I seem to remember the "cuddle party" being written about a few years ago in the context of harassment of women in tech, so it was nice to see that included. I initially loved the friendship between Asha, Cyrus, and Jules, and was interested in all three of them until the end. Asha's sister is one of the funniest characters I've read for a long time- every new mother can relate to her. The concept of WAI was reasonable and out there enough to be believable, and even the thought of something taking down Facebook was pretty cheering.
Well done, and much more amusing than I was expecting.
I received this as a courtesy through Netgalley in return for an honest review.

I would suggest watching a few episodes of Drag Race before reading, if you've never seen it. The author goes into quite a bit of detail about how various portions of the show are built on specific traditions/history/events of queer culture. Quite fascinating reading, and so interesting to learn how so much of RuPaul's show specifically builds on people/events/mythologies from the past century. ...more

I loved being thrown into different cultures that I didn't know much about, and I'm always a sucker for family conflict stories.
But it left me feeling a bit annoyed- everything gets wrapped up in a neat little bow, and valid cultural/political issues take second place to giving characters a happy ending. I hate it when a character in a novel makes a point about taking a moral stand on an issue, and then just gives it up because "lurvv". All of the (amazing, very strong women) in the novel get thrown a bone or two at the end and then everything's alright. I found it particularly distasteful that Margaret ends up doing exactly what her husband wants her to. I love Amish romances for a lot of different reasons, not the least of which is that it's a thin slice of a very odd life. Maybe that's what this author is attempint, so more power to her.
I'm so torn about this book- I enjoyed everything up until the part where (view spoiler)[she punches Fisher. Not because sh3 star, with reservations.
I'm so torn about this book- I enjoyed everything up until the part where (view spoiler)[she punches Fisher. Not because she's in any physical danger- because she's just pissed off at him. I hate that according to some people physical violence is just fine as long as it's a woman hurting a man. Imagine if Carlos had a vengeful ex who had threatened to ruin his life, and when she confronted him again angrily he punched her in the face and then bragged about it to Nik. That wouldn't even get past an editor, and it's a shame that this incident did. (hide spoiler)] So that made me sad- otherwise the book would have likely been a five for me. It's light and fluffy and cute with that one exception so I didn't want to give it a one, so I settled on 3....more

On the one hand it's a great fluffy, sexy romance- it's a quick read, and I didn't want to put it down. And on the other hand it was such a wonderful and hopeful book about the realities of some people's experience of autism, and we need more voices like that. She didn't downplay her heroine's challenges, but they also weren't the sum total of her life. I hope that this is the beginning of a trend. ...more
