We all know the Hallmark trope. A big corporate business shark comes to a small town to tear down a local business. Said business shark falls in love with said town and usually the owner or family of the small business. Gets swept up off their feet, and decides to leave their big fancy corporate job and their uptight shallow business girlfriend for the daughter of the small business owner. The end, happily ever after. The only twist is that our main character is the uptight shallow business girlfriend who gets dumped, and has been 3 times in a row, seemingly never getting her Happily Ever After.
Nora is a literary agent. People call her, "The shark," because she's ruthless. Ambitious. Bloodthirsty. She loves her nieces to death, but doesn't want kids. Her job comes before anything and everything, except maybe her sister. She doesn't really do serious relationships or "feelings" - that is until a certain handsome and equally bloodthirsty literary agent named Charlie comes around.
Nora and her sister run off to a small town featured in a book Nora published recently, to get away before Nora's sister gives birth to her 3rd child. And who might they run into though on said vacation?

This was such a fun short read! I thought all the characters were very adorable and the drama kept me hooked. My only complaint is that I felt like the series ended sort of abruptly and the epilogue didn't really give me what I needed, so I wish it ended differently. Bryce and Hunt are trying to get back to relatively normal after saving the world from an onslaught of demons unleashed from the depths of Hel earlier in the year. After Bryce revealed her true heritage on a national stage, she's gotten a lot more attention than she bargained for, not all of it good, to say the least. She learns that the Autumn King has arranged a marriage between her and a fae prince (Who is also her cousin, ew).
Let's just say Bryce and her lightening super powered boyfriend are not exactly happy about that ...more

They tell each othMisha and Ryen have been pen pals since 5th grade when their teachers accidentally paired them together because of a gender mix-up. They tell each other everything- hopes, dreams, fears. They fight about trivial things like pizza and console each other about serious things, like how their parents abandoned both of them at a young age.
One day, Misha accidentally runs into Ryen at one of his shows and is disgusted to learn that she's a prissy, popular brat, and nothing like the sweet, dorky nerd he's come to know and love in their letters. On the same night, Misha's sister dies of a heart attack, and after that point, he stops writing Ryen completely. He runs away and mysteriously shows up at Ryen's school under the name "Masen," keeping his identity from Ryen a secret to spite her. The rivalry between the two starts to become something more as they spend more time together.
I am going to preface this review by saying that I am giving this 5 stars purely from an entertainment standpoint. In the real world, when a girl says "stop," when you're getting hot and heavy, you stop. And you would never EVER tell a girl she's a "slut," or a horrible person, or dish her a whole slew of verbal and emotional abuse just because you think she "deserves it" for making a couple of mean jokes, or, "not being who you thought she was."
Honestly- as I write this, I feel like I should have hated this book for all of the problematic behavior mentioned above, and the BULLYING. Misha publicly humiliates Ryen several times throughout the book, using things she told him privately in her letters over the years against her to embarrass her in front of other people.
So- why did I like this? I loved Ryen, I thought she was such a complex and enticing character with a rich backstory. A mean girl who's only mean because she used to be on the other end of it, who's just doing what she feels she needs to do to survive? Yes. I am a little embarrassed to admit that this was me in high school, I don't think I was as mean as Ryen, but I definitely know the feeling of putting up with unwanted bullsh6t from guys and doing what you think you need to do to make people like you and make it out alive of the complete and utter h3ll hole that is high school.
That's another reason I loved this so much, the rich atmosphere of the setting, infused with drama and BULLSH5T, this book exposed high school for what it really is, and that is to say, completely sh7tty. I'm not judging you if you actually liked high school, I just distrust you very strongly if you think that it's supposed to be the best time of one's life.
I also absolutely adored the writing, the plot was fast-paced, dramatic, and twisty, and THE STEAM was sexy as all get out. Although, still, when a girl says no, it means no. Even if you think it's just because she's scared you're going to get caught having sex in a library, you should still probably get off her when she says, "I think we should stop."
Sigh. Oh, books.
So enjoyable, yet so problematic sometimes ...more

