday book list. Lindy Miller is a new-to-me author and after reading this book, I definitely would like to read more of her books in the future....more

Leslie North is a new-to-me author and I think I may be hooked. Rancher's Family Christmas is a nice, quick holiday story about Alex (the rancher) and Juniper (neighbor). They both have issues to overcome as they find their way into each other's hearts. This is a story about healing, family, love, and Christmas. I definitely would recommend this book to snuggle up with next to your Christmas tree on a cold winter night. I would like to read the other 2 books in this holiday series that detail Alex' brothers' stories in the future....more

Christi Barth is a new-to-me author and I found The Christmas Project to be a pleasant surprise- it is truly a wonderful holiday story! This is the second-chance romance story of Scott and Mariana, two college bff's. They reconnect as they work to save and renovate a historical, dilapidated mansion located on the shores of Baltimore, MD. The Christmas Project features a nice spin on the traditional college-friends-second-chance-romance plot. It is a nice quick, well written, and engaging book that I really found myself connecting with. The overall themes of this book are love, forgiveness, trust, friendship, and Christmas. I look forward to reading more books by Christi Barth in the future....more

1oo Plants to Feed the Birds is a lovely collection of photographs and informations. The books has hundreds of bird and plant images as well as zone maps. It is well organized from: Trees, grasses, perennials and annuals, shrubs, vines, cactus, and lastly charts of bird species matched with coordinating plant species, as well as information about native plant societies for each state. This book is a wealth of information, easy to read, and enjoyable to peruse. I am an amateur gardener and birder; I strive to plant native plants to my northern Michigan local that will create healthy habitats for and attract birds. I definitely recommend this book if you have similar interests! ...more

Michelle Major is a new-to-me author, and I'm glad I had the opportunity to read one of her books- and look forward to reading more in the future. Their New Year's Beginning is a cute, HEA, romance story following Emmaline and Brian. It takes place in Texas and follows the Fortune family, I'm assuming are characters from another of Major's Texas series. Brian Fortune is a typical bachelor, while Emmaline is undergoing huge life changes as she faces life as a single mother. They meet at a party and hit if off and decide on a casual relationship until Brian leaves Texas to return to New York. However, as you can guess, they catch deeper feelings! This is a nice story of trust, family, and love. It was a lovely book to start out the New Year with. I definitely recommend the book as well as the author!...more

Christmas at the Château (Bainbridge House, #2) is the second book by Rochelle Alers that I have read, both being holiday books. I have not read the first Bainbridge House book from this series, but I don't think it was necessary, this worked fine as a standalone. I really enjoyed this book as it followed Viola and Dom's relationship as friends and then more. Rochelle Alers is a good author whose stories and characters really draw me in. Viola is part of a large mixed race family of 4 other siblings, all adopted. I enjoyed this family's story, however, it's not very Christmas focused (other than a wedding happening around the holiday). Overall themes of Christmas at the Château are family, trust, and love. I would like to read the first book in this series and any additional in the future. My only comment would be that some things were repeated in the book, like she told about Viola's story and then retold it as Viola told Dom. There are a couple instances in this book where this happened, which was kind of annoying. However, overall I recommend this book for a night in out of the cold wintery weather. Pick it up, you won't be disappointed. ...more

What a lovely book! This book is exactly what you'd expect from a National Geographic published work. America is full of beautiful public spaces, including the National Parks of course, but there are a plethora of amazing parks across the nation that are state, county, and city parks as well. This book features a unique combination of the beauty found in the various types of parks and public spaces found across America. Beautiful photographs, fun facts, and informational essays detail each park space. 100 Great American Parks is organized into 5 regions for the reader's convenience. It is the perfect coffee table book (great gift book) or perhaps for a waiting room. Based on what the sample of this book that was provided to me, I would definitely recommend it! ...more

Rancher's Forgotten Rival is a great beginning to a new series for Maisey Yates. The premise of this book is interesting and unique- though I don't know how believable. Otherwise, I really enjoyed the characters and storyline. This is the story of Chance and Juniper- two young adults who grew up amid a feud between the two ranching families (the Carsons and Sohappys) that goes back generations... Issues they face when fate throws Chance and Juniper together and forces them to sort out. This is a story of forgiveness, love, family, and romance. I look forward to reading rest if the series once they're available in the future....more
