Arik is too unlikable for me to care about, and it's kind of strange to think of this story as a romance when Matthew is literally under a spell for at least half of the story (I stopped reading some time after the halfway point). I'm sure the story will come up with something like Matthew was already in love with Arik before the spell was cast or that even after the spell was removed Matthew was still in love with him blah, blah, blah but Arik so unlikable that I don't care. The Armitages had every right to be upset with him - he even admits as much - but instead of trying to apologize and explain himself, he does everything he can to be as difficult as possible.
It's interesting that there are people who've read this story and actually liked Arik. I love how we can all read the same story and walk away from it with totally different opinions on the characters and the story overall. ...more

I've come to realize that I don't like stories that involve a mistaken identity or someone lying to someone about who they are. This stories features the former situation and it's really annoying, especially since it should have clicked by now that the Dylan that Ryker and August are spending time with isn't the Dylan that they've been chatting with prior to meeting up. Dylan definitely should've realized that something about their conversations wasn't adding up, but he was too self conscious and horny to think straight.
I'm almost 200 pages into this nearly 800 page story and nothing is happening except a lot of kinky sex and Dylan constantly being confused as to why the two alphas just assume he'd be into any of it (not that he wasn't). I'm kind of getting bored, and from the reviews I've read, I don't think that'll change as the story progresses.
I'd categorize this more as erotica than romance because I haven't seen any romance yet. This isn't a bad story by any means; it's just not what I'm in the mood for. I also didn't care for any of the characters. The alphas were too pushy and aggressive, and Dylan...well, he was nothing but a timid ball of submissive horniness. There wasn't really anything to actually like or dislike about him.
I'm definitely interested in trying to read some of this author's other stories. This particular story just didn't gel with me. NO RATING. ...more

I listened to the audiobook while reading it, and maybe it's because the narration was done by ai, but there didn't seem to be any real emotions in it. Everything was so matter of fact and detached. I tried reading it without the narration, and it was the same. It was so strange.
Anyway, the buildup to the two MCs realizing that they were in love with each other wasn't romatic, and the story just sort of ends once they got together. There was a short epilogue, but it didn't make up for how incredibly rushed the ending was. I don't know what else to say, other than that this will probably be the most forgettable story I read this year. ...more

In this world, humans look at shifters with distrust and treat them like second class citizens. They are literally walled off from the rest of society in these enclaves that are spread throughout the United States and aren't allowed to leave their walled communities without travel documents. When dealing with humans, they have very few rights and are almost completely dependent on them for everything since they can't live outside their cities. Mercy Hills is one of the wealthier packs, but even it struggles for enough room and basic necessities.
I thought this made for a great setup and was interested to see if and how this relationship with humans changed throughout the series but there were too many things that bugged me about this story and they became harder to ignore as the story progressed.
◇I still don't understand shifter customs and behaviors. If all shifter females can have babies, why are omegas targeted and treated so harshly? I understand that they have stronger heats and are more fertile than the other females, but is that all? That's enough to strip them of all of their rights? And seriously, were there no alphas outside of Mercy Hills that wanted a loving relationship with their mate? These omegas bore alpha children and cared for them. How did they all grow up to be such assholes toward them?
◇Because the adults rarely spent any time as wolves and discussions of their wolf nature and how it affected them beyond discrimination from humans were barely discussed, this didn't really feel like a shifter novel. We were given very basic pieces of information about them, like how alphas could use their "alpha power" to compel others to do what they wanted or how they could smell when someone was nervous or scared. We were told omegas usually go into heat once a year and that shifters liked running in their wolf form whenever they got a chance, but that was pretty much it. The shifter aspect of the story wasn't all that important. These characters didn't have to actually be shifters in order for this story to make sense; any disenfranchised group that treated a certain subset of its population terribly would've worked.
◇I read this because it was supposed to be a MM romance, but it didn't read like one. Baxter could've just as easily been a female, and nothing about it would've had to change. That sounds kind of strange, but if you've read a lot of MM romances then read this, you'd know what I mean. Even by the way Baxter was described, you'd think he was a female. Whether that's a turn-off or not would depend on the reader, but I personally didn't like it.
◇I don’t mind long stories if the plot calls for it, but that was not the case here. I only made it to the halfway point, but I can already tell you that it's too long. Far too much page time is given to details and situations that have zero impact on the overall story. When Baxter prepared or served a meal, when he got his kids ready to go out, or did literally anything, we were told every single thing he did as well as every single thought that crossed his mind. It made the story unbearable at certain points, and made it hard to enjoy anything meaningful taking place between the MCs.
◇And finally, this story was just plain exhausting to read!! ...more

A mpreg shifter novella... by an author I'd never heard of (not that that means anything....)? Yeah, I expected an okay-ish story with a lot of smut, flat characters, and a plot that was thinner than a sheet of paper. And I was okay with that. I just wanted to start the year with some good ole omegaverse debauchery and move on.
What I got was a story with very little smut, a plot that actually held my interest, and likable characters that I wouldn't mind following into their own stories. For a novella, I was impressed. Jason and Mac, our shifter MCs, had great chemistry, and I liked them being together. I just wish the story was longer so we could've seen how that relationship grew.
The chapters that focused on Jason were written in the first person POV, while the chapters focused on Mac were in third person. I'm not sure why it was written that way, but it was kind of weird. It didn't take away from my enjoyment... just something I noticed.
My only real complaint had to do with the world building. I got some sense of what the relationship between humans and shifters was like, but i didn't understand how the shifter world worked as a whole. I also didn't understand the biological breakdown of the shifters. There were alphas, betas, omegas, and... gammas? Jason said his father wasn't an alpha or a beta, just an average delta wolf. Was he considered a gamma?
Apparently, you don't have to be an omega to get pregnant, and I would’ve liked to know more about that. Also, it was never explained what power a "True Omega" has. Jason being one was the main reason he and his father were running away from his former pack, so I'm confused as to why it was never fully explained. I'm sure the upcoming books will get more into it, but that last thing really bugged me.
Since I'm not judging this like a full-length novel, I can say that I really liked it. It's a great start to a series with future books that are much longer (though, seriously, why is book 6 over 750 pages? ...more

