I saw the movie first then the book. What I was hoping the second book would have was Odd going to Las Vegas fighting bad guys and solving mysteries. What I got, was sad depressing story about how sad Odd was.
I mean I get it. People died in the last book, I just, feel like, nothing was resolved in this book. The scope of book one was big, mall shooting, and epic love, multiple characters. This book, Forever Odd, was, smaller in scope, which made me bored. Why, did Dean Koontz write such a long book about such a small topic? I had such big hopes for this series, and the second book just seemed to lose most if not all the charm of the first book.
I might read the third in the series, but I might not. I'm disappointed. ...more

It had a lot of hype and it's going to be made into a movie so why not right? Overall my impression was. MEH. It's okay. I've read better mysteries than this. It lacks the surprise element that Gone Girl had. I figured out the ending well before the big reveal.
If you were looking for a book that has a lot of hype, or you want to read it for a book club then sure. If you are looking for a tense trhilling book, I'd pass. Or I would look at We Were Liars, (Which I thought was excellent) or just read Gone Girl. But as far as this book goes, it's a bit forgetable, and a bit slow. Meh. Meh. ...more

But I too really liked it, and It's probably one of my favorite books of 2015. Like Gone Girl, this book has a pretty sweet twist. I suggest you not let yourself get spoiled! It's smart well written and tense. Its one of those books that you keep thinking about well after the book is over, which is great. This book also has an unreliable narrator which I love!
Some of the things that I didn't love were the metaphors. Look. You already don't know whats going on enough in this book. Saying you were shot through the heart, when you actually weren't makes for a confusing start. I felt bogged down by some of the language because it was a bit too lyrical.
That being said, it's still a 5 star book for me. Because I really enjoyed it. I love the plot twist, and I really like being surprised by a book. ...more

So admittedly, I watched the movie first, then read the book. WHICH WAS A TERRIBLE LIFE CHOICE. But I really enjoyed both of these, book or movie. It just meant that I spoiled myself something terrible. I love a good formulaic mystery novel, and I love Odd as a charcter. This was so entertaining! I laughed out loud. I really enjoyed that Dean Koontz wasn't afriad to kill some characters and I really enjoyed the new and interesting concept of a Empathic Medium Private Eye. It was fun, funny and well written. Solid book, and I'm pretty sure I'll like the second book even more! ...more

Yes it is a bit formulaic, yes, ALL the MEN want to get with Kitty, but look, I love a good series, and I love this series a lot. Werewolves, Weretigers, bounty hunters. Honestly. Honestly. Honestly, this is so my jam. I don't have much more to say about this. If you haven't read the first Kitty Norvelle book, then you should. If you have read the first 3 then you should read this one next. It's a solid book I'm glad that I trudged through the first 2 to get to this one. ...more

That being said, this book wasn't as good Ok so, you should know that I am a rabid Veronica Mars Fan, and take this book review with a grain of salt. That being said, this book wasn't as good as the previous book. SAD FACES. I felt like the last book was whip smart, funny and banging great. This book was just not at the top of all of those categories. I think, what was missing the most was that this book was not as funny. Veronica should be funny. She is funny. Rob Thomas is funny. He didn't bring the funny with this book. That makes me sad.
He did play to his wheel house. Crimes against women? Check. Sassy detective? Check! Hot Navy Boyfriend? Check. Helpful friends from high school? Check! Danger, espionage thrill ride! Check Check check.
To be honest, I still want to be Veronica Mars when I grow up. I still love Logan, I want them to have angsty lurv all the time. I just *cant* with these characters. That being said. I hope that the next book in the series is up to par with the first. ...more

When I say rabid I mean, I don't want to hear what you have to say about this book, it's perfect. Or at least, I found it perfect, and if you think otherwise, just don't freaking talk to me. Shut up, you are wrong talk to someone else. This is one of those books. I loved it. Here's why.
If you've seen the Veronica Mars, shows, & movies, you've grown up with her. This book is a delightful, grown up crime novel. It picks up where the movie left off. I expected the book to be good, okay even. I didn't expect it to be great. I didn't expect the book to push boundaries, or bring in old friends, or even, be grown up like the people who love and know Veronica Mars. Hot Damn I love this book.
At the end of the year I'm going to give out awards. This booking going to get best use of swearing. God bless Rob Thomas. He has the best use of the word Fuck, or Shit, or any swear I've seen written. Some authors don't use it at all, and just say 'swore' others use it weirdly, and too much. But Rob uses it like, amazingly and so naturally. Sherif Lamb leaned over and intimidatingly swears in Veronica's face. I love it! yes!
I love the Logan Veronica ANGST! UGH! NO EPIC COCKBLOCKING. So much tease! I love all the things that make you love and hate neptune, the trouble that Veronica can get into, but, like, SO Much worse. cause she's on her own now being her own P.I. Grown up troubles, with like nakedness, and yikes, boobs and drugs, and things they couldn't show on the tv. Vmars grew up yall! It's seedy and delightful!
So many old faces came back Cliff, and Mack and many more.
The best part of this book is that it is Veronica Mars #1.
I'm a big Veronica Mars fan, but, look I'm a book fan first and foremost. If a book isn't good I wouldn't rate it high. I was expecting the book to be a fun jaunt into Neptune, I wasn't expecting it to be amaze-balls. Turns out I was wrong. Turns out, I can't wait till the next book. Yikes. I'm addicted ...more