The Risk (#1)
Wow, ok, I have found a new obsession!!!
You're probably looking at this cover right now and thinking this is some really kinky smut or something, but it's not. I'm serious, there're only two sex scenes in the whole book.
Lana is a serial killer. (Yes, a lady serial killer (!!!)) She has a long list of abusers, and she's hunting each and every single one of them to get her revenge. Logan is an FBI agent. He's working on Lana's case, trying to catch the person responsible for all of these murders. They start dating and things get very very interesting.
I don't usually condone murder, but in this instance, I was totally rooting for our murderous baddy over here and she should just keep on doing her, because yes queen. Paint it red.
I did have some practical questions throughout the book, I know that Lana thinks she's going to jail eventually and just wants to live her life and has been lonely for a while, but I still slightly question her decision to be in a rather serious relationship with a freaken FBI agent, that doesn't necessarily seem very smart. I wasn't actually very surprised at the end of the book when (view spoiler)[ Logan's partner showed up at Lana's house demanding to know why she stole the identity of a dead person, (hide spoiler)] you kind of knew that was bound to happen at some point.
I loved when we finally found out Jake's relation to Lana, that was very satisfying and he can also Get It as well and I am here for his revenge streak too.
I honestly feel like there wasn't even really that much romance in this, which I genuinely didn't mind, the focal point is mostly the crime/thriller aspect.
I cannot wait for Lana to catch the Boogeyman by surprise and totally f*ck him up, I know it's gonna be nasty and I am 100% here for it.
Can't wait to read the next installment!! Happy reading <3
Sidetracked (#2)
UGGHH THE FRIGGEN CLIFFHANGER, EVERY TIME
Just like the first one, this was amazing. Lana and Jake do some digging on one of Logan's nosey colleagues and discover she was sexually abused by her stepfather, who they track down and murder.
After torturing him, ofc.
I'm don't think I'm a sadist, but I definitely don't mind all of these rapists and pedophiles getting all their fingers and d*cks hacked off.
Already starting Scarlet Angel, I swear I am not getting any work done for the next 2 days.
Lana Supremacy forever <3
Scarlet Angel (#3)
Ya girl Lana is back at it again, taking names, getting justice via cutting off the d*cks of rapists.
100% here for it.
She finally comes face to face with the Boogeyman and has her way with him, but things get a little complicated when one of Logan's colleagues sees the whole thing go down and essentially figures out that Lana is the Scarlet Slayer. Lana ends up confessing the whole thing to Hadley, who agrees to keep her secret because Lana killed her stepfather (who was a pedophile and a rapist). Meanwhile, Logan is revisiting an old case and believes that a man was wrongly convicted of being a serial killer to cover up something much more sinister.
In this book, we learn a lot more about why Lana's doing what she's doing, and why all those god damn awful bastards who ruined her life did what they did to her. Turns out Lana's father (view spoiler)[ was wrongly convicted as a serial killer, and the town took matters into their own hands, covering up all the rape/murder/attempted murder because they thought Lana and her brother were the spawn of satan or something ridiculous like that. (hide spoiler)]
As the series goes on, I'm becoming slightly more invested in the romance, but I still think all the badass vigilante sh*t is the main focal point of these books. I don't mind one damn bit.
Can I just say real quick though that I really feel like the covers are doing this series a disservice?? They're so smutty, which probably turns a lot of people away from the books, but the books are SO GOOD, and mostly not smutty.
Lana 4eva <3
All The Lies (#4)
Holy crap, I can't even- I can't even.
Kyle is a sick piece of f9ck and he got what he deserved.
I hope are Lana ends up ok, that was a rough ending ):
Paint It All Red (#5)
This is officially my new favorite thriller series of all time, WHAT AN ENDING to a very tumultuous and riveting story.
I was actually very surprised that I ended up loving this as much as I did. I'm usually very squirmy when it comes to rape and murder and all that jazz, but I feel like this was actually a very cathartic read, and even if you don't intend to, you sort of end up rooting for "the bad guy."
I was genuinely shocked when they revealed the original killer, I did not see that coming.
And can we talk about how Lana named her cat Bennett?? Fricken- adorable ; - ;
I'm glad everyone got the ending they deserved. The very end gave me chills though, I mean... Logan just- (view spoiler)[ kidnaps someone for Lana to torture and murder once a year??? (hide spoiler)]
Kinda creepy, but you do you boo.
I recently found out that S.T. Abby died and I am very sad because I am head over heels for her work, she will be missed ):

