I mean just look at the cover of this one, adorable. The cover alone will draw you to it, and the story........ The story is so much fun, warm, Christmasy, and full of delectable food, yums! Please don't read it on an empty stomach though it just may lead to raids of the pantry and cookie baking at midnight while your being tempted by the delicious food descriptions! The character interaction was great as the story really flowed. Recommended for a delightful holiday read! In a previous book she left the school she and her friends went to for the highly intelligent. There was a hole in the fence and her she and her friends were able to sneak off to town unknown to the staff and experience life a bit since no socializing with boys was allowed at the school. These teens may have had superior intelligence to even adults but had the common sense of regular teens. A must read if you are a fan of V.C. Andrew books. This is the second in the War of 1812I was eagerly looking forward to reading, The Shipbuilder's Wife. I mean look at that cover, very eye appealing. This is the second in the War of 1812 Series. A young flirtatious woman full of self confidence she is sure an engagement is coming her way the night of her parent's garden party. Sadly this engagement is short lived after a surprise attack from the British while hiding in a shed with her lady's maid. Beauty is only skin deep or is it? A disfiguring wound to Lydia Prescott leaves her a shell of the woman she was especially when her fiancee drops her like a hot potato after her disfigurement. With a war raging around them the man she so briefly meets, Jacob may just be her saving grace. I enjoyed reading the historical aspect of the this time period and enjoyed meeting back up with characters in the first book in the series. I hope the series continues with some more of the minor characters and they get their own stories. A nor'easter blows in on Martha's Vineyard but 51 year old Annie Sutton has her cozy rented cottage on Chappaquiddick and is satisfied making natural soaps with herbs she grows and finishing her latest book. A newcomer to the area the locals warm up to her and most of the people are off the island for winter. Only the diehards or is it the foolish that stay behind for an island winter. Living alone can be charming but a bit daunting since the island is minimally lit at night. What's beyond your porch light area, well who really knows and it's gets dark so early in winter. Relaxing one evening while a nor'easter is hitting Annie hears a scuffling on her porch and a soft mewing sound. Thinking it's an animal she goes out to help it only to be greeted by a basket with a baby on her porch. This childless woman doesn't know what to do, the island is impassible with the snow,so she brings it in only to find a note saying the mother would be back in a few days. Very intriguing book that really kept my attention. I read an excerpt from the author's next book releasing in July 2019 and I can't wait to read it. I will now look to see what else this previously unknown to me author has written. Great book! It's pretty evident with Roseanna's very detailed descriptions and obviously many hours of research she loves what she does. By this I mean she loves to research her books and writing them for us and her quality of work really reflects this. You better believe I felt as if I was there in the early 1910's in England. Barclay, it's so exciting to see him get his own story now, it was everything I had hoped it would be and more! Of the siblings he is my favorite. As you read this book you an just feel it humming with energy through the well developed story line, the many twists and turns. I really enjoyed seeing the character development as well. Barclay is a sweetie in this book, older protective brother but yet keeps his siblings in line as well. I am really hoping to see some of the siblings have their own story, maybe even a novella would be great. I enjoyed all the action happening in this story and the suspense. I kept me reading but I am sad now that it is over. Isn't that how great books work, you want to race to the end devouring the great book but are sad it's ending. I highly recommend the whole series! I have really learned a lot about the Amish culture through her books and have come away with a stronger faith base as well. Her books have just gotten better and better over the years. There are very few books I've not read of hers including her nonfiction ones. This book starts out with Maggie reminiscing about her younger years. There is for sure a lot going on in this book. Maggie has juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and it affects her strength and how much she is able to do to help the family. She is about to join the church and longs for marriage and a family of her own but surely no one will want her with her limited mobility. Maggie's father remarries shortly after his wife's death and his new wife puts all her hopes and dreams aside to please her new ready-made family as she keeps the memory alive of his past wife. It was fun to read about the big tent revivals that Maggie and some of her cousins go to. These revivals become very important to her despite her father not approving of her going. Will this cause her to become part of the Englisher