The overall plot was an interesting one, I love the main character and how the author wrote her throughout the book. My main gripe is how there's some parts where it felt like the author was putting too much themes and subplots in this story, making it confusing to fully understand at times. Since it looks like this book would end up becoming a series, I hope that the plots become cohesive in any potential next books of the series....more

I love the concept of vampires having a pick near their hearts that go off if they have too much human blood in their system. I also enjoyed the plot of an hospital that takes vampires to harvest their organs. At times the story felt a bit slow build for a plot that sounds so cool. It was overall a decent read, it wasn't as interesting as "The Fury" but it was still worth a read. I might read "The Silent Patient" eventually.
The chapters were rather on the shorter side, making the story feel rather rushed at some parts. Some of the scenes of this book made me cringe, like the scene where Edward Fosca kissed Mariana after talking about "Do you think you can see inside my soul?" I love Mariana's character and the inner conflicts she has while being at the same university that she met her late husband at. Although the twist is predictable, I do enjoy how the author builds the reasoning as to why they did the killings....more

This novel uses the vast and endless sea in such a way that can cause you to be scared of the sea and scared for Whitt and his shipmates. If you're into ocean based horror, this book is for you...more