TI will start out this review by saying, like I do in many of my CoHo reviews, that I have mixed feelings about CoHo books. I love them, I hate them. There is absolutely no in between. It's either a 5 star book or a 1 star book. Sequels are pretty hit or miss too, and I was especially nervous about this one because It Ends With Us is one of my favorite books of all time. I was like, "what more could they possibly do with my favorite book?"
Full disclosure, I thought this was going to be a "fast forward 5 years" and they're all living happily ever after type deal where it's warm and fuzzy and nobody cries.

This was FANTASTIC
3 women, 1 from Singapore, 1 from the U.S., and 1 from Korea, all live in a share house together, with two other Japanese men. The group struggles to come to terms with the complicated intricacies of their identities and tackle language barriers, and build life long lasting friendships and relationships along the way.
This was so tender and heartfelt! I loved every second of it, from the art to each and every one of the characters. The only thing that was sort of unsatisfying was the ending:
Evelyn Hugo doesn't talk to the press anymore. She just doesn't. So when Vivant, one of the world's most famous magazine companies gets a call from Evelyn Hugo doesn't talk to the press anymore. She just doesn't. So when Vivant, one of the world's most famous magazine companies gets a call from her, asking specifically for Monique Grant to do a piece on her, they're all confused. Monique is a complete rookie. Why would Evelyn want to talk to her?
When Monique arrives to interview the world's most famous starlet for the Vivant piece, Evelyn tells Monique that she is dying, and she wants Monique to write her autobiography. A tell-all. She's going to dish the dirt about her whole life, all 7 of her husbands, and the one true love of her life.
I loved Evelyn as a character, she was just so powerful and unapologetic it made me weep. We love a lady who knows how the system works and uses it to her advantage. I still felt sad for her and all she had to sacrifice to be successful though, it makes me wish that the world worked differently.
Rex was probably my favorite husband, aside from Harry, obviously. I just felt that he and Evelyn both had a really similar vibe, their relationship seemed businesslike and fairly straightforward until the end of it. I really liked Rex's character arc too.
My least favorite husband was Max. Yes, I know Don should be my least favorite probably, and he is a total tool and an abusive piece of crap also, but I just can't stand the fact that Max acted like he was in love with Evelyn when really he was in love with the idea of her and the fame she brought him.
I loved Connor and the goodness she brought out in Evelyn. I liked that despite how complicated and messy Evelyn's personal life was, that she was still an engaging and thoughtful mother.
You knew in the beginning that Evelyn was probably connected to Monique in a twisty way, but the ending still totally got me and I did not see it coming at all! Genuine shock over here.
I don't think I really realized the extent of what Evelyn did to Monique's dad until the very end, that whole scene was confusing to me, but at the end, I was like, "OH. Well, ok, yeah, that was really messed up."
Overall, this book made me a little sad, but it also highlighted the sacrifices and the hard choices you have to make sometimes to protect the people you love. I liked it (:

Juliette is now in a rebel compound, trying to learn how to use her powers (and also make friends??). There is a war afoot. There is also lots of drama and making out.
I am LOVING the Shatter Me series so far, I know there are a lot of books but I have yet to experience burnout.
I'm warming up to Warner. Adam's just becoming so... desperate and needy, it's kind of gross. And not like in an "I need you right now" kind of way, but in a, like, "you already told me it's over and I'm still going to bother you about being with me and beg you to take me back all the time." Ew. Stop that, have some dignity.
THAT TWIST:
(view spoiler)[ I CANNOT FREAKEN BELIEVE ADAM AND WARNER ARE BROTHERS!!!! I genuinely did not see that coming and you know we love a good plot twist. (hide spoiler)]
I'm normally not too keen on love triangles, but I feel like I've been reading a lot of books/series with that trope lately and I'm beginning to hate it less. I guess it's stressful when it's like Twilight, where the MC is trying to pick between the two main love interests at the same time, but slightly more tolerable when the MC is with one of the love interests first, and then the other during separate times. That's more struggling to pick between two different versions of their selves/who they are when they're with each person rather than, like, "I just don't know which hot guy to pick!" So I guess I can get behind that.
I'm still not completely sold on Warner, just because he does seem to be kind of- erratic still, and you know, (view spoiler)[ kind of teamed up with his evil dad again there at the end (hide spoiler)], but I'm definitely coming around to him.
Also I like his tattoos.
Anyway.

