It was fucking perfect (hide spoiler)] + Their complete trust in each other's skills
The neutral o Some of the sound effects were kind of weird. I can't help but snicker when a loud sound gets described as blang!, it really cracks me up
The bad - Some parts of the plot made no sense ((view spoiler)[like Matt knowing where they live, or them leaving Matt alive in the hotel after he served his purpose (hide spoiler)]) - August made his home into an impenetrable fortress. It was penetrated in like ten seconds flat. Things like (view spoiler)[Matt getting through the wall, or all the little mistakes with the security (hide spoiler)] just don't fit with what we know about August
I really liked this book and I read it in one sitting. I would definitely recommend it, and I can't wait for the third book!...more

That part was so important yet so sweet + Jamie and Gabriel giving Drake the time he needed after he asked for it + Drake's missing limb not being the main focus of his character. Aside from the small struggles with putting on clothes and the box carrying incident, I often forgot he only had one arm. The author dealt with that really well + Drake's insecurities and how his men helped him overcome them + Drake's possessive streak. (When he smelled Gabe for the first time, damn!) + How both shifters made sure Gabriel knew he was included in everything, since he had his doubts because of his weaker senses + How Gabriel and Jamie realize from the very beginning that it's about three of them, not just two of them, and therefore never experience any issues with jealousy common in new poly relationships. They also made sure Drake knew he was welcome as soon as possible + The cover. It is absolutely gorgeous
The neutral o A large part of this book took place simultaneously to the previous book. The result is that events are announced and then completely skipped, only briefly recapped afterwards. This really broke the pace of the story o I would've liked a few more recaps of what happened in the previous books, just to be up to speed on the whole situation. (I definitely hope this will be better in the next book, since it'll be like eight months until then)
The bad - Due to most of this book happening simultaneously to the previous book, it felt like hardly anything happened or progressed in this one - Because the reader was expected to know and remember the characters from the previous book, they weren't really introduced to us. Because of that, I felt like I hardly got to know them until they were already bonded, which I think is a pity. I would've loved to be rooting for them more when I could say with absolute certainty these guys belonged together before more than half of the book was already over
I think it was a good book, and I would recommend reading the series to others. However, the overlapping story fell a bit short in this installment. Still, it was a good book with a gorgeous cover and three adorable men....more

Foster boy DeShaun really deserved those + The reality check (what they're doing is still illegal, even when they feel like they're doing the right thing) + The sheer power of the Guardians. I love me some OP heroes, and these guys do not disappoint
The neutral o (view spoiler)[DeShaun's revalidation was basically nonexistent and he didn't even really need Odd's (emotional) support. I feel like this is a missed opportunity (and also unrealistic, but then the whole surgery and recovery is so that's alright). (hide spoiler)]
The bad - (view spoiler)[Even though it sounds like an asshole thing to say, I didn't like that DeShaun was "cured". Odd liked him just the way he was, and I thought that was extremely powerful. Them being together for only like two days and DeShaun immediately getting "fixed" after that was a little bit of a letdown for me... (hide spoiler)]
The good + X's endless tolerance of everything Tate does + X's pining + X's respect for Tate and how he just wants what's best for him + X's extreme selflThe good + X's endless tolerance of everything Tate does + X's pining + X's respect for Tate and how he just wants what's best for him + X's extreme selflessness when it comes to Tate + Tate coming out of his shell and finding out X will let him get away with basically anything + Tate returning X's devotion + Tate taking good care of X's knives + The ending. I don't care how cheesy it was, it was perfect
The neutral o I would have preferred had Tate's boyfriend sold him out or something, so his disattachment made more sense
The bad - Nothing satisfying happened against the regime they escaped from
Quotes x I vowed to do whatever it took to live long enough to take X out on that date. It would be worth it, just to see him scowling at everything. x "I don't stalk people. I stalk you." x That could be my mission for the next couple of days, shower him with declarations of love and watch him grow more and more uncomfortable. x "Your hands are shaking." "All the best doctors shake. It's how you know they care."
This is still one of my favorite books. X is an amazing main character, and the way he indulges Tate is so sweet. Tate's trust in X is great to see, and the way their relationship progresses is just perfect. I would definitely recommend this book and I'll read it again for sure.
Read in 2021 and 2022. Bought a physical copy for my bookshelf....more
