It sounded super adorable and basically every fan fiction writer's dream--meeting the person you idolized enough to write fan fiction about. It could almost be said that it was a fan fiction about a fan fiction at this point. With that being said, if you don't like fan fiction or you're simply over fan fiction, this book isn't for you. There's a lot of inserts of fan fics, scripts, texting , and fan references that you may not get! Or it'll just be a total 'whatever...moving on' moment for you when you come to it. And if you're like me who listened to the audiobook, it'll be super confusing.
So is this a 'ME THING' versus a book thing? It definitely could be. I enjoyed the body positivity rep, the insecurities each character dealt with, and everything that is said in this book to raise awareness but overall--could not care about this couple or the romance. I found the writing very choppy but whimsical and explained instead of showing me....more

The book was way too long and dragged for the first half. Super slow burn and had all the Historical Romance elements I loved PLUS feminism stance and strong female characters who are literally trying to make the country a better one. How could I hate it? I just took a star off cause SHE'S SO STUBBORN AND IT MADE ME SO ANNOYED THAT SHE WAS SO AFRAID OF REALIZING HER EMOTIONS AND BEING SILLY ABOUT IT PLUS it was slow in the beginning and I was yawning....more

This is a love story between two very broken individuals. One is a fiction writer who searches for the dark unsettling things and pours his gut-wrenching words into literary fiction and the other chooses happiness and sunshine, writing romance novels for those who seek an escape. They both have complicated pasts. He grew up with an abusive father and felt he was missing a piece of him because of the events that happened in his adulthood. She grew up in a loving family that turned out to have secrets buried deeper than her father's casket.
Do not be fooled by the title or genre! Do not think that this will be your 'light beach read' you crave by the pool because this book will tear you apart, only to put you back together again. It was funny. So funny. I laughed so many times at their sarcastic remarks. I really loved the soft slow burn romance between them as these two people worked alongside each other, falling slowly in love, but deathly afraid of it because they knew what they had was magnified ten times of what they experienced and they weren't sure if they would live on if they didn't work out.
It's not your perfect romance. It's filled with two broken people finding happiness with each other. It's ironically a combonation of what they both wrote. A realistic story but filled with a romance plot. I really recommend this but I'm scared some people might walk in and think one thing and being disappointed because of the marketing of the book...more
I really liked the idea is this one because it takes place in France, Italy, and Scotland and j just loved the settings so much. I have to take a starI really liked the idea is this one because it takes place in France, Italy, and Scotland and j just loved the settings so much. I have to take a star off because I did not like our main female oc. She was dealing with grief over her mother's passing but she became almost childish when she saw people were falling in love etc. She also ran away for silly reasons and left me frustrated.
However, I love the office romance trope plus the enemies to lovers trope. It was so freaking cute at a lot of times....more

I absolutely adored Waiting for Tom Hanks so when I was contacted to review the second book in the series, I jumped at the chance. Waiting for Tom Hanks was definitely a book that fell between you either loved it and it's rom-com goodness or you hated it because it was too dramatic a lot of the times. I fell into the category of loving it but I can't help but feel Not Like the Movies will have the same impact. Unfortunately, I did not like this one.
It started out brilliantly. This book follows the relationship of Chloe and Nick after Annie's movie is auctioned off and the trailer comes out. Chloe and Nick are constantly hounded by people and the media because the movie is so popular from the trailer and they just needed to know if this was the couple that the movie was loosely based off of??? We get to learn more about Chloe's life and how hard she works to juggle everything. She has a father suffering dementia, a brother who left her to handle everything on her own, a business degree that still needs finishing, and pies to bake for Annie's wedding. What she really doesn't need is to think about Nick!
What Nick really needs is to not have someone toy with his emotions. And that's exactly why I didn't appreciate this novel. I had major issues with Chloe's inability to make decisions on pursuing her love-life and hurting someone in the process. Yes, she's not selfish because she spreads herself too thinly and helps everyone as much as she can. But when she finally decides to be selfish, she decides to string Nick along and make him believe that she's in 100% when really, she's just there for a quick lust session. It broke my heart when I saw Nick so hurt by it.
What I did like was the representation. We had someone who was taking care of a loved one with a debilitating disease, we had a gay brother, we had a bisexual main female character, and so much more. I also really liked the banter Chloe and Nick shared. And of course, the sexual tension....more

A lot of events just happen for steam factor and while it's cute, it's not 100% believable. I also didn't enjoy the ending as much as I wanted because of how the trope was handled. I enjoyed the asian-american rep in this book, family relationships, and issues both characters had to go through. It's still a good read!
