Loved getting more info on how Sidheag ended up back with the Kingair pack and once again seeing how kick butt Saphronia is. For a while I thought the book would end up on a cliff hanger b/c I couldn't see a way to wrap it up in time but it all came to a quick conclusion without feeling rushed to me. It continues to be a fun series and I can't wait until the next book. ...more

Firstly I love the name The Custard Protocol; makes me smile and starts me out on the right foot. We get to briefly catch up with some old characters and find out what happened to some other minor characters and then we delve into Prue's adventure. I like the snark and irony and the humor of the book and can't wait to continue the series. ...more

There are more hijinks and adventures as boys are brought onto the ship and the entire ship is taking a trip to London to attend an experiment. There is plenty of flirting and intrigue and even several kidnapping attempts.
I'm still really enjoying this series. I like that Sophronia had some new challenges this time including coming to turns with the consequences of her actions and how they can affect others. I loved that we managed to meet some new albeit familiar faces in this volume as well. It's a fun series and I'm happy to continue to follow it. ...more

His father worked and died aboard the Aurora and that is where Matt dreams of spending his days. Then he meets a girl name Kate, the ship is attacked by pirates and they crash on island in the middle of the ocean way of course. Kate and Matt find a new creature.
I'll have to add a better summary later. Suffice to say that there is a ton of action in this book. The full cast recording is amazing and Matt and Kate are amazing characters. Bruce is also wonderful and I did wish that his life had gotten more on track. Cloud cats are a brilliant idea. I love seeing the creative escapes and I also wish some of the pirates had come to a better end as I have romantic notions about pirates not being all bad. ...more

I was sent the ARC by the publishers and was very excited. I loved a lot of the Parasol Protectorate and was happy to see some familiar faces show up in this (although a little bit younger).
Sophronia is a wonderful character. She is funny, smart and engaging. Clearly the right choice for this type of Finishing School. I like the way the friendships between the major characters are playing out, and I find the idea of a spy school attached to an evil genius school very interesting. It will be interesting to see how everyone continues to develop, particularly those that we have seen in the future.
I'm also thrilled to be reading a YA book where romance does not take center stage, although it feels like there is one developing that will be rife with socioeconomic drama (although really if vampires and werewolves are acceptable, I feel color should be as well.) ...more

The Beta from the Kingsair pack has been murdered, the Queen of the Alexandria hive has requested Prudence and Alexia visit, and an interesting relationship develops between Lyal and Biffy. I loved watching the relationship between Lyal and Biffy develop, they were so frakkin cute. Alexia and Macon's relationship still felt a little bit stagnant at times but the adventure was definitely interesting. ...more

I was beyond exciteSaw an advertisement for this somewhere and thought it looked really interesting. I got it through interlibrary loan and loved it. I was beyond excited to realize that it's available online as well. Agatha lives in a possibly Bavarian world circa 200 years ago where mechanics and magic collide. Those with a spark have phenomenal inventing and mechanical prowess. Agatha appears totally hopeless but is kept at the college anyway b/c the Head really likes her. She's sweet but seems a little bumbly. Then we start getting peaks about the truth about Agatha, who is definitely way more time then she seems.
I'm ecstatic to find out that it's a webcomic online since my library doesn't have many more volumes....more

She refuses to let her pregnancy put her out of commissionAlexia is extremely pregnant and trying to figure out who is threatening the Queen and why. She refuses to let her pregnancy put her out of commission. She fears that this is related to her husbands old packs attempt on the Queen, so she begins to look into the past. She learns unexpected information not only about the pack about about her own history as well.
I finally feel like Alexia is back to being the tough lady that I met in the first book, and because of that I no longer feel quite so frustrated. She wasn't willing to let anyone stop her from doing her job this time around. I was also super excited to learn more about Prof. Lyall, who has always been one of my favorite characters. He definitely has a lot of secrets and each one that gets revealed gives you a little bit more insight into him and the pack. I was super excited to learn that him and Alexia have a tie I wasn't expecting. I am also really beginning to like Biffy and I hope to see more of him.
I definitely didn't figure out the mystery ahead of time this time. To be honest I was so into watching everyone interact with each other that I forgot there was a mystery going on most of the time. But I liked the unexpected twists and I thought the solutions Alexia came up with will make for an interesting next book.
I definitely want to know more about the baby. Totally didn't understand why the Vampires are so afraid of her and I can't wait to what happens next....more

As time goes on it is becoming more and more difficult for her to control and making it harder for her to keep a job. One night she is forced to run from her employers home and is hit by Griffin King a Duke who sees her as one of his own; people with abilities. He takes her in and soon learns that Finley has an interesting and unexpected connection to him. Finley joins Griff, and his friends Emily, Sam and Jasper on the hunt for The Machinist, a criminal who is managing to make machines turn against people.
I absolutely adored this book for so many reasons. Being the book geek that I am, I always love it when a book finds a way to connect with other books so I was completely amused and intrigued by the connections drawn to Jekyll and Hyde and Journey to the Center of the Earth.
I loved how the two parts of Finley become integrated over the course of the book. I liked watching her become stronger and more finely tied together. However I still loved her split parts as well, particulalry how part of her was attracted to Griff and the other part was attracted to Jack Dandy. (It's the first love triangle in a long time that has annoyed me beyond belief.) I also found Jack Dandy extremely interesting. He was a criminal beyond a doubt but he was an interesting mix of commoner and smart business man. I definitely think he is someone who makes it a point to allow others to underestimate him and I really hope that he is involved in the next book even though they will be leaving England for it. I also enjoyed watching Sam come to terms with himself and the changes that Emily made to save his life. I am hoping that in the next book he will continue to grow and become a little bit smarter. While I don't expect his temper to entirely disappear, I am hoping that he continues to think about things more. My biggest complaint about the book was the lack of information on Jasper so I am very excited to see that the next book in the series is going to focus on him and that was all resolved.
I also really liked how The Machinist tied into Griff's groups' past and I was very intrigued by how he was able to get the robots to work. While for the most part the story was anything but predictable there was one point regarding what the Machinist was planning where I found myself getting frustrated. Someone as smart as Emily is supposed to be should have figured out what was going on a few pages earlier. I did find it a little bit irritating that she had to wait for Griffin to come to the lab and figure out what was going on. I wanted her, Finley and Sam to be a little bit more independent sometimes; but I'm hoping over the course of the series the characters will continue to grow and learn to stand on their own.