It was the most unbelievable "love story" I've read all year. So unbelievable, in fact, that that love doesn't even make an appearance. I like the fated mates trope, and I have no problem with the insta-love that comes along with the territory, but this story didn't even have that; just lust and a desire to possess.
What makes it truly unbelievable is that, in less than three days, Carson, the human fated to be with the two bear shifters, goes from being this super straight vanilla dude who's never been attracted to men and isn't even comfortable with ass play... to being this perfect sub, who likes being tied up, spanked and spit roasted by two muscular men with cocks so big he can barely fit them in his mouth.

My gaze finds his, and the warmth in his eyes chases away the chill trying to settle in my bones. "I'll choose Brad in this universe, and every other."
Even knowing that this story was never going to make sense, I still had a hard time rolling with what was happening in it. Am I truly supposed to believe that Catalina was okay with living with Brad and Raul for weeks before deciding to leave? What was their relationship like? What did they talk about? Were Brad's frat brothers really okay with a literal werewolf walking around their house? Why wasn't Raul freaking out more about the fact that what Brad had been saying was true, and now he was living in the future? Maybe I could've gotten clarification on these points if the story didn't time skip all over the place going from one main event to the other.
And, I'm sorry, but what the hell was Catalina's problem? Why was she so angry with Brad? He didn't ask to be in that situation any more than she did, but she's acting like it was all his fault. She was just as unhinged as Constantine, and I couldn't stand either one of them.

I was never interested in Yitro or Duer beyond their contributions as side characters in previous books, so reading about them falling in love with each other and Fallon didn't really do much for me. For some reason, I kept picturing Yitro as an old woman, and no matter how many times I told myself that he was, in fact, younger than me, I couldn't get rid of that image. His personality, his mannerisms, and the way he spoke didn't really help either.
Fallon and Duer experienced a lot of trauma in their past, and the majority of their story focused on them processing it in an effort to move forward with their lives. I'm sad to say that I was mostly unaffected by their conversations and realizations about themselves and their feeling for each other. This isn't the author's fault. Like I said, I never really cared about Duer, so it makes sense that, just as I didn't care much about his budding romantic relationships, I didn't care much about his past. It's just unfortunate that Fallon, someone who actually does interest me, has to be mixed in with them.
They make such a strange triad to me. And with two of them actively disappointed about being fated in the first place, I found the whole revelation hard to process...like, was I happy or disappointed for them? I guess Yitro doesn't have to worry about being lonely as he gets older but it's just strange that neither Fallon nor Yitro felt like they were mated and they just accepted it because Duer felt so strongly about it. Yitro and Duer were living together for over a year and felt nothing, then Fallon comes along and suddenly they're mates. It just doesn't feel believable. It's the first relationship within this world that feels this way.
Because the second half of the story focused a little more on the overarching plot, I enjoyed it a lot more. There were even a few chapters from Erwan and Rhene's POV, and that made me especially happy. Because this triad's story continues in the next book, I'm not as excited to read it, but I will if it means getting closer to Oliver's (or literally anyone else's) story and witnessing the birth of all those babies. 2.5 stars, though I won't officially rate it because this rating reflects me and not the actual story....more

While the series isn’t perfect I still consider it to be a favorite and I didn’t want the conclusion to ruin that for me. Well, I had absolutely nothing to worry about. This book was fan-fucking-tastic. The conclusion of both Maz, Lucan, and Sando’s story as well as the overarching plot was handled beautifully. There isn’t a thing I would have changed. Everyone deciding to stand up against General Armitage had me cheering like a lunatic. Absolutely tore me apart, then decided I'd suffered enough so put me back together with so much love that I was left exhausted after finishing it.
The love that I have for Lidon and his three mates are what made this story the emotional powerhouse that it was. I was bawling my eyes out at one point and even had to take a break because I wanted to hold on to those emotions before I continued. I can't remember the last time I've cared about fictional characters this much. That subplot really hut me hard.
As for the main subjects of this book, Naran, Sivney, and Lev, I still don't know what to think of them. Their relationship dynamic is so strange to me and I don't necessarily dislike it but I can't say that I like it either. If Sivney were a real person he'd, very succinctly, inform me that whether I like it or not doesn't matter and I think too highly of myself to think that my opinion mattered or that I felt the need to share it, lol.
I've read the first seven books of this series, along with one novella, back to back and I'm a little burnt out so I'm going to take a break before I finish the last two. Aside from the two books that focused on Bray and his men I can honestly say that I don’t have anything truly negative to say about the series as a whole. It isn't perfect and I know that it won't be for everyone but for me it's turning out to be one of my favorite series.
John Solo does an absolutely phenomenal job narrating these books. The way he gives these characters such unique speaking styles and enhances their personality really made the story 10x more enjoyable.
