Grace Emerson, history teacher at Manning Academy private school in Connecticut and proud mommy to her feisty little Highland Terrier Angus, gets dumped by her Fiancé a few weeks before their wedding. Not only that, but he's moved on with none other than her beautiful, perfect baby sister, Natalie. At first this premise left me enraged, I mean seriously, what kind of sister would do that, and what kind of doormat would allow it! Throughout the whole book this annoyed me, especially no one sticking up for Grace, except for Margaret her older sister, everyone else in the family treats Natalie like a princess, as though being with her sisters ex fiancé is no problem at all. Grace has a habit of making up pretend boyfriends as a coping mechanism, her most recent one, Wyatt Dunn MD, being created to ease the blow of her sister and exes relationship, ends up ruining an actual chance at real love with her hot next door neighbor, Callahan O'Shea. Whom also happens to be an ex-con, that she called the police on the first night she sees him "attempting a break in" and hitting him with a lacrosse stick. Throughout a string of comical run ins between Grace and Cal, a few cringe worthy dates via eCommitments, awkward and hysterical family gatherings, this book makes for quite an enjoyable read, especially when Grace FINALLY makes a move on Cal, sigh he is soo sweet I loved his character. It has a very surprising and happy ending! I couldn't put this down, withstanding the varying comments from my SO when I was laughing loudly or tearing up and look forward to reading more from this author. ...more
