I felt like it dealt with the main character's beliefs without being preachy or hitting you over the head with it, and I really really like that the book didn't end with her renouncing her faith in favor of science but allowed her to grow and adapt and find a way to allow faith and science to coexist....more

09/06/2016: The thing that I really love about this book is how skillfully Marchetta takes you on an emotional roller coaster. I'm sobbing, and two pages later (or sometimes two paragraphs), I'm laughing and having my heart warmed.
08/01/2015: Yep, still devastating after three reads.

I just finished my second read through of this book, and it was even more moving and tragic than the first time, if that's possible. I missed so much the first time around, partly because the beginning is confusing and partly because it's easy to get distracted while listening to the audiobook, which is why I missed the big reveal about Fitz the first time. But man, knowing what's coming makes everything sad and wonderful and heartbreaking and there are so many emotions involved in this book. This is likely to become a book to which I return again and again. These characters are amazing, and I love all of them, and I cannot recommend this book highly enough.
Oh. My. God. This book, whoa. WHOA. I thought I had pretty much gotten all the emotional stuff out of the way, and then the last three chapters happen and BAM! Crying in the car on the freeway. I've actually got the paper copy on hold right now at the library because I feel like I really missed a lot at the beginning when everything was confusing and I had no idea what was going on. Also (view spoiler)[Fitz killed Webb? I totally missed that explanation during my listen of the audiobook. (hide spoiler)]

First read: Oh my god. I loved this series conclusion, though I do wish I had MORE to read, and I'm freaking looking forward to her companion series, Parasol Protectorate Abroad. This book was seriously so wonderful, and I love everything about it, particularly the large role Biffy had. He is just so delightful. I'm sort of coming down off a reading high after finishing this; like that feeling where the book really takes it out of you emotionally, and you need time to process everything before picking up anything else....more

The title should put inappropriate men listed first, as that's what she focuses on most and knitting hardly at all, which was disappointing. Her romance woes are outrageous and made me thankful for my own relatively drama free relationship. And I couldn't put the book down. It was short, quick and easy to read, and I love drama that doesn't belong to me. ...more