Nikolai is trying to navigate being the ruler of the Ravkan throne, while also battling a darkness the Darkling left in him before he was killed by the sun saint. Tensions between Ravka's neighboring countries are high. Zoya is trying to make sure the king's secret doesn't get out. Nina is gathering intelligence in Fjerda.
As if they don't have enough problems already, one day a horde of pilgrims shows up to the palace gates bearing the dismal flag of the darkling, demanding that he be made a saint. The leader of the group is taken to the grand palace to "plead his case," and upon conversing with him, Nikolai and Zoya discover that he might have the answers to Nikolai's demon problem.
This is by far my favorite book in the entire Grishaverse so far. I just absolutely adore Nikolai, Nina, and Zoya, and having a book about just them was truly a treat.
I wanted to smack Yuri so hard for like 90% of this book, he was an absolutely unbearable character.
I cannot belive how many twists there were in this book, especially the last 100 pages or so, TwistSSS plural.

Mild spoilers if you haven't read King of Scars or any of the other books in the Grishaverse.
Ravka is reeling after a Shu assassination attempt on the King. War is close on the horizon. Tamar travels to the South to confront the Shu with princess Erhi, they take Mayu to testify against Queen Makhi and search for Mayu's brother, who is imprisoned in a lab meant to rip Grisha apart and put them back together as war soldiers. Nina is doing spy work in the north among the Fjerdan in the house of commander Jarl Brum, she's become quite taken with his daughter, who has chosen to present herself at court in hopes of helping Nina gather more intelligence about the war. Meanwhile, Zoya is grappling with her new powers, searching for the Darkling, and trying to ignore her growing feelings for Ravkas king.
I feel like my summary is a little dry but I just don't want to give anything away because this book is so TWISTY.
I loved King of Scars, but I feel like this installment had everything I wanted, more romance, more jaw-dropping twists, more super BAD-ASS magic, and more Kaz Brekker, who makes an appearance (gotta give the people what I want).
My mini rants about the plot twists-
David:

I should have known better when he and Genya finally seemed happy together, I should have guessed it was too good to last. But come on- why do you have to destroy me like this, my real life is already stressful enough. (hide spoiler)]
Jordan:

Hanne & Prince Rasmus:
(view spoiler)[ This was the other twist where I was very satisfied, everyone got what they wanted, stupid Rasmus got what was coming to him, Hanne got to be in a body they finally felt comfortable in, Ravka got its peace, and Nina got her prince. 10/10 on this plot twist. (hide spoiler)]

I donI haven't read the Grisha trilogy yet, so it took me a minute to get immersed in the world of Ketterdam, but I feel like caught on pretty quick. I don't think you necessarily need to read the Shadow and Bone books before you read SOC.
Basically:
There are the Grisha. They got powers, people are scared of their magic, and most of them are slaves or if they aren't, they are very secretive about their identities in order to avoid persecution. There's a new drug in Ketterdam that enhances Grisha powers and the only person who knows how to make it is a scientist who has been kidnapped by the ice court, which is a powerful military country that enslaves, imprisons, and murders Grisha, because they believe that they shouldn't exist. Kaz Brekker is a thief, thug, no-good criminal and runs one of the most powerful gangs in Ketterdam. He gets kidnapped and brought to a wealthy merchant who's got a job for him: break into the ice court and bring the scientist back alive.
I loved this book. I thought all of the characters were really well developed, and I liked that there was some underlying romance, but that it wasn't the center of the story. I will say that there's A LOT of gore, also lots of slavery and human trafficking. A lot of the ethnic cleansing-type things the Fjerdan were doing to the Grisha felt eerily similar to Nazi Germany-type stuff.
I liked the intricate world-building and all of the twists and turns that came with this book, I hope the crew gets their revenge in this next installment!
Yes, I know I haven't really commented on any of the characters, but Idk how to talk about them and their relationships without giving away spoilers. Nina and Inej are my favorites (: Also I hated Matthias for like half of this book, but I'm glad he was able to redeem himself. Kaz is a total badass and I hope he finds the courage to tell Inej how he feels in the next book T - T

