Jasmine es perfecta protagonista. Es testaruda, malhablada, imperfecta, real. Está amargada al principio y hace mucha introspección que se hace algo repetitiva, que era la razón por la que le había bajado una estrella originalmente pero que he perdonado al final.
Ivan… qué decir de Ivan, el novio de hielo, el boyfriend material definitivo, el crush de los crushes, p*to Ivan, rendida a sus pies.

Es cierto que alguna escena es un poco rara. Arrugas la nariz pensando «¿pero de verdad esto de hacerse fotos en pelotas pasa en la vida real?» pero como son tan geniales cuando se tiran los trastos a la cabeza lo perdonas, porque quieres leer más.

Luego hay trama, que honestamente, ¡es interesante! Me gusta la mitología que la autora ha creado pero LO QUE ES IMPERDONABLE es que un polvo dure lo mismo que la conversación super importante con personaje clave del que llevan hablando dos libros enteros. La mezcla entre vampirismo, dioses mitológicos y criaturas mágicas me parece genial pero desgraciadamente Armentrout no es muy buena describiendo sus ambientes. Se me quedan cortas las descripciones y para que YO me queje de ESO es que son realmente escuetas.
Poppy no me cae mal pero tampoco me acaba de caer bien. El marido se ha vuelto un poco babosete. Larga vida a Kieran el hombrelobo sujetavelas que es el alma de esta novela.

Amo que sea cinco años menor que la protagonista, que sea tan blando y tan natural. No todo tiene que ser tipos duros engreídos ni el típico personaje byroniano (que me encanta, ojo, no confundir). * La diversidad es natural. * Me ha hecho reír de verdad en alguna ocasión, y no solamente una risita complaciente.
Reconozco que lo empecé una vez y lo dejé porque las primeras páginas... uh, me abrumó un poco lo del tema de la radio con su jerga y sus cosas, pero me alegro infinitamente de haberle dado una oportunidad. Quizá no es la novela romántica que más me haya volado la cabeza pero al César lo que es del César.

Por otro lado, las amigas de la protagonista son odiosas y hablar de temas tan importantes a la ligera las hace parecer superfluas y demasiado estudiadas como para ser realistas.

Sentía que estaba leyendo algo carca, pasado de moda, de una sociedad que no es la actual, de mujeres que vivían en los 90 o antes, con la nariz arrugada y fingida comprensión.

Las opiniones sobre obstetricia de Cristina Campos sumado a una investigación un poco deficiente también me ha dolido. He estado a punto de darle una estrella por eso, pero está bien escrito, aunque sus opiniones manidas sigan pesando, aunque todo transcurra demasiado lento y, después, demasiado rápido. Aunque sus protagonistas sean puros clichés de mujeres casadas de hace veinte años, mujeres atrapadas por los convencionalismos sociales que poco a poco creo que generaciones venideras hemos ido venciendo.

No le he encontrado la gracia a esta novela. Está medianamente bien escrita y la historia real del libro poco tiene que ver con Agatha Christie. La autora se ha agarrado a un clavo ardiendo y ha puesto en boca de personas que existieron de verdad una ficción que ella quería contar, porque sí, sin más. Con personajes ficticios probablemente me hubiera funcionado mejor.
El tema real del libro no es Agatha Christie (que como personaje no le hace ningún favor a la auténtica Agatha Christie), sino el «robo» de niños en Irlanda a principios del siglo XX. Un tema muy noble que ha intentado mezclar, sin demasiado acierto, con un asesinato en un hotel como si de una novela de la homenajeada se tratara. La pena es que pasa tan desapercibido que el misterio es poco, ya que la narradora, la amante del marido de la escritora, es un poco… intensa. No me ha caído en gracia a pesar de sus desgracias.

La premisa es INCREÍBLE. De verdad, me ha gustado un montón y está bien ejecutada. La trama tiene el potencial para crear una novela oscura, rozando el terror, peeeero… la autora decidió escribir una novela juvenil.
Eso no es ningún problema pero confieso que cuando empecé a leer el libro sabía la premisa inicial, no que también tenía ciertos tintes de coming of age que ya me cansan un poco porque soy muy vieja y ya no me sorprende.
La oscuridad de la historia se ve rebajada por una protagonista de 17 años que hubiera funcionado igual con 25 o 33, ya que no es realmente relevante para la historia principal. Hubiera sido una historia redonda si hubiera decidido ir por el camino de la historia familiar retorcida en todos los sentidos, aunque es muy buena haciendo el balance entre la juvenil y el «terror». Hace un quince años sé que me hubiera gustado mucho.

Que va con lo que quiera escribir la persona.
Pues vale: tenían razón. (Tampoco había achacado la violencia de los libros de los Mola a que fueran hombres, sí en cambio en sus descripciones de mujeres, pero eso es otro temita aparte).
Las cosas que perdimos en el fuego es un conjunto de doce cuentos a cada cual... peor. No peor en el sentido de que sean malos, porque son buenísimos, algunos diría brillantes. Pero me han dejado con mal cuerpecito.
Me gustan mucho las historias de terror y hace mucho tiempo que el terror clásico no me dice nada. Enríquez abraza un tipo de miedo... real. Muchas de las cosas sobre las que escribe ocurren en el día a día. Otras no, pero sabe regalarles la dosis de realismo que te deja un escalofrío.
En estos relatos se habla de la depresión, de los trastornos de la alimentación, de la pobreza, de la santería, de los abusos sexuales y la violencia doméstica, por mencionar unos pocos.
Los que más me han sorprendido: Pablito clavó un Clavito, Fin de Curso, Nada de Carne sobre Nosotras, El Patio del Vecino, Bajo el Agua Negra y Las cosas que perdimos en el fuego. Estos dos últimos especialmente.

De verdad: es un thriller muy, muy, muy sencillo.
Es entretenido, pero carece de la emoción típica de la novela negra. La escritora será fan de las scape room y está escrito como si la casa que hereda fuera una gymkana, de esa manera es imposible saber quién es el culpable y si la mató en la cocina o en el comedor y si usó el candelabro o la pistola porque no hay pistas de ese tipo. El misterio es una sucesión de pruebas a las que se enfrentan los protagonistas y poco más. Un Scape Room, vaya.
Pero insisto: hay que ser muy corto para no darse cuenta desde el principio cuál va a ser el motivo final de todo esto.
Aún así no puedo negar que esté entretenido. Los capítulos son muy cortos y se lee deprisa. La protagonista no está mal y los personajes secundarios tienen un pase, aunque intenta vendernos un triángulo amoroso que no funciona, o al menos, a mí no me lo parece. Por suerte, no es el tema central de la historia aunque estoy segura que lo explotará hasta el infinito en los siguientes volúmenes de esta novela que, honestamente, no siento la necesidad imperiosa de leer aunque no pasará nada si al final lo hago por entretenerme....more

KJ Charles writes nicely and her characters are well constructed. I would say this is a grumpy/sunshine kind of romance more than an enemies to lovers I’ve seen this story catalogued into. Robin is such a sweetheart. ♥️
