I liked it better than The Red because it really made me feel. Lia isn't as alone as Mona was and I think that, too, added something for me.
I'd also note that, unlike The Red, this isn't really BDSM. There are elements of it, but it's a much lighter touch....more

Luna just came off as too young and naive for the background she supposedly had. I think Luna was mostly supposed to be guarded and scared, but it didn't come off at that way. Why did she seem so clueless about Rip's background (view spoiler)[I'm okay with her not figuring out his connection to Mr. Cooper. That's one of those things where a lot of the reason I picked up on it is because I am reading a book. But HM. What could his mysterious tattoos that he always covers up possibly mean! (hide spoiler)]
And "oh, I guess he's just acting like he likes me because of guilt." NO. She can be scared--she has plenty of good reasons!--but if we're in her head, we need to know that. It can't come off as she is just clueless.

1. The heroine does something REALLY stupid in the beginning. 2. Even more than Zapata's usual, this is not a romance. The couple was very cute and sweet in the end, but there just wasn't enough build up for me to really invest.
Also this is the first Zapata where I noticed crossover characters from her other books!...more

It seems to have spread more quickly and is also more deadly, but still! I'm reading this like, wait, are they doing stay at home? Social distancing? It's not that clear since it's about the very beginning and then past the first wave.
So anyway, really, this gets 3 stars because there was too much to the ending and too many questions left unanswered.

The "heartbreak" from the past is silly. I mean, it's not silly for her to have been heartbroken at the time of the actual event, but it's silly for it still to be a big thing. All of the wedding stuff was silly. (I mean, I get that weddings are kind of the premise of the series, but STILL.)
His reaction to her (view spoiler)[taking a Plan B pill (hide spoiler)] was bad! You are allowed to have complicated feelings, but this was not well done.
I also wasn't a fan of this "joke" (line not exact): "You're so happy. Did they give you antidepressants?" THAT IS NOT HOW ANTIDEPRESSANTS WORK.
