The mystery of the disappearance of her sister, drove the heroine into a successful career in the FBI. Now that she's aware of the deep and dark worldThe mystery of the disappearance of her sister, drove the heroine into a successful career in the FBI. Now that she's aware of the deep and dark world of vampires and the fact that such a creature could be responsible has her abandoning the career and devoting her life to killing all vampires.
The hero has lives for 2 thousand years under the intense compulsion of the demon inside of him. Like an addiction, he's battled the cravings for evil acts every day of his life- sometimes succeeding, sometimes succumbing. But he's got a plan to control it now. He hunts the criminals of his world, rogue vampires who care nothing about humans. Though a very different beast lies within him and he's plague with guilt over what he's done, the fact that he fights it and tries to better himself speaks well of his inner goodness. That's what the heroine sees when she happens upon him. Though he's a creature she despises, the beast that murdered her sister (or so she soon finds out), she knows that inside he's a good man. And the desire to show her that he can be the man she needs him to be drives him into holding the darkness at bay. When she's near him the demon is quiet. He's drawn to her and deeply as she is to him and despite everything going against them they develop a relationship but everything comes crumbling down when they realize that he's the vampire she's been hunting all along.
I loved this story but I felt like there was a strange disconnect. I didn't believe that the heroine whose hatred for vampires ran so deep could give up that hatred so quickly for the most dangerous vampire she's ever met. Just because he saves her, and just because he doesn't immediately lunge for her throat should not dictate that he's safe to be around. The hero himself admits plainly just how close she is to danger but she never truly develops any fear for him. But the major problem I had with the relationship between the characters was the fact that the barely spend 5 minutes in each other’s company for the first few encounters yet they are so attached to one another. I didn't believe that two so completely on opposite teams could fall for the other so quickly. This story had all the right elements and I did enjoy reading it but there was also doubt in the back of my mind whether it was a 'great' story. In the end, I just found it to be lacking in that certain something. So a 3 star rating is fair enough. ...more

She's just finished wrapping a story on the most heinous serial killer of modern time and having to spend time in that man's head and in his presence was enough to prove to her that evil does exist. When her cousin comes to her spouting words of evil and a vigilante group set out to stop it, she in on board for another story. The report inside her would never turn down the opportunity to excel her career. However, when this little group her cousin and father are involved in turns out to be a supernatural hunting party, she scoffs at the idea. Demons, werewolves, vampires. All of these are myth, so why are these people- including her own family- so absolutely positive that the creatures they are hunting are creatures of the night?
When Doyle first laid eyes on the beautiful woman taking apart of the group he's undercover to stop, he is struck dumb by his immediate and intense attraction to her. And when he finds out she's level headed and not bloodthirsty for the deaths of innocent werewolves, he finds himself smitten. Sure, he's a demon who feeds on the souls of willing donors, sure she possesses the eyes of the one woman he imagined himself in love with before she turned her back on him and killed herself rather than accept him as her is but there's just something about her that has captured him.
The group are hellbent to eradicate the supernatural of the world and it's Doyle's job to stop it. He never counted on suddenly finding himself bound to protect a human but when things turn south he knows he'll do everything in his power to keep her safe. Even if she finds out what he is- even if she ends up hating him.
I enjoyed this book immensely. From the characters to the plot, I was hooked. Sure, the plot and the romance of the main characters did feel sped up and I could have done with a bit more time for things to develop but overall this wasn't enough of a flaw to change my opinion that this was a great novel.
We'll start with Andy. A reporter whose level headed. A woman who never rushes to conclusions and when new facts come to light, she's someone who takes a breath, lets them sink in and then forms her opinion or her next move. I can't tell you how refreshing it it to read about a female lead who actually listens to reason and doesn't overreact or behave like a bimbo.
Doyle was a warm character when it came to Andy and he always treated her with care and respect. Sure, he had a temper but he was a good person at heart and everything he did was to protect others, even at the cost of his own safety or health. I enjoyed that he was also described as a not traditionally handsome male but rugged and rough around the edges.
A great book from start to finish. Unique world, fantastic characters and character ...more
Cursed to never feel the touch of another unless during the blue moon, the heroine’s life has been a constant struggle between loneliness and fear thaCursed to never feel the touch of another unless during the blue moon, the heroine’s life has been a constant struggle between loneliness and fear that she will infect another soul. Sheltered in her little prison of longing desperately for the life that's been stripped from her, she has searched many years for a cure and has so far failed. Now, it appears her struggles are soon to be over as she finds herself the prisoner of the Alliance, sentenced to death because they fear her curse and what it befalls those it touches. She doesn't want to die, not when she has not even had the chance to live. But just when she thinks the end has arrived, she is rescued.
The hero, her lawyer through the whole trial has decided to spring her fear and though she knows he only does it save to save the life of his friend- the friend she has unfortunately cursed and turned into a beast- she is neither the less pleased with her second chance. It's not a clean get away and very nearly they are both caught by the guard but thankfully, the hero is able to change them both to mist and suddenly the heroine is free. But she is still hunted by the Alliance who fear that she will somehow bring about their destruction as prophesized. Her only friend is the hero, a sexy and very intelligent man who will do anything to save his friend. He is a kind man but a man who has lived a very long time and who does not do well with commitment. Not that he imagines the heroine will be anything other than a means to an end. But he does admire her greatly and feel a good deal of sympathy towards her. It's not her fault she's been cursed and she handles her predicament with grace and a grain of salt considering. He does not pity her, she's far too strong for that but he can sense the loneliness inside her. Someone she has managed to draw him closer to any female since the betrayal of his previous love.
