The narrator was fine, but maybe the pacing was off for me…it seemed as though he accepted being dead readily enough, but nothing was happening while a lot was happening at the same time without moving the story ahead. It took 3 tries to get to 27% and I got to the point where if I wanted to finish it on time before the library took it back I’d have to listen to 2 hours a day. I couldn’t face it ...more

The narrator is ok. This story was a fail for me because in the just over 8 hours of audio I felt like almost 50% was background info dump. Maybe ok for someone who decides to jump into a series on book 8, not so great for those of us who have been here from book 1. I also read over 100 books a year and my memory is shaky at best and I was still getting soooooo bored with all the repetition. I’m pretty sure I’ve complained about this in earlier books, but for every book there is more info dumping because there are more character ties and background to explain AGAIN, please find a way to make this more bearable. The other reason I may have found this more irritating than usual is the storyline was weak and not as well thought out as usual. Too many coincidences and ties to each other that were hard to find believable. Then we have what could have been an incredible epilogue, and one of the things I had been looking forward to, and the book ends before we get to be there ...more

But despI’ve tolerated a lot through this series just because I love Joe and Nate. Overwhelming misogyny, lack of feeling sometimes ridiculous plots. But despite it all I kept coming back, but this may have been the final nail in the coffin. Now he’s just lazy. I was all in when the book started and we had a man eater bear on the loose. Nature against man. I’m HERE for it. There’s a reason I’m #teamorca. But no…we can’t stick with what could have been a great trek through the wilderness, man against beast hunt. We have to bring back ridiculous villains, that enact a revenge plan that employed a device so stupid I can’t believe it got through the editor. Then he just starts killing everybody off. The most devastating of them was barely even addressed and if cops were called we never see that…or the aftermath of one of the villains being caught. He’s set it up so the next book will put us back to the beginning. I did not listen to 24 books to end up exactly where we started. If he’s run out of ideas, he should have just stopped writing. He didn’t even give the bear it’s due....more

I like Kerry so I knew I wanted to listen to the book and hear it through her voice, but I’m not sure that was the correct choice. I didn’t really love how the story was told with time jumps back and forth and I found it hard to keep track of where in the timeline of her life this happened in comparison to some other things she had just talked about….it was a lot. She was honest about some traumatic events that happened to her but was weirdly disassociated from the entire telling of her stories. Almost as though it was just another performance in a long line of them. Here’s my take on people living a life of “fame”. They owe us NOTHING when it comes to their personal lives. Just because we see them on a big screen or watch them weekly on a slightly smaller one, we don’t have the right to be all up in their love lives, their children’s life or whatever else they may want to keep private. BUT, if they choose to share via memoir or biography…make it real. Dig a little deeper or choose a different aspect to focus on. There was molestation, abortion and a major eating disorder, a miscarriage, on top of the family secret. All of them were skimmed over or talked about as though she was reading a therapists breakdown of the situation. By the end she seems to have reached a good place but I’m not sure how stable it is because I don’t really know how she got there. Is she REALLY ok or is this yet another role she has taken on to make people believe she’s ok? ...more

I’m also not super impressed with the narrator. It didn’t help I had just come off of one of the best narrations I’ve ever listened to, but his voice for the “bad guy” was the absolute worst. It was like nails on a chalkboard. ...more

This is my first TJ Klune book so I’m not sure what I expected but the audiobook was just over 15 hours and it took to the last 2 to get where we needed to be and then it was over. I understood how the world ended up the way it did…but where was Victor’s fear, horror and anger on finding out the things he did and where he stood in this world. I would come back if they decided to go exploring and looking for others, because Rambo and Nurse Ratchet are worth another listen and I’d like to know what exactly the Blue Fairy had planned but I’m not exactly hoping for another book either. ...more
