I really enjoyed the first book in this series (Toward the Stars), but I think K.M. Parke really found their stride with this second book. You will NOT be disappointed if you pick up this series! I think Parke does an excellent job with weaving in lovable tropes (enemies to lovers) without falling into the trap of boring/predictable. You might get whiplash with the way you start rooting for different characters in book 2 but its in such a fun way. An excellent balance of world-building and plot leaves you only wanting more by the end of the book. I am dying for book 3 - I haven't felt this excited about a series in quite a while. Dare I say worthy of an acotar hangover?

You never expect to be out here rooting for a serial killer to find love, but it happened and I'm not sorry. He's also got an Irish accent for anyone who needs more of that in their life.

If that's your thing, this book is for you. You'll spend 95% of it kicking and screaming at the injustice against the FMC, which is actually a nice change of pace. Usually I'm yelling at the FMC to 'move on,' or 'get over it,' but she wasn't the problem in this story. We can really blame the men on this one and I'm here for it.
The authors writing is excellent, which really adds to the overall experience of reading this book. You've got great writing, great plot, attractive characters (physically and emotionally)... but you will be missing spice, if that's what you came here for. Perhaps it's coming in book #2, but it really wasn't necessary in book #1, so find your fire somewhere else for the time being. This is worth reading, I promise....more

"We walked in silence, yet in the quietude, echoes of unspoken words and unuttered feelings resonated, painting emotions as vivid as the blossoming flora that adorned our path."
I thoroughly enjoyed entering the world that Karina Espinosa created for the Blood Weaver. Her writing was beautifully descriptive and immersed you in each scene. You are introduced to a FMC who has been on the run for the last 10 years and has resolved to remain hidden. Our morally grey MMC is a mix of gentle and ferocious; willing to do anything for the FMC, even at his own expense. If anything, I think this book could have been longer. More time spent with the MMC could go a long way to building the tension.
Leila has kept her identity secret from everyone except her closest friend but you discover along the way she has never been as hidden as she thought. As the reader, you can feel the frustration that Leila experiences as those around her vaguely imply there is more to her story than she realizes but refuse to divulge details. Left in the dark, she has to decide when to reveal herself as Lyanna and when to endure.
*Spoiler Alert* - The torture she endures at the hand of Caelan is one component that I find confusing in this story. We are meant to believe that he is no longer the childhood friend she knew and yet after he happily attempts to kill her and tortures her, he then goes on to save her from a mutual enemy. This is before her identity is revealed, so it doesn't necessarily add up that he would defend her in this way and Leila just accepts this at face value. I would have liked to see Caelan's character with a more defined arc so we can better understand him.
Enjoyed this read and looking forward to more from Karina! ...more
I was completely influenced to try this book by TikTok and I'm not sorry about it. This completely captured me from start to finish. The world buildinI was completely influenced to try this book by TikTok and I'm not sorry about it. This completely captured me from start to finish. The world building happens within the plot, so you don't feel completely overwhelmed with information - it happens organically. Of course, the author has also included definitions and overview info before you even start the book, so you're able to get an idea of what is coming.
We have a FMC who speaks her mind, sometimes to her own detriment, but there were a few times where I laughed out loud at her responses. Before a room of judges with her life on the line, she essentially says f*** it and decides to go out on her terms. Listen, I know sometimes when someone describes the FMC as feisty your first instinct is to cringe, but it's true here. She's a lot of fun, if not sometimes a little bit frustrating.
You'll love the MMC here. I wouldn't necessarily describe him as morally grey because it's pretty clear everything he does is for the interest of others, but you will get a little bit of the 'misunderstood MMC' trope.
There was not a major cliffhanger at the end but you are left hanging on a few plot lines, so I am absolutely dying for book #2! You'll like this book, I promise....more
