Greek Mythology ✨Persephone and Hades Retelling ✨
The Shadow Lord picks right up where The Spring Maiden ended. Penny has to overcome a bit in the beginning, but in doing so she grows so much. Her character development, along with Lou’s is leaps and bounds compared to the last installment. We get to know them better, along with their strengths and weaknesses. I enjoyed getting to know new characters, and seeing the slow burn romance take off finally. Being in a new setting, gave a completely different feel for this installment and added more intrigue. It ends on a shocking cliffhanger, so I will definitely be reading the next book! ...more

“You’re a light in the dark, Penelope. I’ll always see you through the shadows.”
The Spring Maiden was infused with Greek mythology, magic, life lessons and Faeries. It was a clean spin/retelling of Hades and Persephone. The writing was great, and I liked most of the characters. I didn’t realize this was a retelling until I was done reading it ...more

“ A joyful heart makes a cheerful face, but when the heart is sad, the spirit is broken. “
Not quite sure if I have ever read an Amish book before, I think this was my first. This caught my eye for free on audible- I enjoy a good retelling. It being Belle, with her love of books, was the icing on the cake. I was pleasantly surprised by this one. I think the author did a fantastic job retelling this from an Amish point of view. I wasn’t sure how it would work but she did it! Very heartwarming and sweet! ...more

This was a fun, quick and clean read. I really enjoyed it! In the beginning the names kinda confused me, so it took a minute to understand who was who. Once I got a hang of them, it was smooth sailing and enjoyable. It was such a quick read that I feel like more depth could have been added to the story- but for what it was, I can’t complain. ...more

I grabbed this one on a whim, wanting something easy and light… what I wasn’t expecting, was to love it so very much! I stayed up entirely too late binge reading it, I couldn’t put it down! I just adored Alyssa the main character- her personality and character was like a breath of fresh air. She was honest, loyal and such a great friend. Being a homeschooling mama, reading how Alyssa told stories to the twins to teach them humility and decorum made my heart happy. She will probably go on my list of favorite female characters. Her relationship with Prince Max grew organically and it was so endearing ...more

A Gilded Age Cinderella story...of sorts. When Eliza Chapman, a London ladies maid, learns that Ward Redfield, one of the richest, most successful men in New York City is also her father, her whole world changes.
This was my first book by this author. I came across it on hoopla as a free borrow for the month of November. The blurb sounded interesting enough, especially with references to Cinderella (I love a good retelling) so I gave it a go. While I enjoyed reading it, I did find it to be lacking that special something - it just seemed to be an ok read, it moved at a steady pace but just when I felt like it was about to take off, it never would. The characters we likable, but nothing really stood out about them. There were a few instances that made it seem like a Cinderella retelling but not enough for me to call it one. Decent read but not my favorite :/...more

“Perhaps it does, perhaps it doesn’t. That’s the funny thing about paths; you can’t see where they lead unless you walk them.”
Abandoned by her father at a young age, Eileen has decided never to fall in love. She never wants to put herself in the position of being in that much pain ever again. The enchanted forest near her house, a place she goes to seek solace, has different plans for her though. Each time she enters the forest, the pathways switch, causing her to never take the same path twice. One day it leads her to a mysterious stranger, where her vow to never love becomes increasingly unavoidable.
I really enjoyed Pathways. It was my first book by this author and I feel she did an excellent job of keeping me interested in the story. She supposedly used bits and pieces from the stories Rumpelstiltskin and The Princess and the Pea- I guess there were a few instances that seemed familiar, but for the most part- this read like an original story to me. I would recommend if looking for an easy clean fairytale retelling you could read in one sitting. Looking forward to reading more from this author. ...more

Bluebeard and the Outlaw was a cute and fun read. It’s book three in the Villains Ever After series, which is a series filled with a bunch of retellings written by several different authors. You do not have to read them in order- they are all different.
The spin with the Fae curse, the author put on the original Robin Hood/ Blackbeard story, was unique and fast paced. It was also a quick read you can read in one sitting. I listened to the audiobook (5 hours) and the narrator did a great job. If you’re looking for a clean/feel good retelling - would recommend. ...more

The World God Made by Hannah Anderson was a beautiful retelling of Psalm 104. Full of beautiful and detailed illustrations to keep kids engaged. I read this with my daughter she loves helping me review books like this. Her favorite part was how lyrical it read. Each page had a rhyming parallel to the psalm and she really enjoyed guessing which word the phrase would end on.
This short book covers basic things from creation like the sky, animals, plants, oceans, wind etc. It definitely introduces questions the child might have about certain things with its vocabulary. It’s also cool to read through this for a story/Bible time and then go to Psalm 104 and read the original from different translations. Our favorite illustration was the Aurora Borealis towards the end. Both my daughter and I would recommend.

A very different and interesting twist on the classic fairytale Cinderella. It’s unlike any version I’ve ever read. It’s dark and mysterious with a thriller and suspense filled vibe. Very quick and action packed read, I’m glad I didn’t listen to the negative reviews and gave this a go- it really surprised me it’s unlike any retelling I’ve ever read and deserves way more props just for the simple fact that it’s so unique. I wish it would have been longer because this world was fascinating, and would have enjoyed more from it. I highly suggest instead of listening to the reviews you make your own judgement and read it for yourself- it’s definitely not the typical Disney version it’s so much more and was full of potential. ...more