world? Very sweet and enjoyable book with a strong faith filled message. It was a delight to see how much stronger Maggie's faith became during the book as she thirsted for spiritual food. Every Christmas season I look forward to Melody's newest holiday Even though this is only a novella length book at 167 pages it truly packs a wallop. Every Christmas season I look forward to Melody's newest holiday read and for a small book it's packed to the brim with fabulous stuff! Melody weaves together a tale of what it really means to be at home no matter where you are. Wendy and her son are struggling financially after her husband died several years ago and inheriting her grandparents beach house is a true blessing. Planning on fixing it and quickly selling it and moving back to Ohio she doesn't plan on her son,Jackson falling in love with the house and area. She puts off telling him she plans on selling because he feels so happy there and she doesn't want to ruin it for him. Jackson, a very helpful and mature teen though and I do believe he knew what was going on the whole time. What could be better than spending the holiday season in a gorgeous beach town that feels like home and the bonus of a new possible romance for Wendy. A friendly and slobbery dog rounds out the picture but will Wendy be able to financially support her small family with the crafts she makes or will she and her heartbroken son have to return to Ohio? Beautiful story about spiritual and personal growth. Pub Date 04 Sep 2018 Thank you to Revell for a complimentary copy through Netgalley. All opinions expressed are my own....more

Jane's newest book, Everything She Didn't say is based upon the life of Carrie Strahorn, a woman who travels around with her husband as he writes articles in hope of bringing people out west to the towns he builds up by way of the Union Pacific Railroad. You'll read about the things, Carrie can never share with her husband, her inner most thoughts, her hopes, dreams, the highs and lows. It's not easy to not have a permanent home always moving around with her husband's work but she did it, just like she gave up her dreams to make him happy. Standing in breadlines daily is common and fills the community people with shame. The children back then were much more mature and understanding of their situation than the children today. They understood they wouldn't get anything for Christmas because of their parent's poverty and accepted it without complaint. Sad but true fact. The author really sets the tone of the story line realistically. No one likes to see poor children doing without. It's very hard on our hearts but it's not all sad, things do pick up. Even though these people are dirt poor if their neighbor is sick or lonely they are there for them, their neighbor needs food they share what little they have with each other. Very heartwarming to see that their dire situation did not turn them bitter or against each other. Very good story I could see rereading in the future. I have read many Kim Vogel Sawyer books over the years and I do believe this is her most powerful one to date. There is quite a bit going on in this book. There is a strong friendship bond between two women since childhood, one an Old Order Mennonite woman and the other a take charge of the board meeting, know her own mind woman. What an unlikely friendship but it works for them. Each woman in life is dealt a devastating blow through some very bad news. Through this they are there to prop each other up and and give the other the support they need. This book has a lot of layers and depth and each character has a purpose in God's eye's . We get to know each character very well and spend a lot of time with them. This book really has the good feelings in it and really makes you appreciate what you have and who you have in your day to day life. I loved seeing the spiritual reawakening in the characters. Sawyer deals with some pretty tough subjects here but they are subjects that need talked about in our society, like sexual predators and homelessness. She covers these subjects in a respectful way and there is information in the back of the book telling you how you can get involved to help. Reader Guide included in the back of the book. Sure I've heard of slavery back in the 1800's but this book is so much more than that. Author Timothy Ballard is a phenomenal man. He founded nonprofit Operation Underground Railroad to save children from sex slavery all over the world. He is a former Special Agent for the Department of Homeland Security who has seen the horrors and carnage of war. Told in riveting alternating chapters from the 1800's slavery to modern-day eyewitness account of Timothy Ballard. This was a hard book to read, details were not glossed over and you got the straight up truth of how things happened, the abuse, terror and trafficking that goes on in third world countries. It is common in Haiti and police turn a blind eye to it. This compassionate man relied on strength, empathy and courage to do his job. We have come a long way in our fight against sexual trafficking but have such a long way to go. Heart wrenching read ! Are we as society really making progress when things like this are still flourishing? I recommend if you are a history buff that you read this and educate yourself.
