It’s pretty rare for me; I usually wish I could spend more time with the characters and what they are going through… novellas always feel too short. While I definitely could’ve spent a lot more time with these two in general, the story itself was perfectly suited for this length. Totally adored it, and I’m not surprised at all given who wrote it....more

I wasn’t initially interested in the premise but I kept seeing people talk about it, so I decided to give it a shot. It totally hooked me. It started out as a silly goofy time and I was trying to stop laughing when my husband was sleeping next to me. It got a lot more sweet and emotional as the book carried on, which made it so well-rounded and enjoyable! The characters were charming and unique and I’m so glad this one turned around my reading mojo lol. ...more

I was on the fence about reading it and hadn’t even marked it as “to read” on Goodreads when I bought it on a whim at the store and started it within the week. I don’t follow serial killer true crime stories or podcasts because the victims aren’t at the forefront so my only knowledge of the man “featured” in this book was the Zac Efron movie (watched only because of said actor). This reads like a true crime story but it’s largely fiction based on real events. I loved that the author didn’t even name the dude, and that this book showed how he truly was instead of how the media perceived him. I loved the women centered in this story and was pretty gripped the whole time… despite there not really being mystery or thriller elements. Like I said, it reads like true crime, but historical fiction at the same time. It left me feeling simultaneously hopeful and unsettled....more

I absolutely love her writing. It’s a testament to how much I want to read her books that I read a story involving fresh grief and fresh divorce - two things I tend to avoid. Her skateboarding terminology could have been better but I will always love a skater boy love interest for obvious reasons. I also enjoyed that the synopsis gave nothing away - I recommend going in blind and seeing what kind of summer romance it turns out to be. ...more

I’ve enjoyed Morrill’s young adult books and was so quick to request this from NetGalley when I saw she wrote an adult contemporary romance. The main character was occasionally frustrating but I have to say, the lack of drama and miscommunication in this one (especially in a few key areas near the end) was just perfect. There were a few repetitive sentences but they’re the type of thing that I think probably got cleaned up before the finished copy. I really hope she continues writing more books for adult readers! There’s the same charm and banter as her YA books so if you’re a fan of hers in general, I would recommend checking this one out as long as you don’t mind some spice!...more

It’s not really addicting in a traditional way but I always wanted to know what was going to happen next. I loved Marcellus… and all of the human characters. A few scenes made me tear up at the end (one in particular, naturally from Marcellus’s POV). Really glad I read this (thanks, hype!) since it’s kind of out of my comfort zone. It’s very slow-burn but I found it super easy and quick to read. It’s literally like if there was a murder during GBBO - still cozy, group of nice bakers (who really aren’t all that nice) vibes… but a touch of a murder in the background lol. The more I think about this, the more I like and appreciate the work the author put into the characters and pacing. There’s an unsettling feeling while reading with some light mysterious elements but this is not a twisty book by any stretch.
