Sí y no. Los escritores de NO-FICCIÓN con NULA experiencia publicando en KDP lo encontrarán bastante útil, pues incluye un buen tutorial para principiantes, además de consejos para buscar claves, ordenar los capítulos, y demás. Si como yo, eres escritor de ficción y has publicado con KDP, la utilidad de este libro es prácticamente CERO, salvo por unos consejos sobre elegir categoría y poco más.
Me cae bien Ana Nieto, me parece una mujer encantadora con una voz bonita y agradable, y la ironía es que su podcast es 100 veces mejor que sus libros, con información que es útil para escritores de ficción y gratuita.
En el fondo, supongo que la culpa es mía por esperar que una escritora de no-ficción me diera la fórmula de la Coca-Cola de la ficción, es como esperar que un zapatero te explique cómo arreglar un televisor. No obstante, creo que el título es en cierto modo engañoso al hablar de una forma tan general, debería llamarse "Triunfa con tu libro de auto-ayuda y marketing".

Si no conoces a Junji Ito no sabes que es el terror asiático, no exagero si digo que hasta que no leí los mangas de este autor creía que no podían inquietarme los cómics. Olvídate de Creepy y otros loables intentos de aterrorizar a los lectores de cómics, Junji Ito es capaz de provocarte pesadillas en una sola viñeta, no en vano hablamos de un autor que ha sabido sintetizar de una forma magistral influencias occidentales -Lovecraft, David Cronenberg, e incluso Poe y King- con ese horror genuino japonés, de mujeres de largos cabellos, represión sexual, terror lento de atmósfera que cual Necronomicón va consumiendo tu cordura página tras página.
Pero entre todas sus obras, El Diario Gatuno, destaca por encima de ellas. ¿Por qué? Imagínate Stephen King escribiendo un episodio de Doraemon. Junji Ito nos sorprende más que nunca con una historia cotidiana, delirante, llena de humor y toques autobiográficos, donde se autoparodia narrando su emotiva vida personal y sus anécdotas como dueño de uno de los mejores amigos del hombre: el gato. ...more

Hacer una review de este "libro" (en verdad un guión de teatro escrito por encargo por dos negros y firmado por mi hada madrina favorita alias J.K. Rowling) es como querer tapar el agujero del casco de proa del Titanic con los dedos. Así que intentaré ser breve, bastante doloroso es para un potterhead como yo tener que pulverizar sin piedad una aberración que se atreve a autoproclamarse "secuela oficial" con el fin de llenarse los bolsillos a costa de nuestros buenos recuerdos de infancia.
El Legado Maldito es básicamente Regreso al Futuro 2 con varitas mágicas sumado a los peores clichés de fanfiction.net, es decir, personajes que actúan de forma incoherente (buenos que son villanos, villanos que son buenos, relaciones sentimentales absurdas, hijos ilegítimos, dramas risibles y lagunas argumentales oceánicas), repetición de escenas míticas de la saga y resurrecciones gratuitas que deslucen y destruyen su encanto original. He visto espectáculos mejores en un parque de atracciones comiéndome unas patatas fritas y bebiéndome una cola.
La única conclusión a la que puedo llegar es que realmente Voldemort jamás murió, este libro es el último horrocrux perdido, no hay otra explicación posible que justifique la existencia de este libro, a excepción tal vez, de la desesperación de una editorial por seguir explotando su gallina mágica de los huevos de oro y la triste pasividad de una autora que se limita a cobrar un cheque mientras ve marchitarse y morir un legado que en mi caso, es una de las razones por las que siempre he querido ser escritor. Este es el verdadero legado maldito. Y sí, soy un potterhead, pero no un airhead. Lo siento pero más de uno debería vacunarse contra la nostalgitis.
Crucemos los dedos esperando que la saga de Animales Fantásticos triunfe en taquilla y a nadie se le ocurra adaptar este homúnculo a la gran pantalla, o peor aún, convertirlo en una nueva franquicia....more

Tan maravillosa premisa es el motor que mueve esta apasionante novela gráfica explícita en brutalidad y en una estilizada truculencia visual que haría las delicias de Hannibal Lecter.
No es ningún secreto que me encanta el género de los superhéroes, los comic-books americanos digamos "alternativos" como los de Vertigo, Darkhorse, BoNo es ningún secreto que me encanta el género de los superhéroes, los comic-books americanos digamos "alternativos" como los de Vertigo, Darkhorse, Boom! o Image, y por ende cualquier historia de fantasía que incluya personajes con habilidades especiales. Es decir, soy el prototipo de lector para el que fue escrito Un Día Perfecto Para Elis, una curiosa mezcla de influencias tan dispares como el anime "para adultos", los mencionados comics underground, los videojuegos e incluso distingo ciertos visos del Sr. King, Gaiman y escritores similares.
A título positivo destaco pues que es mi género ideal, y me ha gustado que trate temas tan poco comunes como la pedofilia y lo haga con un enfoque en ocasiones tan humano, tan turbador. El libro contiene pasajes muy evocativos, nunca se hace pesado y promete lo que ofrece, no decepciona.
¿Críticas? Tengo poco por criticarle la verdad, creo que es una producción muy ambiciosa, lo único que realmente me echa para atrás y he detectado en el 90% de lo escritores indies españoles es que trabajan muy poco la ambientación cuando escriben historias que tienen lugar en países extranjeros. En ningún momento he tenido la sensación de que la novela transcurre en América, los personajes no hablan, ni piensan, ni actúan como yanquis, entiendo que es fantasía pero estos detalles ayudan mucho. No todos los escritores tenemos la suerte de Dan Brown que comete doscientos errores geográficos e históricos por novela y los lectores lo adoran...también coincido con Aitziber y opino que hubiera sido mucho mejor como película o anime.
PD: Por cierto, la novela vendería el triple con una portada más estilo anime o con Elis en ella. La portada actual es enigmática, pero ya se sabe que el YA se vende por los ojos....more

