I'm not sure how to rate this one. Technically it is a four or five star. It is a very dark, gritty, and creepy book. And it is a very well written novel. But this is not for the faint of heart. A coming of age story set in 1970 - two brothers on a journey that goes very wrong and how they survive it....more

Krull does an amazing job making Einstein and his work accessible for middle graders. Quite an enjoyable and fascinating read. I couldn't say whether Krull does an amazing job making Einstein and his work accessible for middle graders. Quite an enjoyable and fascinating read. I couldn't say whether all the science information was 100% accurate but it certainly read well. And amazingly enough, Krull doesn't leave out some of Einstein's lesser qualities (lack of people skills, womanizing, etc.). ...more

I laughed so hard through this book. Tammi Sauer's text is funny and well done and Dan Santat's illustrations are incredible and the combination of the two make for a wonderful book. Marge and Lola are chickens who enter a talent contest in order to win tickets to the Elvis Poultry Concert. Their competition are the various animals in the barnyard. But what kind of talent or skill do chickens have? They can't fly. They can't swim. They can't juggle or bowl. So what are two hens to do? Basically act like chickens. They bawk, squawk, and dance their way through the talent show and though they don't necessarily win the tickets. They do win the eye of Elvis Poultry who hires them as his back up dancers. ...more
I am still pondering this book. I'm not sure how to rate it (though I gave it a four for now). If you are a fan of Francesca Lia Block's writing then I am still pondering this book. I'm not sure how to rate it (though I gave it a four for now). If you are a fan of Francesca Lia Block's writing then you will love it. The book has a beautiful poetic feel to it. Lia Block tells the story of Bee (a changeling) in this beautiful, haunting manner. It is a quick read though and a wonderful introduction to Lia Block's writing if you haven't read her work before. ...more

It didn't require pages before I was fully engaged. Second, I read it in nearly one sitting not wanting to put it down and when I had to I really wanted to come back to it. Third, I loved the characters. The characters you are suppose to love you love and the ones you are suppose to hate you hate. And guess what...many of the adults in the story are respectfully written. Wow! Fourth, I loved that it was different from a lot of stories out there currently. Since the book was set in China and uses Chinese/Asian mysticism and doesn't have vampires, werewolves, and faeries, it was a nice change. However, all the fantasy, paranormal aspects are there. Fifth, (you can tell I really liked this book) Pon did an incredible job create a very vivid and real world setting. Sixth, I loved that Ai Ling - the main female character - is a strong, smart girl is isn't silly or running into things willy nilly. I loved how she learns about her abilities and how they develop over the course of the story.
I could just go on and on about this book but I won't. I will say if you haven't read it go read it. And I wish I could have given it a 4.5 instead of a 4. I don't want to give away an ending spoiler but that was where I was most frustrated. It didn't have the closure I wanted it and I hope that is because there will be a sequel. Someone please tell me that there will be a sequel. ...more

THE MILES BETWEEN is a story of hope, redemption, fate, friendship, and grace. Peason tells the story of one teen's journey towards healing with warmth, humor, and incredible skill. The entire book takes place in one day. The pacing of the story is just right - never dragging and never going too quickly.
Destiny Faraday is a student who lives at a private boarding school. After meeting a stranger, Destiny sets out on a roadtrip with three of her classmates searching for "one fair day - day where the good guy wins and everything adds up to something just and right". However, on the trip Destiny learns more about friendship, and confronting your past than she has from years of therapy.
I can't say enough good things about this book. If you haven't read a book by Mary E. Pearson then this is a great one to start with. If you are a fan of her other books then you will love this one as well. Just go read it....more
