Unlike most reviewers who foundI really liked this book, and I was surprised by how much I did. We can all find a little bit of ourselves in Eleanor. Unlike most reviewers who found this book funny, I found myself a little heartbroken for her the entire time. This book shares some powerful lessons on trauma, grief, mental health, friendship, and love. No part of this book was over done, or too much. I appreciated Honeyman’s delicacy in dealing with mental health and trauma. A fantastic read that I plowed through.
Pro tip: read this with a highlighter so you can go back and reference new words you may not know. Eleanor’s vocabulary is vast!...more

It is one of those classic YA novels where you in that cheesy, easy, uncomplicated, and beautiful way that only comes from being young. It was nice to see my old favorite characters experience their summer vacations again. Very glad I picked this back up and would recommend to anyone wanting to feel the sensation of falling in love in the most innocent way. ...more

Despite a little bit of a predictable ending (though let’s be honest, who doesn’t like that from time to time?), I ate this book up. My pulse quickened as I went back and forth from Eve to Charlotte’s perspective. The realities of war and the tensions it brought will raise your blood pressure. The strength of the female protagonists often made me question MY strength as a woman - I mean my God, it is unthinkable to wrap my mind around these events taking place within the last 100 years! A story of war, the strength of female relationships, love, loss, and triumph. A beautiful read. ...more
**spoiler alert** I did enjoy this book and I can see why Donna Tratt was subsequently awarded the Pulitzer. However, in my personal opinion this book**spoiler alert** I did enjoy this book and I can see why Donna Tratt was subsequently awarded the Pulitzer. However, in my personal opinion this book was a bit too detailed and long winded. I think the root cause of me feeling this way was my inability to connect with Theo; I simultaneously pitied and disliked him. The text is rich with detail so you really do grasp his feeling, situation, and point of view. Because he as the main character was constantly in a - shall we say - less than positive point of view, I felt it rub off on me. I felt irritated, hopeless, and sedated at times, just as Theo had been for much of this novel. All this to say: I enjoyed the book and I am happy I read it for all of the reasons I disliked it. I was wholly out of my comfort zone and learned so much as a result. Which, in a weird way, is the central theme of this book. Would highly recommend, but would caution the reader to practice patience. This book is a marathon, not a sprint. ...more