Tranquilo, pon un zombie en tu vida y seguro que alguien pagará por tu trabajo.
Podría ponerme unas gafas de pasta y decir lo de "yo era fan de los zombies cuando no era mainstream", pero el hecho es que estos últimos diez años de asedio constante mediático de muertos vivientes me ha hartado, y siento un fuerte rechazo hacia un género que cuando era niño siempre me había aterrorizado.
No obstante, Guerra Mundial Z y The Walking Dead, son dos más que notables excepciones en un mar de absoluta mediocridad no-muerta. Max Brooks nos hipnotiza con una obra monumental que destila algo que jamás lograron sus cientos de imitadores: originalidad, frescura. Parte documental, parte relato de terror neoralista, Guerra Mundial Z reimagina una guerra mundial que pone en duda la supervivencia de la raza humana, una épica aventura coral protagonizada por personas anónimas, gente corriente con sus defectos, sus traumas y sus virtudes.
Releyendo la novela, a uno le da la impresión de que la lucha contra lo que representan los muertos vivientes -fascismo, perdida de la identidad, pandemias, fanatismo- es más actual que nunca.
PD: Como cinéfilo no puedo evitar añadir que la versión cinematográfica es abismal, simplemente patética como adaptación y como película de terror....more

Por una parte, evita caer en muchos tópicos del YA moderno: no hallaremos bellísimas chicas atrapadas en triángulos amorosos, ni héroes atormentados imposiblemente atractivos, ni esas relaciones abusivas que muchas adolescentes de hoy en día confunden con "amor de verdad". Al contrario, Kelvalad es una aventura que no se avergüenza a la hora de rescatar tópicos mil veces utilizados por maestros como Tolkien o C.S. Lewis, añadiéndole un toque personal de humor autoparódico, sin el cual la obra caería en el abismo de la fan fiction glorificada. Es decir, el hogar del Sr. Paolini.
Kelvalad más que una novela convencional de Dragones & Mazmorras, es esa clase de historias que nos inventábamos de niños en el recreo, cuando soñábamos en matar dragones, en que éramos los elegidos por la espada Excalibur, y rescatábamos princesas de las garras de algún malvado hechicero (o príncipes, no seamos machistas).
Tal vez el libro se merecería un 3.5, pero no importa, porque yo, al igual que Noa, era uno de esos niños que soñaba despierto...more

No es la primera vez que se nos presenta una sociedad donde los vampiros están totalmente integrados en ella, de hecho, Deadwardians le debe mucho a Anno Dracula. No obstante, es una lectura muy disfrutable, el protagonista es deliciosamente británico en su forma de afrontar su condición de no-muerto (molesto porque no puede dormir), y se agradece su estructura narrativa trazada al estilo de la novela negra.
Es una lástima que sepa a poco, y dé la impresión de que estamos ante una especie de serie piloto, más que una serie completa. Es como si los autores esperasen tener el éxito suficiente como para continuar la saga.

Pero hay algo que incluso sus mayores detractores no pueden negarle: es un tipo con ideas jodidamente brillantes.
Solo por el mero concepto de tomar un libro clásico y cometer la "blasfemia" de reescribirlo en tono de comedia, convirtiendo la deliciosa novela clásica de Austen en una Buffy de la Regencia ya se ha ganado, a mi entender, por lo menos tres estrellas.
Orgullo y Prejuicio y Zombis es una gamberrada épica, un producto de consumo rápido que se olvida a los pocos días de su lectura, el cual ha sido muy muy muy lucrativo para sus bolsillos. Francamente, me produce envidia sana, y hace que me formule la famosa pregunta de "¿Por qué no se me ocurrió antes a mí?"
Puedes odiarlo o amarlo, pero es obvio que cualquier obra capaz de crear escuela merece ciertas alabanzas. A fin de cuentas, gracias a Grahame-Smith tenemos un sub-género que ha plagado Amazon de obras tan delirantes como Androide Karenina, La Miaumorfosis de Kafka o Sentido Sensibilidad y Monstruos Marinos.
¿La parte negativa? Apuesto a que le llevó poco más de dos o tres semanas "escribir" el libro, o lo que es lo mismo, cambiar palabras y pegar párrafos aquí y allá. No se puede considerar un libro "real", pues depende demasiado de la novela original.
De todas formas, creo que la industria de la literatura necesita que la trolleen de vez en cuando, es demasiado seria....more

Lo que más me impactó de la novela de Suzuki es lo distinta que resulta en comparación a la película, es menos terrorífica y visceral, pero presenta personajes más adultos y complejos, refleja muy bien la hermética -me atrevería a decir que demencial también- sociedad japonesa, amén de incorporar una ambigüedad moral inexistente en los films.
Luego le siguieron las novelas de Murakami, el descubrimiento algo tardío de Mishima, y una pasión por la literatura asiática que aumenta cada año....more
