Quizás me recuerda a Tarantino, no por los diálogos extraños ni por los sucesos aleatorios ni las auto-referencias, sino por la amoralidad de los personajes; algo que hecho muchísimo de menos en el entretenimiento actual. (Prefiero que odien a mis personajes a que sean tópicos andantes).
El protagonista es un tipo atrapado por una maldición que básicamente lo convierte en el huesped temporal de espíritus vengativos que quieren ajustar cuentas pendientes con sus asesinos, pero no solo eso, también le proporcionan sus recuerdos y habilidades, las cuales se van almacenando en su cuerpo, transformándolo poco a poco en un superhéroe oscuro.
Se agradece también la variedad de trasfondos de los espíritus y sus motivaciones, y como el cómic aporta diversidad de personajes e incluso sexualidades, sin hacer como el 90% de DC y Marvel, o sea, sin forzar su política de identidades aunque no tenga ningún sentido y destroce la historia o el personaje. En tiempos donde casi nada se libra de un adoctrinamiento político de izquierdas que haría temblar a George Orwell, se agradecen productos como Dream Thief....more

¿Podría un villano desquiciado como el Joker ser "reeducado" y posteriormente reintegrado en la sociedad como un ciudadano completamente normal? Tan maravillosa premisa es el motor que mueve esta apasionante novela gráfica explícita en brutalidad y en una estilizada truculencia visual que haría las delicias de Hannibal Lecter.
Leí con avidez The New Deadwardians por muchas razones: me encantan las historias con un toque retro y el concepto me fascinó. No es la primera vez que se nos presenta una sociedad donde los vampiros están totalmente integrados en ella, de hecho, Deadwardians le debe mucho a Anno Dracula. No obstante, es una lectura muy disfrutable, el protagonista es deliciosamente británico en su forma de afrontar su condición de no-muerto (molesto porque no puede dormir), y se agradece su estructura narrativa trazada al estilo de la novela negra.
Es una lástima que sepa a poco, y dé la impresión de que estamos ante una especie de serie piloto, más que una serie completa. Es como si los autores esperasen tener el éxito suficiente como para continuar la saga.
Creo que The New Deadwardians no aprovechó ni la mitad de su potencial, así que le doy cuatro estrellas....more
