I enjoyed it, as the characters and their interactions were well written, and I loved the idea of the Briar Editions of collected works of unknown/underknown women writters. I would have liked to see more interaction with students, but other than that and the villian monologue, which was done well just the 'villian monologue' is over done in mysteries, IMO at least, this was a very fun story....more

This is a bit reminiscent of James Patterson in the pacing and short chapters, though the characters are a lot less likable. Stone is sometimes likable, and then two sentences later does something that makes him not likable. It's rather amusing to see how the rich half lives, and the reviews are not wrong- It's a soap opera. The writing is decent, and at least in this particular volume I did not see any obvious things that Stone and company should have picked up on that they did not. ...more

I did like the fact that Dixie was not a rookie detective, she had actually had training. I also liked the dynamic between her and her brother, as well as her and Phil. The only thing I was not a huge fan of was the way she kept keeping information from the cops, and it never really came back to bite her. Overall, a quick read without much depth, though there were a few places where it touched a bit deeper... about what you expect from these types of mysteries. ...more

He is also a bit softer about women, and some of the political incorrectness has been toned down. I rather liked For Your Eyes Only, Quantum Of Solace and The Hildebrand Rarity, as they were also a rather different tone than the Bond novels, while still being clearly Bond. From A View To Kill and Risico are both pretty standard, action packed Bond. Bond gets an assignment, goes there, drinks and eats well for a few days before, starts the assignment, finds a pretty girl, gets caught by the bad guy, gets hurt but wins in the end and then rides off with the pretty girl. This one shows its age a bit more, since this one has characters of color, or Negros as they are refereed to through out the book, and, excepting Mr. Big who is a stereotypical big bad, they are all rather stereotypical. This being said, Bond does not treat anyone who is innocent badly. It's a product of its time, but rather quaint at times....more
