This addition to the series includes betrayals, attempts on her life, and an exiled librarian that is out to destroy the library.
Irene is a fun main character to follow. She is feisty, determined, and is able to keep the males in her life in line, be they human, fae, or dragon.
The world-building continues to be as essential as the characters in moving the story along, and it is very well done....more

A few chapters were very boring for me. Too much of the same ol', same ol', leading nowhere. The last few chapters really picked up again and made for a quick and fun 'read'....more

I have really enjoyed the first 4 novellas in this series and wasn't quite sure if the series would hold up in a full-length novel. I am pleased to say that it held up very well.
One of the things the author did very well in the novel was show the complex relationships between all the characters. SecUnit's, or Murderbot's (as it calls itself) dry and sarcastic humor remains an important part of its emotional makeup, though it prefers to still think of itself as not having human-type emotions.
The adventure was fast-paced and kept me on my toes, wanting to know what was going to happen next. If life hadn't been so insistent in getting in the way, I would have read this book in a day or two....more

This novella is full of all the sarcasm and adventure I love about The Murderbot Diaries. It begins as a locked room -- actually locked space station, mystery. Murderbot must work with humans, who don't really like it very much, to weave through the deceptions, mysteries, and intrigues that began with finding a dead body on the station.
Even though I loved this story, I can't pinpoint what it was that didn't give me the same thrills as the first five. Still, I highly recommend this series, and can't wait to delve into the next books....more

I didn't enjoy the main character and honestly didn't care what happened to her. The side character, Vince, is the main reason I stuck with the book. It wasn't until the last few chapters and I got curious how everything was going to wrap up, that the story captured me at all.
The shadow magic was interesting.
There were parts of the book that dragged, added no suspense to the story, and made me feel like I was slogging through the book, just to get to something interesting, again.
