- Thoughts: It's pretty sad, I loved Hong Kong Phooey when I was a kid (I'm talking 2, 3 years old here) and I really think this darker side of him has a lot of potential, but it was a very careless job in this book. Starting by siding him with black lightning, it's like yelling to the workd: "we are doing this, but we really don't care" This incarnation of Perry got a lot of hidden baggage, it's like reading a random monthly comics you don't follow up, you get in in the middle of something and stay pretty much lost through it. He has so much potential, could easily be stabilized as a guy between Batman and Constantine. Then the 3 bad guys could not be more generic. And the story too was a generic cliché soda mix The second story is just a political arms-forbiding campaign. I live in Brazil, here weapons are forbidden, criminals rule our streets and honest citizens must hide inside their homes and hope no criminal invades. Any pressure and campaigns worldwide to banish weapons are started by mafia, and mafia fundings. People should see it better. ▶◀ These are my personal opinions, you may discord, my final rating of the book is not necessarily linked to this system and may diverge from it. A man may do good in every small way on every day, and yet be a part of great evil." - Thoughts: This reading feels as if an old teacher wanted to pass on all his lessons in a single big book. Everyone is up to teaching the main character something and that is what most of the book is about. His parents teach him lessons, then his master, then his master's son, then a stranger in a gallery, then his new teachers, then his friends, then his girlfriend, then his girlfriend's mother, then his girlfriend's grandmother, then his little sister, and so on and on. Then on the latter 10 chapters or so the Main Character grows some fangs and decide to do things by himself, but nevertheless there are still some lessons for him to learn. The imaging rules are mostly solid, unfortunately in this first book everything went in a very unepic and anticlimactic way. ▶◀ These are my personal opinions, you may discord, my final rating of the book is not necessarily linked to this system and may diverge from it. The biggest one is that Nate now has a clone that think exactly like himself, so he can be in two places at the sams time, in other words, Mordred don't have his own characterization, this is very notable at the beginning of the story and change a little at it's end, so I'll dare say that it looks like the author was doing a learning curve in working with two different first persons. But the fact remains that once noticed by the reader it feels lame. The other slip is that the book needs a little more editing, some things like "I grabbed some sturdy rope that I found on the street" should not happen. Also “Don’t talk. You’re pushing yourself too far,” I told him, and moved his hands and tunic to look at the wound, which still trickled blood. “How long have you been here?” looks more like a scene from Agent 86 and should be edited. On the plus side, there are a lot of characters on this book, almost everyone seen in all previous book make an appearance or are mentioned. The powers are all well delimited and we saw very little rulebreaking in the series, the use of the powers was smarter in the first books and more animewise in the later. The story will continue in A Glimmer of Hope so it's not really the end of the series. All that said, the most important thing is that I did enjoy reading the Hellequin Chronicles. ▶◀

In my opinion there had been 2 bad times reading it, on those times the heroes are "trapped" with in a place with a big open door inviting then out but the heroes are not smart enough to see said door, this kind of scenario happens in a lot of books and I always hate then. But when it was happening in this book and I was almost ready to give up, there had been a conclusion to it that left me with my jaw hanging wide open. The story also has a conclusion so it means not needing to wait for any sequel (even though Black House is already available) The atmosphere of the book is very interesting, with a sense of urgency and some well made suspense. The characters are, as expected from any Stephen King book, well developed and with a great growth during the story, even the bad guys. I had to look up for a lot of expressions because of the excessive use of American Pop (or underpop) Culture, but it is not anymore a real issue with google on hand these days. Just a little bit hard to believe one person could understand another at all when speaking. The world is interesting too, it uses some concepts explored in his The Dark Tower series, but Jack's Territories don't seen to be connected with Roland's in any way other than maybe existing in the same axle of universes.