Though they cannot touch, they bond in both mist form as well as friendship. And that leads to the anticipation of the blue moon and the heroine’s chance to finally experience the tenderness of a man. But though they may share one night together, the guilt the heroines feels is overwhelming. She knows she can save his friend if she dies and though it scares her, she can no longer live with herself knowing she is cause of so much pain and heartache. But the hero is not willing to have her surrender herself. He will find a way to break the curse and god help anyone who means to stand in his way.
A whole lot of this book is spent on the POV of characters who are not the main focus. As such, the hero and heroines’ story, while sweet and certainly enjoyable, was rushed and left me feeling rather incomplete. I understood the draw they had to one another, I recognized the bonding and the connection between them that started off as respect and turned to love. However, not nearly enough time was spent on exploring this connection. It was just sort of tossed into the mix that the hero was so damn attracted to the little woman whose touch created monsters. He was a rather muted character who had the potential of being a stand out hero but never really rose to the challenge. He was a womanizer. He was extremely smart and extremely loyal to the few friends he had. And though he started out needing the heroine for his friends save, he almost immediately found himself caring for a great deal and debating within himself in regards to his evolved motives for keeping her safe. The heroine was a woman who struggled to maintain understanding for what her life is to be. She didn't want this curse and needed to find a cure but she also needed to find a way to live with it for the time being. Too bad the wait for the cure has taken 22 years and, in that span, she has been forced to cope with what the curse requires of her. Seclusion, constant fear and a great deal of guilt. To her, the hero is a source of anticipation and a light at the end of the tunnel. He saved her, is keeping her safe and away from those who hunt her and he is also sweet to her and kind even though sometimes she can be a bitch, especially when she's scared or feeling particularly vulnerable- doubting that any future for herself could be bright or happy. I didn't get swept away by this book and overall, I can say I was a bit disappointed with the final result. Just too rushed and busy for my tastes. ...more

Her father was murdered when she was a young girl but the one responsible was never convicted. This oversight in the otherwise all power system has managed to put a sliver of doubt in the heroine's beliefs but she repressing it deep down. Her talent and achievements have caught the eyes of a very secretive, very private division on homeland security and she's been promoted to high level clearance. There, she comes face to face with everything said to only exist in nightmares- vampires, demons, werewolves, all of them real. Her nature psychic shield blocking others from reading her thoughts have granted her employment as a prosecutor for beings she has no idea how to deal with. But once the shock wears off, she realizes this opportunity is exciting and instead of being frightened, she's pleased with the intrigue and the mystery unfolding around her. But her first case is a major blow to both her hopes and dreams and also her self-awareness.
There sitting before her is the man she's to convict for murder. A man whom she spent one magic night in her apartment with after meeting him in a bar. A man who connected to her so far deeper than just sex. She's hurt and furious that she could have misjudged this man so fully and when she listens to his charges and sees the undeniable proof he did what he's accused of, she vows to see him rot in prison. Yet she can't help herself from still being attracted to him. And when she learns that convicted murders aren't imprisoned but killed, she feels a sudden and unsettling regret. She doesn't want to see this beautiful and intense man dead but how can she let him get away with his crimes? Everything she stands for denies the justice of vitalities and the man may scramble everything in her mind but she holds on desperately to that belief.
The hero is a killer, he doesn't deny that. But most of his kills are sanctioned. This one was not. This one was done for revenge and for the love of a vulnerable girl whom he's responsible for. To save her from prying eyes, he covers up the crime and plants the evidence, takes the fall and waits to be released from prison. He does have his connections after all and though things are serious he knows he's be freed eventually. He didn't count on seeing this lovely woman again and especially not on the opposite side of the courtroom but he's help himself from longing for her. He knows she's good at her job but she sees things in black and white-good and bad. Things aren't that simple. He knows he holds a special place in her heart and he presses that for a chance to be close to her again. When his ward goes missing he is enraged and worried sick, the heroine is right there asking how she can help him and offering him words of comfort.
When the heroine is plagued by fear and guilt that the man she convicted for murder gets loose and starts a killing spree, the hero is right there to comfort her. The heroine stands for justice and believe in the system but she can't allow a man who acted solely for the love of another be killed only to win her first case. And she can't allow a man who means so much to her be taken away.
I liked this book to an extent but I thought the main focus was on the plot and therefore the romance department was severely lacking. The main characters spent barely 5 minutes in each other’s company for the first half of the book and then when they got together, the love didn't develop, it was already there. Very little character development as well. The heroine started off condemning the hero's vigilante style and she finished feeling the same why. Regardless of the fact that this man killed her fathers murdered, she still made it clear she didn't believe what he did was right. I didn't like that about her. Yes, she could love the man but she was ignorant of the success of the law. Of course, it's not perfect and her blind devotion that the courts would get it right is silly, especially in the new world of the paranormal. Hell, the fact that the hero hasn't been convicted of all the killings he actually did should be reason enough to see that it depends on who you know not your innocence. In turn, the hero was still a killer. He believed in destroying the bad men because it's the right thing to do. He refused to leave their fate in the hands of pompous idiots-the heroine excluded. Over all, there were just too many storylines crossing to commit fully the one in particular. ...more
