It had a large number of people in it and in the north is Gorhaut and in the milder south, Arbonne. The north is still trying to recover from a war which was ended by giving away land. This means they want to invade Arbonne, who they consider to be soft. Blaise, a fighter from the north ends up in the south after falling out with his family and the new king, ends up drawn into the plans of the leaders of Arbonne. There is just so much in this book, with old feuds going back two decades. The mysterious priestess of the Godess Rian, who sacrificed her eyes for power and by the end of the book we find out why. The Lord en Bertran is anouther good character. The troubadour Lord. In the north I feel really bad for how the women are treated, it's probably worse since the new young King is a bit crazy. Blaise s dad, the top priest for the God Corannos is also pretty mad, and not a very likeable person. So I can recommend this book....more
