I was expecting more of a biography than what we got. It’s still fine, but I really am not all that interested in Southern entertaining so most of her info and tips don’t resonate with me. I love that Reese Witherspoon narrated this book herself. She has a great voice and narrated this flawlessly. This is a quick listen at 2 hours and 50 minutes. I really liked that the recipes she talked about were provided in a pdf and she said check out the pdf for xyz rather than forcing us to listen to the ingredients and the instructions for everything. ...more

I was firstBeing Henry: The Fonz and Beyond is Henry Winkler’s memoir. I have always loved Henry Winkler so reading/listening to his book was a must. I was first introduced to Henry Winkler as the Fonz on Happy Days when I was a child and was watching old reruns of the show. He was my favorite character on Happy Days. I saw him and enjoyed him in other things too, but my next favorite would have to be the Christmas movie, The Most Wonderful Time of the Year, that plays on the Hallmark channel. I bought it and watch it every year.
I love that he narrates the book himself. It is cool to hear his words in his own voice. I also really like that Henry’s wife, Stacey, narrated parts of this book from her perspective as well. There were a lot of things that surprised me and I learned quite a few things about Henry’s life that I had no idea about previously. Things like his parents coming from Germany to escape nazis, his late in life diagnosed dyslexia, school difficulties, and his difficult home life. It is really cool how he wrote so many books for children with an overall theme of the underdog becoming successful and persevering. There was a big focus on Henry and his insecurities and it times it seemed to overwhelm the rest of the subject matter but it is Henry’s story and his reality so I can’t really complain about it. Henry is a gem and selfishly, I hope we have the opportunity to see a lot more of him in the future. ...more

Hearing his voice made me sad at first, knowing that he is no longer alive, but I kept with it and he sucked me into his stories. I loved this book. I would be inclined to give it 5 stars just because it is Leslie Jordan, but regardless, the book itself was 5 star worthy. The stories were great. Leslie is very entertaining and captivating. Some of the things he spoke of made parts of it similar to a self help book, and I mean that in the very best way. He said some things that really hit home and were really helpful. He had a great perspective on things. I wish Leslie would have had an opportunity to do a book solely on lessons he learned and the paths he took forward because he had a wonderful way of speaking. He was able to balance deep with light and serious with funny. What a gem he was. How fitting that his final chapter was titled, “Until We Meet Again.” Rest easy, Leslie. ...more
The Fifteenth Minute is book 5 in the Ivy Years series, but this book is completely standalone. This is the only book I have read from this series so The Fifteenth Minute is book 5 in the Ivy Years series, but this book is completely standalone. This is the only book I have read from this series so far. This book is a new adult, college romance with an actress and an athlete/DJ. The book is written in dual POV for the two main characters, Leanne and Daniel/DJ. Leanne is 19, a freshman, and a famous actress. Daniel is 20, a sophomore, and he does the DJ-ing for the hockey games. The book is set in Connecticut. For some reason, there is a ton of emphasis put on how short Leanne is. I seriously spent a good part of the book thinking she had dwarfism or was only like 4 and a half feet tall or something. It eventually comes out that she is 5’1”. I mean, sure, that is short but not THAT short. How silly. Stop reading right now unless you are okay with some minor spoilers. I feel like given the number of reviews that address it, it really isn’t all that spoiler-y, but since it isn’t included in the blurb, it may be considered too spoiler-y for some. So, last chance to stop reading…. This book addresses some serious issues surrounding grape/date grape. Daniel is falsely accused of grape from a girl who he had consensual sex with. He spends the majority of the book abiding by strict rules the college has imposed upon him until his case is decided by the administration, wondering what his fate will be, if he will be kicked out of school, who will believe him, and just completely stressed out. To top it off, he has a real connection with Leanne and doesn’t know how to move forward with her with everything hanging over his head. He didn’t even tell Leanne about the allegations until 60% in. I thought it was complete BS that once the truth came out, the accuser was allowed to stay in school and didn’t face repercussions. I don’t care what circumstances led to her making those claims. I empathize completely with her situation, but that doesn’t give her the right to ruin someone else’s life. That aside, I really enjoyed this book. The narration was really good. Both narrators were great. This book was included free in the audible plus catalog. 4 stars, overall. ...more
