They were one of my most anticipated reads because I love love love that she was romance bookstore owner! But I fell in love with them because of their friends to lovers story. Laura writes friends to lovers like she was made for it.
Learning about Saylor & Kingston’s backstory was extra special. For Kingston to realize his feelings after all this time and be able to place when it started. I mean, the man has truly been in love since he was a teenager and he didn’t even know how to express it. *cue Tori sobs here*

Not only did I love West, but Skylar was an amazing FMC and her character development was phenomenal. I found myself crying with her when she was dealing with some of her internal battles and anxieties. I found myself wanting to crawl through the pages to hug her. And the fact that she found a man who was willing to be patient with her and love her the way she needed to be? Sobbing. I am a mess.
You fall in love with Skylar as she learns to fall in love with herself.
The relationship Skylar developed with West’s kids was one for the ages. Emmy was one of the cutest kids ever and I wanted to give Oliver the biggest hug and all my support.
I loved this book. Simple as that.
But also the spice??? I was sweating. SWEAT. ING. BYE. I don’t know how Elsie just SAT THERE and wrote this. Did she do it with a straight face??? Inquiring minds need to know.

“My dad always tells me that no means to try harder. So, if I say, ‘Dad, can I have a freezie?’ and he says, ‘No,’ I just try harder. I’m working on a pony now. He keeps saying no, but I’m not giving up.”
My heart throbs uncomfortably. I’ve known West for what feels like a blink of an eye and a lifetime all at once. People write songs about this feeling.
“Breathing is overrated. I’d rather be drowning in you.”
“I’m done pretending that being your friend is enough.” I grip her thighs. “Now spread your legs.”

I read book one of this series and definitely fell in love with these brothers, but book one was second chance, high school sweethearts, small town so I was thinking there was no way to top that for me. But book 2 did.
A single mom trying to gain full custody of her three kids and leave her husband behind - a very powerful and controlling husband who’s in the public eye. Of course I was hooked the moment I found out that this was a single mom, but her circumstances were mind blowing to me.
This book takes you through a rollercoaster. I mean honestly I felt like I managed to read three books just in the case of this one. It was amazing and cannot recommend it enough if you want a broken MMC with all the spice and ALLLL the plot.

Truly, where do I begin on this review? Because I don’t even know how to put my love for Oliver & Macey into words… they’re a magical couple & Jenn’s Truly, where do I begin on this review? Because I don’t even know how to put my love for Oliver & Macey into words… they’re a magical couple & Jenn’s portrayal of them was *chefs kiss*
A single mom, running from home with her young daughter meets the love of her life by chance on a plane to NYC. I don’t know it gets anymore serendipitous than this, but then Oliver opens his mouth and calls her “Seat Wife” and I have to say, I am up for grabs if anyone is looking for a seat wife. (Though I think I may be Jenn’s, hold please.)
After not seeing Macey for a while, he happens to stumble upon the restaurant she works at as a bartender/waitress and after spending a little bit of time together, is immediately infatuated with her and her daughter and offer them the chance of a lifetime to let Macey fulfill her dreams.
“I don’t want to be your charity case.” “Is that what you think you are? The last fucking thing I ever want you to think you are, is a charity case, Macey Evans. I didn’t buy this for you because that’s what I thought you were. I bought it because I want you to feel good going into your interview. I drove you here with a single suitcase for you and one half the size of that for Mackenzie. I had a gut feeling that there wasn’t anything in either of those that would make you feel ready to nail this interview.”
Macey’s love language is feeding people and Oliver’s is definitely gift giving & grand gestures. Mans knows how to make a girl fall hard.
I also love that Macey didn’t have a ton of experience and Oliver made her feel seen through all their moments together. It took Macey some time to get there even though it was clear Oliver needed no time at all. And for such a golden retriever I did NOT see the mouth on this man coming in hot.
“I’m not all the way in, baby. Arms over your head,” he orders. “Grip the bars of the headboard and don’t let go.”

I didn’t anticipate this book ending on a cliffhanger. The way I kept tapping the screen for the next page and NOTHING was coming?? I was like woah, is my Kindle broken? But no. It was a cliffhanger. An angsty cliffy to keep me on my toes and make me beg for the next one.
I am very much in love with this world and am very excited to continue. A grumpy widower cowboy who brings ice cream and BDE and I’m here for it. I felt so much pain from Luke when we learned how he couldn’t let go of us his wife. I wanted to crawl into the pages and hug him, but also slap him for the way he spoke to Eli.
Eli is a young college girl who comes to stay with her grandparents for the summer totally set on losing her v-card, which is fine. Cool. Let’s do this, gf. But the moment Luke finds out, all games are off and it’s his to handle. A bit of a caveman, honestly. Why am I so for it?? I’m not really sure. My feminism went OUT the window for this man.
I highly recommend if you love some good angst and age gap. I NEED book 2 like my life depends on it.

I'm a sucker for a small town - especially one where the characters and their personalities remind me so much of Stars Hollow and this definitely does. Fox is the epitome of Luke Danes in the best way. So, grumpy sunshine?? Yes. And I loved every second.
Fox is the super grumpy neighbor to the new girl in town, Josie. She inherited a house from her dad when he passed away when she was 13 and just recently went through some mental health issues and decided that she needed a break and went to the house to go spruce it up - then she gets there and has the best introduction to Grumpy Fox (seriously I was dying laughing out loud) and discovers the house needs way more than a little sprucing.
Josie fits perfectly into this town with all the meddling, gossip, and Christmas cards. Fox has been there his whole life, minus the time he spent on the road while a professional hockey player, but now he's running a business in the small town. They're an unlikely pair, yet absolutely perfect for each other.
I will say, this is one of those stories that feels like you got the HEA for Josie you never got. We've all been there...dated the broken man in hopes of fixing him or hoping he'll fix himself. Nine times out of ten, they don't. Josie's story is the one time. It's heartbreaking and yet heartwarming all at the same time.
I loved this book and you will too if you love ✨ Grumpy x sunshine ✨ Neighbors to lovers ✨ Small town ✨ Mental health rep ✨ Ex-hockey player

This is officially my favorite Catherine Cowles book. It’s my top book of 2024 so far and it’s made it into my top 10 reads shelf on Goodreads. I am so fully in love with this book. I’m in love with Lawson, I’m in love with Hallie, I’m in love with the way that she handles his (their) kids. It was beautifully written and I don’t think I’ll ever love a book more.
Lawson is the last of the siblings and he’s a single dad to three kids. Two of the 3 are little hellions, but the oldest is the one who’s clearly dealing with internal things but presents like any 16 year old would - by acting out. He’s struggling to remain present in day to day activities, keep the house moving and grooving, and be the chief of police successfully. So incoming Hallie.. the gorgeous nanny who he once saved 5 years ago. Her “blue.”
Their relationship was beautiful. It is a slow burn in the best possible way where you watch their romance unfold before they even get together. Lawson is incredibly patient with her and he doesn’t really let what would be red alerts for most people stop him with her. I think it’s easy to describe them. Soulmates. They were always meant to end up together.
Hallie’s individual relationship with each other kids was amazing to read. I think it’s heartbreaking as a kid without a mom, and to see her step into the nanny role but somehow be exactly the “mom” each of them needed had me crying. Literally. I was crying like a baby!!
I cannot recommend this series enough, but this book specifically. I have loved every single one, but Lawson and Hallie have won me over.
You’ll love this book if you love ✨ Single dad x nanny ✨ Age gap (13 years) ✨ Protective MMC ✨ Close proximity ✨ Small town ✨ Romantic suspense ✨ Slow burn