Juliette's touch is toxic and deadly. All her life she's done nothing but try to behave, to keep to herself, be small and quiet, so she doesn't hurt people. But now two sides of a warring nation are after her and her abilities, and she is forced to come to terms with her powers.
I LOVED Juliette as a character. I feel like a lot of times female MCs are either total divas or fluffy pink airheads and there's no in-between. Juliette is the perfect Goldi-Locks MC, she's kind and quiet, but not naive. Powerful but not arrogant about it. I am liking her so far.
The chemistry between her and Adam is so good. At this point in time, I cannot understand the appeal of Warner at all, I mean, he's a psychotic fascist murderer who has literally stalked Juliette her whole life, how is that attractive.
I guess that's the one part of this book that I really don't get so far, the love triangle. I get that Warner is supposed to be attractive or whatever, but as previously stated, he is a psychotic fascist murderer stalker and I just don't see the appeal. Also, he literally tried to murder Juliette's boyfriend several times... I just... I just don't understand why she can't stop thinking about him all of a sudden.
Anyways.

Alina is, understandably, struggling to adjust to life as a living saint. The caves of the White Cathedral are slowly suffocating her, as is the watchful eye of the apparat (who I want to smack all the time). Wanting to fight in the war against the Darkling, Alina and her friends escape the caves of the White Cathedral and make their way across the country in an effort to find the firebird- the 3rd amplifier, that will give Alina the power she needs to defeat the Darkling.
I liked Ruin & Rising way better than Siege & Storm. Idk why, I think Mal was just so freaking horrible in that one that all of his whining and terrible patheticness just kind of tainted the story for me. I wrote a whole rant in my Siege & Storm review about how childish and selfish Mal was throughout the book, saying Alina doesn't spend enough time with him when she's trying to lead a freaking army and win a war.
Ew.
But Mal redeemed himself in this installment, or at least, was a significantly less atrocious human being, so props to him for being less of an asshole.
Honestly, I had a lot of trouble keeping track of all the new characters- like- I know Harshaw is the one with the cat, and Misha is Bagrah's cute little orphan assistant- but other than that, I couldn't really tell you the difference between Toyla and Tamar, and if there were other characters, I don't remember them.

"There is no princess of Engelsberg," said Matthias. "It's a fishing town." Nina shrugged. "If we're going to lie to ourselves, we might as well be grand about it." Kaz ignored her, spreading a map of the city over the table, and Matthias heard Wylan murmur to Jesper, "Why won't he just say he wants her back?" "You've met Kaz, right?" "But she's one of us." Jesper's brows rose again. "One of us? Does that mean she knows the secret handshake? Does that mean you're ready to get a tattoo?" He ran his fingers up Wylan's forearm and Wylan flushed a vibrant pink. Matthias couldn't help but sympathize with the boy. He knew what it was to be out of your depth, and he had sometimes suspected they could forgo all of Kaz's planning and simply let Jesper and Nina flirt the entirety of Ketterdam into submission. Wylan pulled his sleeve down self consciously. "Inej is part of the crew" "Just don't push it." "Why not?" "Because the practical thing would be for Kaz to auction Kuwei to the highest bidder and forget about Inej entirely." "He wouldn't-" Wylan broke off abruptly, doubt creeping over his features. None of them really knew what Kaz would or wouldn't do. Sometimes Mattias wondered if Kaz was even sure. "Okay, Kaz," said Nina, slipping off her shoes and wiggling her toes. "Since this is about the almighty plan, how about you stop meditating over that map and tell us what we're in for." (hide spoiler)]
