I was laughing out loud throughout the whole entire thing. This one also had a little more "eww" factor in it...although the MC Doug doesn't really have to worry about getting unidentified and strange STD's. I can't say anymore without giving away the whole story. This book had everything I enjoy in my monsterporn. Good writing, a gripping story, science and disgusting/orginal descriptions. 'Her Mass of pubes puffed over the waistband like her pussy was chewin' hair and blowin' bubbles'. 'Estefani's snatch was a terrible, freakish Godless abomination...''The overall effect was somehow simultaneously grostesque AND sensuous. Like two burlesque dancers with their faces stapled together'. 'Folds of skin unfurled from both sides of the chupacabra's true head. The elephantine labia were tipped with spines along their edges like a stegosaurus' fin or like the vegetable teeth of Venus fly trap' Really these are just some of the quote worthy phrases throughout this short work. I loved it. I especially loved the 'thanks' section at the end which gave a shout out to goodreaders karen and Nicole. Although it was a little strange seeing karen's name with a capital 'K'. LOL. Thanks for giving me this present Dixon. I truly had a good ole time reading it!!!...more

I was a little worried that it would be like pride and predujice and zombies. But it wasn't. This was unique re-telling of Cinderella's story. She is no longer a girl that we should feel sorry for. Cinderella is tough, skilled and smart. She knows everything there is to know about the undead. Think for Resident Evil than Disney when you picture this heroine. I strongly recommend this short zombie story to fans of the genre. It was fun!
The good: The writing is entertaining and never dull. Emily Casey did a good job of giving the reader the right amount of information in this novella. Cinderella is just the right amount of kickass without being over the top. The Prince is not just a pretty face either and matures quite a bit in a short amount of time. The zombies are awesome. They are allergic to fresh vegetables. Not sure about fruit before. I have never encountered this weakness in zombies before.
The bad: It was short. The action scenes are a little scattered but were still entertaining. I missed the evil step mother.
Maddox Fox had a quiet childhood. A very quiet one. She has no clue about her parents past. Doesn't remember her grandparents and knows nothing about Maddox Fox had a quiet childhood. A very quiet one. She has no clue about her parents past. Doesn't remember her grandparents and knows nothing about them. In grade school she gets a bit of information but not enough and her parents clam up. As she gets older her past becomes more and more of a mystery until one day she stumbles upon the truth. She was born more than 170 years ago and was brought into the future for various reasons. Some good and some bad. Now she must make a life changing descion. To stay or go back?
The Good: There are absolutely ZERO zombies in this book. And I still gave it 4 stars!! I KNOW AMAZING right?!? Well let me enlighten you to a little known fact about myself (expect if you happen to stalk my books on goodreads! And, good god, why would you do that?) I've read every single one of the "Little House on the Prairie" books. I was obsessed with pioneer life as a child and would pretend for hours that I was a pioneer girl!!! This book took me back to some of those childhood memories. I relished every minute I spent reading about Maddie's travels back and forth. I loved her Grandma. I LOVED Henry. We all know how much I love to swoon...well let me tell you Henry is swoon worthy. Maddie is a tough but sweet girl. She's not mouthy or disrespectful. She's not acting tough and trying to rebel. She is just trying to be happy and do the right thing. Does that get her down? Well wouldn't you be a little down if you found out your whole life was a lie? I loved the genealogy. Katie Andrews Potter has spent a great deal of time researching genealogy and I would happen to guess that it is a hobby of hers from the care and love that she gives to it in this book. The writing. I felt like I was there. I loved it. What a fantastic ride she takes the reader on. The back and forth between the two time periods never gets manic. It's very fluid. It's beautiful take-me-away writing. This was one of those books that I didn't have to think about where the author was taking me. I just said "Ok, you got me at hello. Let's get on with this joy ride". The mystery element was woven in just right. Sometimes in books the thriller aspect can feel forced and tacked on. That was definately not the case here. Honestly my poor writing skills cannot and are not even doing justice to how great this book is!!! This book can be read by all ages. I am 28 and it made me feel like I was a little girl again. (In a good way). My 59 year old mother will enjoy reading this when it comes out. So will my 12 year old niece...well maybe if I can convince her that "those vampires" are not the be all and end all of literature. The love story between Maddie and Henry is sweet. It definately is one of the more tame YA books I have read in awhile. Guess what? I still got those same OMG he is soo hunky/OMG please just get together butterflies without all the bare skin and innuendo. The not so good: ( I don't want to. You can't make me!) To be fair and balanced in my review I will mention that there were maybe 2 typos (Ms. Andrews Potter please don't ask me to remember them. I don't). I rarely dock review points for grammer/spelling/punctuation errors. I refuse to here. It's not necessary. If I can't remember them now then they really are very minor. However, I know there are some people that cannot stand errors in books so I need to mention that I noticed some. The characters needed flushed out more. This book is fairly short. We are given a ton of information (about characters, time periods, family backgrounds etc) within these pages. I loved each and every one of these details but I finished the book wanting more!!! MORE! I feel like I was just getting to the good stuff and all of sudden I was at 100%. I would have loved to see more of Henry and Maddie's love story. However, that is not what this book is about. It is about the journey to bring them together. Is this a fault in the writing of the book? Not at all. It's just what I, the reader, wanted to see more of. *Katie Andrews Potter is writing a whole series of books about the sisters in this story. I will be reading each and everyone one of them. AND I AM BEGGING HER PLEASE REVISIT MADDIE AND HENRY!!! There is so much more to tell. *Also if I was a fan-fic writer I think I could do amazing things with this story + zombies. LOL. Just kidding.

Blood follows the story of Odin on his quest to become a night. He was born to an unknown creature and left with a man to raise as his own son. What was good: I love that Kody tells us the story behind the story before each of his books. Hearing that this tale was his Moms favorite made me smile. The writing is drool worthy. I am not kidding here. I had so many passages highlighted on my kindle for this review. I think I will just use the first one I highlighted because it is a good sample of Kody's mastery of words: "Morning came with the scent of dew and the glistening kiss of rain. Through he had slept for only a few mere hours, and while his body protested even the idea of rising and riding on horseback thorughout the rest of the day, Odin opened his eyes to a world that looked absolutely magical. Water droplets reflected golden-orange light in every direction, creating miniature rainbows across his plane of vision; the plants glowed green, as if new and virgin-birthed; and the earth seemed fresh and new, almost as if the devastating storm had not happened and thrust him into this horrible situation. Everything seemed godlike, in a way, as colors pulsated in ways never before and the light appeared more physical than it seemed entirely possible. Beauty couldn't describe what Odin saw through his eyes at that particular moment."pg. 31. Wow I think my head exploded when I read that. I was like ok..I'm in let's go for this ride. Odin is a great character. He overcomes alot of problems in this book. He is everything you want and need in a hero. He is smart, strong, well read, magical, good with a weapon, and above all brave. Even when it seems like he was going to give up he didn't. Even though it is a fantasy the character were very real. Through Kody's descriptions of both the places and people in this book I was transported. Isn't that the point of reading books. What wasn't so good: I really don't have anything too bad to say about the book. There we some minor typos but I have made myself pretty clear that I do not ever judge a book by typos. However, I will mention it because I know it drives some people nuts. The fantasy genre is really for me. While I enjoyed this book and its characters that was because of Kody's writing. If another less talented writer had told this story I wouldn't have been as enthralled as I was with this book. If you are a fan of fantasy than definately get this book. Now I am patiently waiting for his YA project with Rhiannon Frater!!!!! After reading two of his books and being a huge fan of Rhiannon Frater I can tell that book is going to rock my face off!!!!
